The successful Layer-by-Layer assembly formation using a polyanion and trivalent ion, such as Fe3+, on the surfaces of the nanopores in an anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane with a pore diameter of 35 nm is demonstrated.

It is said that lines could be still made with silk as used to be done in Japan as a countermeasure against pollution by nylon fishing lines. However, it is not clear whether or not silk fishing lines would be decomposed biologically in marine environments. To answer this question, seawater was collected at six stations at the entrance of Tokyo Bay and sterile raw silk threads (27-denier) were added to these seawaters. The final concentrations of raw silk threads in the seawaters were 0.5%. The six seawaters with raw silk threads [silk-decomposing seawater media (SDS media)] were incubated for 2 months at 20°C. The tensile strengths of the raw silk threads in the three SDS media were clearly decreased at least after 2-month incubation. The degree of decomposition of the raw silk threads, which were observed visually, correlated approximately with the ammonia contents of the SDS media. When the incubated raw silk threads were examined microscopically, it was shown that the raw silk threads were split into more and finer filaments after 1-and 2-month incubation. These results suggest the possibility of decomposition of raw silk threads in marine environments.

In this paper, we propose a behavior generation model for entertainment robot whose behavior seems to be living. Oneproblem of common entertainment robots is hard to generate various behaviors, because behaviors of the robots are generally madeby simple rule-based algorithms. The problem causes that the simplicity of the movement of the robot lets a user get tired soon. Inthis paper, we propose a behavior generation model based on principles of respondent conditioning and operant conditioning inbehavior analysis. The model has desire parameters and neural network for choosing a behavior. The desire parameters usually riseslowly and decrease by a specific behavior. Because the neural network learns the behavior decreasing more desire parameters, themodel can select spontaneously behavior. The result of behavior generation simulation shows the model has the feature of theirconditionings.

Two-dimensional grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (2D-GIXD) is one of the powerful methods to analyze crystal growth and structure of organic thin films. In this report, we show some experimental examples of 2D-GIXD measurements on organic semiconductor thin-films performed at SPring-8. First, polymorphic transformation of pentacene depending on film thickness observed by means of in-situ real-time 2D-GIXD is shown. Secondly, real-time observation of change in structure during thin-film growth of oligothiophenes by means of 2D-GIXD is shown. Finally, a result of crystal structure analysis from 2D-GIXD data of polycrystalline an oligothiophene thin film is reported.

Severe hypomagnesemia is a serious clinical condition. Proton pump inhibitor (PPI) induced hypomagnesemia has been recognized since 2006. In March 2011 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration advised that long-term use of PPI can induce hypomagnesemia. We report the first Japanese case of hypomagnesemia associated with chronic use of PPIs in a 64-year-old man hospitalized for nausea, bilateral ankle arthritis, and tremor of the extremities who had convulsions 3 days after admission. Blood analysis showed severe hypomagnesemia. He had been taking rabeprazole (10 mg/day) for 5 years. After stopping rabeprazole and correcting the electrolytes imbalances, his symptoms improved without recurrence.

To study the relation between the terrestrial γ-ray dose rate and subsurface geology, the γ-ray dose rate has been surveyed at 213 points in Okinoshima, an island situated in the Japan Sea, with a γ-ray survey meter. The results of this observation are the mean value of terrestrial γ-ray dose rate at 213 points = 57.1 nGyh-1, the standard deviation =15.2 nGyh-1, the maximum value =107.2 nGyh-1, and the minimum value=23.1 nGyh-1. On the soil of the basement rock in Okinoshima, the terrestrial γ-ray dose rate of Oki-gneiss is 72±15 nGyh-1, which is about 1.6 times as big as the reported value for metamorphic rock and others are the same in the literatures. It is considered that the terrestrial γ-ray dose rate of Okigneiss has been more strongly affected by the granitic magma which has been interpenetrated in the process of this formation. In Okinoshima, it is suggested that the geological features of the basement rock remain in the surface soil, due to a good correspondence between the geographical distribution of terrestrial γ-ray dose rate and the subsurface geology. And then, in the relation between the terrestrial γ-ray dose rate and the atmospheric 222Rn concentration, the magnitude of 222Rn concentration is smaller than this of place on large land area. Because of a small land area in Okinoshima, this is caused that the land air is mixed with the sea air by the advection for a long time except the time from the sunset to around the midnight. It is suggested that the time and space change characteristic of the diffusion and mixture process is different in contrast to a place of large land area.

