Sperm are modified substantially in passing through both the male and the female reproductive tracts, only thereafter becoming functionally competent to fertilize eggs. Drosophila sperm become motile in the seminal vesicle; after ejaculation, they interact with seminal fluid proteins and undergo biochemical changes on their surface while they are stored in the female sperm storage organs. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these maturation processes remain largely unknown. Here, we focused on Drosophila Neprilysin genes, which are the fly orthologs of the mouse Membrane metallo-endopeptidase-like 1 (Mmel1) gene. While Mmel1 knockout male mice have reduced fertility without abnormality in either testis morphology or sperm motility, there are inconsistent results regarding the association of any Neprilysin gene with male fertility in Drosophila. We examined the association of the Nep1–5 genes with male fertility by RNAi and found that Nep4 gene function is specifically required in germline cells. To investigate this in more detail, we induced mutations in the Nep4 gene by the CRISPR/Cas9 system and isolated two mutants, both of which were viable and female fertile, but male sterile. The mutant males had normal-looking testes and sperm; during copulation, sperm were transferred to females and stored in the seminal receptacle and paired spermathecae. However, following sperm transfer and storage, three defects were observed for Nep4 mutant sperm. First, sperm were quickly discarded by the females; second, the proportion of eggs fertilized was significantly lower for mutant sperm than for control sperm; and third, most eggs laid did not initiate development after sperm entry. Taking these observations together, we conclude that the Nep4 gene is essential for sperm function following sperm transfer to females.

ディープラーニングは、人工知能(AI)の用語である。AI は近年、人間が物事を深く理解する過程を模したディープラーニングを取り入れ、飛躍的に進化した。本考察はこの機械による学習法を、「戦後最大の教育改革」と言われる、平成29年改訂の新学習指導要領が掲げた「深い学び」と対比させた。そして、これからの図画工作・美術科における教科性について改めて検討した。その結果、今後、益々バーチャルな世界が浸透する中で、子供たちが手や体全体を生かして、触覚を働かせ、イメージに合わせてつくったり考えたりする直接的な造形行為の重要性が、さらに増していることを指摘した。また、材料や用具を使って造形空間をつくったり味わったりなどしながら、身体感覚を通してリアリティを直に感じ取るという本教科の特性と、その重要性について新たに主張した。

本研究ではフィギュアスケートの動画からステップシークエンスのエレメントの自動判別に取り組む.フィギュアスケートにおいて,全ての演技の採点は一つ一つのエレメントの判定と出来栄えの評価によって構成されており,審判の目視によってすべて行われている.しかし,エレメントの判定と評価を同時に行うことは審判にとって負担となっている.そこでエレメントの判別を自動で行うことで審判の負担が軽減し,審判は出来栄えの判定に注力できる.本研究ではエレメントの判別を動画の分類問題として定式化し取り組む.そのためにデータセットを作成する必要があるが,フィギュアスケートの特性上,望ましくない性質をもってしまう.そこで、この性質を扱う手法を適用した畳み込みニューラルネットワークを用い,エレメント認識を行う.実験では,フィギュアスケートデータセットにおける手法の有効性を検証し,その結果を報告する.

システム化保全計画の概念と理論に基づく生物多様性の空間情報の分析は、保全の利害関係者に様々な選択肢を提供し、保全政策の立案・実行における意思決定を支援する。本論では、日本の生物多様性保全研究を推進する一助として、システム化保全計画を概説した。保護区ネットワーク設計の基本概念は“CARの原則”である:包括性(comprehensiveness)、充足性(adequacy)、代表性(representativeness)。全ての地域を保護区にするのは不可能なので、現実の保全計画では、生物多様性のサンプル(抽出標本)を保護区として保全する。CARの原則は、母集団の生物多様性のパターンとプロセスを、抽出標本内で再現するための概念である。システム化保全計画では、生物分布データを利用して保全目標を定義し、保全に関わる社会経済的コスト(土地面積や保全に伴って生じる社会経済的負担)を考慮し、保全優先地域を順位付けする。この分析は、地域間(保全計画のユニット間)の生物多様性パターンの相補性の概念に基づいている。かけがえのなさ(代替不可能度、irreplaceability)は、保全目標の効率的達成における、ある場所や地域の重要度を表す指標概念である。保全優先地域を特定する場合、保全上の緊急性や必要性を組み込む必要があり、代替不可能度と脅威と脆弱性の概念を組み合わせるアプローチがある。これにより、各サイトは、プロアクテイブな事前対策的保全地域とリアクテイブな緊急性の高い保全地域に識別される。保全計画では、様々な保全目標を保全利益に照らして検討することが重要である。Zonationが実装している効用関数は、メタ個体群や種数—面積関係の概念に基づいて空間的な保全優先地域の順位付けを可能にしており、有望である。システム化保全計画の課題の一つは、生物多様性パターンを静的に仮定している点である。生物多様性を永続的に保全するため、マクロ生態学的パターンおよび種分化、分散、絶滅、種の集合プロセスを保護区ネットワーク内部で捕捉するスキームを検討すべきだろう。システム化保全計画は生物多様性条約の学術的基盤で、愛知ターゲット等の保全目標を達成する不可欠な分析枠組みである。今後、日本でも実務的な保全研究の展開が期待される。

