Upon single treatment against Staphylococus aureus, quercetin–pivaloxymethyl conjugate (Q-POM) had antibacterial activities with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 16–32 mg/L. Q-POM showed MIC of 32 mg/L against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faceium (VRE), which is remarkably lower than other antibiotics investigated (≥256 mg/L). Under sub-MIC concentrations, Q-POM potentiated the activity of ampicillin, cefepime, and vancomycin against S. aureus and Enterococcus (including highly resistant strains such as hetero-resistant vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (hVISA), vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA), and VRE), by decreasing the MICs of these antibiotics by 4–128 folds. Q-POM was found to be partially synergistic with ampicillin and cefepime against S. aureus and Enterococcus, while it was strongly synergistic with vancomycin. Q-POM at 5 mg/L inhibited the formation of biofilms of S. aureus by 24–83% and VRE by 70%. Additionally, Q-POM inhibited the hemolytic activity of S. aureus in a dose-dependent manner. Cytotoxic activity was evaluated in human liver epithelial cells (HepG2), and the 50% cytotoxicity concentration (CC50) value of Q-POM was higher than 50 mg/L. These results indicate the potential use of Q-POM in treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and VRE infections.

Recently a proposal and some implementations about citizenship education have been tried in Japan with response to the UK. They are the report of citizenship education by a research group sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the attached Ikeda Junior High School of Osaka University of Education, primary and Junior high schools governed by the local authority of Shinagawa-Ku, Tokyo, and the attached primary school of Ochanomizu University. This research analyses those implementations and curricula from the perspective of subject education and research, and indicates some viewpoints on citizenship education in schools. The contents of this research consist of four parts: (1) examining citizenship at the national level and competency of citizens in contemporary society, (2) analyzing implementations and curricula at the attached Ikeda Junior High School, the local authority of Shinagawa-Ku and the attached primary school of Ochanomizu, (3) indicating some viewpoints on citizenship education in Japan compared with the UK, (4) proposing citizenship studies as comprehensive social studies in schools.論文 (Article)

化粧に関する心理学的研究は,1980年代から盛んになってきた.化粧は慈しむ化粧(スキンケア)と飾る化粧(メーキャップ・フレグランス)に大別されるが,感情に及ぼす影響に関する研究は,そのいずれもが高揚と鎮静をめぐるものであった. 喩えるなら,メーキャップによって心を固く結んで「公」の顔をつくって社会に飛び出し,帰宅後にはメーキャップを落とし,スキンケアをすることで心の結び目を解いて「私」の顔に戻るのである.すなわち,化粧は日常生活に組み込まれた感情調節装置である.

Adsorption onto cotton and polyester fibers of two kinds of polyvinyl alcohols (PVA) having different amount of residual acetyl group is investigated. PVA-iodine complex method is applied for the determination of PVA concentration. The shapes of adsorption isotherms for these two PVA's at 40°C are clearly different. The amount of adsorbed PVA-I, having no residual acetyl group, is saturated once at lower concentration level and then increases linearly with the concentration in solution. While, that of PVA-II, having 20mol% of residual acetyl group, is saturated at certain low concentration without further increase. The adsorption behavior depends on the amount of residual acetyl group of PVA but not on the kind of fibers.Equilibrium adsorption constant k and the amount of saturated adsorption x∞ calculated from these adsorption data, as well as specific surface area obtained from N2-adsorption data in B. E. T. method, were discussed to elucidate the polymer adsorption mechanism.

論文×評定者×観点という3相の論文評定データに, 多相Raschモデルと分散分析モデルを適用し, データの整合性の視点から問題となる特異な評定値の検出結果に関して両モデルを比較検討した。データとしては, 教育心理学の卒業論文の要旨25編を, 大学院生10人が5つの観点について5段階評定したものを用いた。特異な評定値の検出には, いずれのモデルにおいても, 実際の評定値とモデルから期待される評定値との残差が用いられる。得られた結果から, 評定値の特異性のタイプによってモデル間で検出精度にやや違いがみられるものの, 両モデルの残差は非常に高い相関を示し, 両者の性質はほぼ同じものであることがわかった。この類似性は, モデルの適合度を様々に変化させた人工データでも確認された。論文を含む交互作用を考えない多相Raschモデルとの比較のため, 分散分析モデルについては主効果モデルが用いられたが, 実際のデータにおいて論文×評定者の交互作用を調べたところ, 無視できないほど大きな交互作用があることがわかった。そこで, 論文×評定者の交互作用を含む分散分析モデルによって特異な評定値の検出を試みたところ, 主効果モデルでは複数の交互作用が相殺されたために検出できなかった特異な評定値を一部検出することができた。このように分析目的に応じて柔軟に交互作用をモデルに組み込めることや, 分析に必要なデータの大きさ, さらにソフトウェアの利用し易さなど, いくつかの点で分散分析モデルの方が多相Raschモデルより実用的に優れていると判断された。