Creative Hopelessness is intended to decrease the client’s motivation to control the unpleasant thoughts and emotion in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The main aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the Creative Hopelessness on the subjective measures of believability and motivation of Change Agenda. Change Agenda is the rules expressed in the following lines: if I could control undesirable thoughts and emotion, I could solve the problem. Undergraduate students (N=35) with high social avoidance tendency were randomly assigned to Creative Hopelessness group, Control group, or Placebo group. Creative Hopelessness group received a psychological education about the futility of making efforts to control unwanted thoughts and feelings. Control group received a psychological education to increase the motivation to control the unpleasant thoughts and emotion. Placebo group received a psychological education of the general clinical psychology about anxiety. The reduction of believability and motivation of Change Agenda following the intervention were found only in the Creative Hopelessness group.

There are two types of innovation: technology innovation and design innovation. Each type has a positive effect on corporate performance. However, results of our analysis on the appearance, user friendliness, and technological functionality of cellular phones between 2005 and 2010 show that in the years 2005–2007, when TV functionality was introduced in cellular phones, cellular phone manufacturers sacrificed appearance instead of improving functionality. However, this issue was resolved in 2008–2010, and companies succeeded in simultaneously attaining appearance and user friendliness. In other words, it has become clear that companies in the Japanese market first tend to prioritize functionality through technology innovation than appearance (i.e., industrial design), and then later tend to simultaneously pursue both appearance and user friendliness through design innovation.

Collective strategy, which allows small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to take on orders that a single company with its limited technical resources cannot, does not function in practice. However, Kyoto Shisaku Net (literally, “Kyoto Prototyping Network”) is a group of companies that uses collective strategy to aggressively take on projects that other companies turn down for reasons such as “the specifications aren't finalized,” “there is no way to estimate the cost of this project,” and “common sense tells us that is an impossible request.” There are three reasons for the creation of this virtuous circle: 1) In the Kyoto Shisaku Net participation stage, member companies of the Net participate with the understanding that it is a place to practice the “five percent rule,” wherein companies devote five percent of their profit and time to new efforts, company growth, and opportunities for innovation. 2) In the prototyping stage, employees are motivated by participating in cutting-edge R&D, and the companies gain knowledge related to R&D. 3) After the prototyping stage, companies accumulate experience by taking on cutting-edge projects and can stop the vicious circle SMEs find themselves wherein they do not have the experience to win orders. In this manner, Kyoto Shisaku Net has created a virtuous circle mechanism that functions as a collective strategy by aggressively working on cutting-edge prototypes.

Changes in organizational identity have been a particular focus of discussion in research to date. Prior studies have noted that organizational identity changes through interactions with images from external sources and that this changes behavior in organizations. However, because it is unclear what agent is choosing a new organizational identity, the dynamism of the phenomena is not well understood. Thus, when considering changes in organizational identity, why a particular organizational identity is selected and a determination of whether there are changes are necessarily vague. This study asserts the importance of managers as agents of choice in understanding changes in organizational identity. Within organizations, a better understanding is required regarding the role of higher-level managers in an organizations hierarchy in the process of political negotiations and decision making, in which a certain organizational identity acquires legitimacy.

Do members of Japanese companies behave according to Takahashi's (1996a, 2013b) leaning on future principle? This paper attempts to directly validate this, focusing on organization members' decision to participate, that is, whether organization members continue to participate in the organization or leave the organization, and to clarify the underlying reasons behind the decision to participate from the viewpoint of the future parameter. This paper adopts Takahashi's (1996a) “perspective index” as a future parameter. Using data from the JPC Survey, an annual survey of around 9,000 people taken from 1992 to 2000, the perspective index can adequately explain job satisfaction and turnover candidates: Near-perfect linearity between perspective index and job satisfaction ratio/turnover candidate ratio. This paper also shows that as the perspective index rises, the correlation between job satisfaction and turnover candidates disappears. Only when the future parameter remains at a low level, we can observe the correlation between job satisfaction and turnover candidates in Japanese companies.