研究ノート Source Materials and Remarksベトナムは歴史的には漢字文化圏に属し、豊富な漢語由来語彙を持つが、現在は漢字表記を行わず、表音文字のアルファベットで表記している。筆者は、ベトナム語母語話者が、漢語由来語彙である漢越語と固有語である純ベトナム語をどのように区別するのかについて調査した。その結果、使用頻度の高い純ベトナム語が含まれている複合語や、ベトナム語の統語構造でも理解できる漢越語、ベトナム語の統語構造に合わせて語順が入れ替わった漢越語については、純ベトナム語と判断する傾向が見られた。また、日本語や中国語学習を通して漢字を十分に習得している話者については、日本語や中国語で対応する漢字語の知識を用いて判断している可能性も指摘した。As Vietnamese belongs to the Hanzi cultural sphere historically, it has a great number of Sino-Vietnamese words, but as of present, Vietnamese writing system is based on alphabets. The author investigated the ability of Vietnamese speakers to distinguish between Sino-Vietnamese and Vietnamese native words. The results are as follows: the compound words which include a Vietnamese native word of high frequency, the Sino-Vietnamese words compatible with Vietnamese syntactic construction, and the Sino-Vietnamese words whose constituent order is changed to Vietnamese syntactic construction are liable to be considered as Vietnamese native words. Furthermore, the Vietnamese speakers who have obtained enough knowledge of Hanzi (Chinese characters) through the study of Japanese or Chinese are likely to identify the origin of Vietnamese words more correctly than those without such knowledge.

2006年、オリオン座流星群の突発出現が観測された。この出現はZHRで50を超え、また極大がおよそ4日間に渡った。母天体である1P/Halley(ハレー彗星)からのダスト・トレイルを計算したところ、-1265年、-1197年、-910年のトレイルが起因していることが判明した。また、これらのダストは、木星と6:1の平均運動共鳴にあることがわかった。

漢方薬は様々なタイプに分類されるが,補中益気湯(ほちゅうえっきとう)や人参養栄湯(にんじんようえいとう)のような補益剤(ほえきざい)は,西洋薬には同種のものが存在しない,その一つの分類である.補益剤は貧血,食欲不振,疲労倦怠,慢性疾患による体力低下などを伴う患者に使用されている.補益剤は免疫薬理作用を有していて,種々の病態改善作用の主要なメカニズムと考えられている.制がん剤投与や放射線照射したマウスにおいて,補中益気湯や人参養栄湯は,造血幹細胞の増殖を促進して,白血球減少症を回復させる.人参養栄湯は血小板や赤血球系前駆細胞の回復も促進する.一方,補中益気湯は腸管上皮間リンパ球からのインターフェロン&gamma;産生によりマクロファージを活性化して細菌感染からマウスを守る.また,ヘルパーT細胞タイプ2を誘導する免疫をしたマウスの抗原特異的イムノグロブリンEやインターロイキン4産生を抑制する.この効果がアトピー性皮膚炎治療の有効性の根拠になっている.人参養栄湯は自己免疫異常の調節効果で自己免疫マウスを著しく生存延長する.その他,補中益気湯ではストレス負荷や幼若マウスでの感染抵抗性低下の改善作用,人参養栄湯の肝線維化や間質性肺炎の改善作用なども示されている.以上の様に補益剤は免疫のアンバランスにより感染,アレルギー,自己免疫などになり易い状態を修正する効果がある.<br>

This essay is a survey of cultural representations of the 1984-85 British Minersʼ Strike at the time of the 30th anniversary in 2014. This historical event provides useful documentary and fictional material for various kinds of representations and performances, ranging from a dramatic analysis of the industrial dispute to a dance theatre about mining labour. The twenty-first century representations of the Minersʼ Strike not only continue to prove its historical importance in contemporary British culture and politics but also offer new ways of fostering a sense of “solidarity” among people.

We analyzed the genotypes of three pregnant females and their litters to investigate the phenomenon of multiple paternity in wild raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) using 17 microsatellite markers. If a female has mated with only one male during estrus, then the maximum number of paternal alleles will not exceed two among littermates with the same father. The results revealed two out of three litters had three or four paternal alleles at one or five microsatellite loci. Therefore, the female had mated with more than one male during estrus. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first to report the possibility of multiple paternity in wild raccoon dogs.

The old civilization is a typical example of the sustainable society, which may provide us with much information on it. Machu Picchu, one of the towns in Inca, was surveyed in 1999 and 2000 on the system of water supply and drainage to investigate sustainable systems which it might own.Machu Picchu had two springs for water resources. Water distribution was done with open channels made by stone. Water distributed to the town was utilized at a series of 16 fountains in cascade use and probably in time sharing. The first to the third fountains would be for ritual and others for drinking and irrigation. Machu Picchu had neither drainage nor wastewater treatment systems. The population in Machu Picchu was estimated around 2400 from the water supply capacity. The society of Machu Picchu was under severe restriction on water supply, and not safe on drinking water.

Sojin Kamiyama, one of the key figures in the creation of the modern Japanese theatre, was a friend of Junichiro Tanizaki throughout his lifetime. He is also known as one of the few Japanese actors who performed in Hollywood silent films in the 1920s. However, his life has not been sufficiently studied ; his fellowship with Junichiro Tanizaki has not been fully investigated either. This paper presents his personal history based on various data, information and interviews with members of his family.
