This study investigated how women show prejudice and stereotyping implicitly toward female subgroups. We examined the effects of primed and chronic self-representations on implicit prejudice and implicit stereotyping. We predicted that when self-representation as a traditional woman was more dominant compared to self-representation as a nontraditional woman, participants would regard housewives as more favorable than career women, and would regard the targets as stereotypic. Female participants, who had completed the Scale of Egalitarian Sex Role Attitude (SESRA), were asked to picture the future themselves as a career woman or a housewife. Then they engaged in two types of IAT to measure prejudiced responses and stereotypic responses toward female subgroups. We found that participants who were primed with their self-representations as a traditional woman enhanced implicit stereotypic responses toward female subgroups compared to those who were primed with self-representations as a nontraditional woman. We also found that traditionalists (i.e., those with low evaluations in SESRA) implicitly evaluated housewives more favorably than career women and than egalitarians (i.e., those with high evaluations in SESRA). These results suggested that prejudiced responses and stereotypic responses are independent.

THALES is a computer code system for the thermal-hydraulic analysis of the core meltdown accident which is the risk-dominant accident of LWR's. Its first version was developed for the PWR analysis, which uses THALES-P for primary system thermal-hydraulics, THALES-M for core heatup and meltdown, and THALES-CV for containment temperature and pressure response. Several program libraries were also developed not only for THALES but for general usage.A new analysis technique of hydraulics in the primary cooling system was developed and used in THALES-P with aiming at accurate estimation of water level in water-steam mixture and shorter computer time, which are necessary for the core meltdown analysis.This report describes the outlines of the THALES code system, as well as the mathematical modeling and sample run results of the above-mentioned codes. Further are discussed the importance of the mixture levels and the necessity of the core slumping models.

As a part of the preparation of the database of calculated results on severe accident sequences for emergency preparedness at nuclear power plants, steam generator tube rupture initiated severe accident sequences at a reference two-loop PWR plant have been analyzed using the THALES/ART computer code. Estimation were made of the times of key events such as core uncovery, core melt and reactor vessel melt-through, and an amount of fission products released to the environment. The effects of recovery action on core integrity and the amount of environmental fission products released were studied with regard to the discussion on mitigation of or recovery from the accident by the feed and/or bleed operation in the primary and/or the secondary system. The analysis showed that (1) the ECCS has adequate capability of maintaining core integrity, and (2) the bleed operation in the primary system is effective to suppress the environmental fission products released even if the ECCS did not function.

Rhinochimaera pacifica previously known only from Japan and Peru is reported and described from 23 New Zealand specimens taken on the Chatham Rise, Challenger Plateau and east of Stewart Island in depths of 750-1110 m. Comparison with R.atlantica, the other nominal species, shows that R.pacifica differs only in its higher number of denticulations on the upper caudal margin of males (34-69 in New Zealand and Japanese specimens, 25-30 in R.atlantica).

An experiment to break or weaken rocks by micro wave was performed. The output power of the micro wave has 20-80kW with 915MHz, which was applied in order to generate thermal stress in some kinds of rocks and concrete owing to temperature increase in the rocks according to the principle of “Dielectric Heating”en, the followings were obtained within this experiment.1) The temperature increase is approximately in proportion to the output power.2) The temperature increase is approximately in inverse proportion to the distance between aperture face of electric/magnetic horn and rock surface.3) The temperature increase becomes higher as aperture area of micro wave horn is smaller in constant output power.4) Main factor to crush the rock specimen by heating is to generate the thermal stress by rock heating.5) The rock with hither water content tends to have higher temperature increase in same rock tvne.6) The penetration depth of applied micro wave depends on dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the material.

公立図書館における「選書ツアー」についての論争は数年に渡って続き,現在もなお論議の対象となっている。しかし,肝心の詳しい実態は報告されず,図書館現場にどのような影響があったのか,どう役立ったのかという,実証的な分析や報告はなされていないし,実施自体も広がっていない。本稿では実態を置き去りにして論議ばかりが過熱してきた「選書ツアー」をもう一度実務として実証的に検証することにより,実際の選書について,そして「選書論議」のあり方について考えてみる。

本研究では、インゲンマメの葉がカンザワハダニによる食害を受けると、そのフォトン放射強度が増加することが明らかになった。その放射強度は経日的に増加し、ハダニが最もよく集まる葉脈付近で強い発光を示した。食害を受けた葉からの発光は、二つの異なったプロセスから成り立っており、おのおの傷害直後に起こる一過性の反応による発光過程と、食害によって誘導された防衛反応に起因する発光過程と考えられた。また、その放射スペクトルから、長波長(500-700nm)側では食害に伴う物理的損傷に対するストレス反応に起因し、一重項酸素の2光子過程(580、634nm)が関与していると推測された。一方、短波長域(300-400nm)の発光は傷害応答とともに食害ストレスに応答した防御物質生産等の防衛反応に起因すると考えられた。以上のように、食害応答と放射フォトンの強度変化との関連が示されたことから、フォトン計測が生体防衛機構の新たな先端計測手段として利用できる可能性が示された。特に、今回注目したフォトン計測は特別な手法を必要とせず、高感度かつリアルタイムで試料の測定が行えるので、広範な応用が可能である。

日本のマンガの持つ内容の広さ、豊かさ、洗練性および画像表現の自由度は、読む者のボディイメージに強い影響を与える可能性がある。マンガにおける若年女性の体形の描かれ方に関して、ジャンル別(男性向け一女性向け、成人向け-子供向け)の体形の特徴、物語上の役割や人物の性格が体形に及ぼす影響、作者の性別と作品のジャンルの関係について検討した。描かれた身体像は、現代日本の若年女性の標準体形と比較して、若年女子短期大学生らの視点から評価した。男性向けのマンガではやや細いウェストと大きなヒップを持った若年女性が描かれているのに対して、女性向けのマンガではウェスト・ヒップ共に細い若年女性が描かれていた。作品中の若年女性の役割や性格と体形の関係では、女性誌において女性性や母性がいずれも細い身体像と結びつき、また依存性が太いウェストと結びついていた。男性向けのマンガを男性が画いている一方、女性向けのマンガは女性が画いていた。これらの結果から、マンガにおいては非現実的な「やせ理想像」が、女性読者を対象として、女性マンガ家により作られていることが示された。

The purpose of the present study was to compare the perceived risk of crimes between the lay public and experts. A hypothesis of the lay public's risk perception was deduced using the weight function of prospect theory. It was expected that the lay public would overestimate the number of personal injury crimes, which are statistically low, and underestimate the number of property crimes, which are statistically higher. Experts, on the other hand, were expected to correctly estimate the number of crimes in each category. One hundred and sixty undergraduate students and 259 police officers estimated an average annual number for each of 18 crimes. The results supported the hypothesis, revealing that the public overestimated the number of personal injury crimes, which rarely occur, and underestimated the number of property crimes, which occur frequently. Implications of these results for experts and how they communicate with the lay public regarding crime prevention were discussed.