Angeniol et al. applied Kohonen's Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) to solve the traveling salesman problem (TSP) and showed to have a practically enough solution obtained for a short time in comparison to a method depending on a conventional neural network in 1988. We confirmed already that a calculation time is shortened further about TSP of 500 cities, by introducing a momentum effect to the renewal coefficient of original method (Angeniol's, method; SOM-TSP). Here, we report that we evaluated a performance of our improved method about TSP of more large 1000, 2000, 10000 cities.

Environmentally, sustainable development will increase durability to any changes in the environment. Planning and urban design as a form of physical intervention in urban development should anticipate phenomenon of global warming through design decisions. A balanced development between the physical environment of development and environmental conservation should be done to achieve a healthy urban environment for present and future generations. The balance between green space and developed space with an integrated system of environmental infrastructure will increase the carrying capacity of an urban environment. Green city planning and design is one solution to global warming phenomenon. Green city concept was conceived as an answer that emphasizes aspects of environmental sustainability considerations in solving the urban problems (Murota and Ito, 1996). Green city planning implications in urban planning and design approach is the realization of the overall ecological city (Eco-city). This paper aims to discuss the concept of city planning and design approach that is able to eliminate global warming. Purpose of the discussion in this article was to determine whether the product of city planning has to anticipate problems of global warming became a major issue of urban development. The discussion in this article is the result of a review of the design of Long-Term Development Plan 0f 2005-2025 and Spatial Planning of Surabaya 2009-2029.

Improvements in dentin bonding systems have influenced modern restorative dentistry. The desire for minimal invasiveness has resulted in more-conservative cavity design, which basically relies on the effectiveness of current dentin bonding systems. Interaction of adhesives with enamel and dentin is based on two systems, commonly described as etch-and-rinse and self-etch. Priming and bonding agents can be separate or combined, resulting in two- or three-step systems for etch-and-rinse adhesives and one- or two-step systems for self-etch adhesives. Self-etch systems use acidic functional monomers that simultaneously demineralize and impregnate tooth structures. Etch-and-rinse and self-etch systems have advantages and disadvantages, which are primarily related to the simplified bonding procedures required under clinical conditions. Knowledge of the composition, characteristics, and mechanisms of adhesion for each adhesive system is critical in selecting the ideal adhesive materials for clinical use. (J Oral Sci 56, 1-9, 2014)

Isodine Gargle is the new one that contain the non-irritating and germicidal polyvinylpyrrolidone iodine and the ethanol. It has the antiseptic as well as the aseptic power. Hemolytic streptococci, botryoidimicrococci and pneumococci become to be extinct by its effect within one minute and the other bacilli within 15 minutes at least. Isodine Gargle is one of the most useful gargle and the prophylactic as the therapeutics to the pharyngitis.

This research seeks to evaluate the experience of nature in the architectural instruments as created by Le Corbusier, in terms of the phenomenology of corporal experience. The architecture of Le Corbusier is active in viewing the spectacular landscape of nature through frontal localization, windows, ramps, and roof gardens. His architecture has the attitude of separating from earth and opposing and viewing nature as an autonomic machine. The nature experience of Le Corbusier is largely divided into seeing from on high and seeing while walking. Considering the senses of the body and the aspects of movement responding to each situation, the experience of seeing and contemplating nature on a large scale has an abstract quality. Seeing nature as an object from afar basically limits the experience in the information of the senses and the abstraction of nature. For the concrete experience of nature, what is needed is the idea that the body takes part in the diverse sensorial worlds and is simultaneously taken in by the situation. This research also aims to reconsider the qualities of experiences of nature, based on the modernity characterized by the separation of human from nature and sprit from body.
