Relative gravity data is continuously collected using different types of portable relative gravimeters on a trial basis, toward the future utilization of continuous relative gravity measurements for monitoring spatiotemporal mass variations associated with volcanic activities. The gravity data is first recorded using the Tera Term software installed to a Windows-based PC; although a typical LaCoste & Romberg gravimeter does not have any devices to transmit its gravity value digitally, its analog voltage output from its readout socket can be converted to serial data format using an appropriate analog-digital converter. The recorded gravity data is then sent to an Ubuntu-based computer periodically to draw graphs of gravity time series. The graphs are finally uploaded to a web server so as to monitor temporal gravity variations anytime and anywhere. The above system for continuous relative gravity measurement was applied to the LaCoste G680 gravimeter, which was installed at the Kyoto-A gravity point, Kyoto University in September 2017. The G680’s gravity data in 2018 clearly showed time variations in short-period tide and annual instrumental drift. In particular, the instrumental drift was expressed by the linear gravity decrease of about 10 mGal/year and the additional annual gravity variation of about 1.5 mGal amplitude. These results suggest that typical LaCoste gravimeters can be utilized for continuous relative gravity measurements without major instrumental remodeling.

A bistable system efficiently detects a weak signal by adding noise, which is referred to as stochastic resonance. A previous theory deals with friction in state transition; however, this hypothesis is inadequate when friction force is negligible such as in nano-and molecular-scale systems. We show that, when the transition occurs without friction, the sensitivity of the bistable system to a Gaussian-noise-imposed weak signal becomes significantly high. The sensitivity is determined by the relative difference in noise distribution function. We find that the relative difference in Gaussian distribution function diverges in its tail edge, resulting in a high sensitivity in the present system. (C) 2018 The Japan Society of Applied Physics

本稿の目的は、シティズンシップ教育を労働・貧困問題から問い直し、「社会的シティズンシップ教育」というかたちでシティズンシップ教育を再検討することである。シティズンシップ教育(主権者教育)というと多くは「政治的」な問題(模擬投票や模擬裁判など)を扱うものと思われようが、本稿では「社会的」な問題(労働・貧困問題)からシティズンシップ教育を考えてみたい。シティズンシップを歴史的に検討してみると、「政治的シティズンシップ」と「社会的シティズンシップ」に分けることができる。そして、現在では「社会的シティズンシップ」は後景に退き、主権者教育というかたちで「政治的シティズンシップ」が注目されている。しかし、「非正規雇用の拡大」や「子どもの貧困」が問題となるなかで、学校教育においてこれらの問題にいかに取り組んでいくかがいま改めて問われている。本稿では、政治的なシティズンシップ教育とは別の方向性として、「社会的シティズンシップ教育」を示すことにする。この「社会的シティズンシップ教育」として、高校における2つの実践、「アルバイトの雇用契約書をもらってみる」実践と「貧困をテーマにした文化祭」実践を取り上げる。これらは、労働・貧困問題から出発して、その問題を公共性の次元に引き上げながら、政治的に覚醒させる実践となっているのである。

本稿の目的は,ナイジェリア連邦共和国の都市イレ・イフェの「アーティスト」であるコラウォレ・オラインカという個人をおもな事例とし,彼が「アーティスト」としてどのように生きているのかを,ナイジェリアの歴史的・社会的コンテクストに位置づけて明らかにすることを通して,アフリカにおける「アート」のあり方について考察することである。これまで,人類学は非西洋における芸術/ 美術/ モノの意味や社会的機能を明らかにしてきた。また,西洋と非西洋の不均衡な力関係を乗り越えようとする展示の試みも行ってきた。ところが,作品のつくり手である「アーティスト」が,地域社会,そして西洋近代のアートワールドという異なるふたつの要素と関わり合うなかで,そうしたつくり手の視点に注目して当該地域における「アート」が論じられることはほとんどなかった。これに対して本稿は,オラインカという個人のつくり手の生活世界とライフヒストリー,作品制作や販売のプロセスを分析し,考察することによって,彼が地域社会やアートワールドと関わりながら生きている様を明らかにしていく。

The purpose of this study was to have verified a muscle that began to contract fastest in the punch of boxing. The Fifteen university-age males with no history of chronic low back pain participated in the study. Participants were ranked as BOX (n=8) or CON (n=7). Subjects performed a straight punch with the rear arm (dominant arm). Electromyographic activity of deltoid muscle, rectus femoris muscle, rectus abdominis muscle, external oblique muscle, internal oblique muscle-transversus abdominis muscle; IO-TrA, multifidus muscle were measured. As a result, the IO-TrA was invariably the first contractive muscle in BOX and CON, supporting the hypothesized role of this muscle in spinal stiffness generation.

Since the beginning of the 20th century the Homeric epics have been the main focus of historical discussions on "the Trojan War" in the Mycenaean Age and the actual societies and cultures of the later periods. In this paper I envisage the Iliad as not so much a historical document as a fictional work and propose to make clear the poet's social vision which should have appealed to his contemporary audience near the end of the Dark Age. The literary world of the Iliad, as J. Goold has pointed out, is made up of the four model societies: those of the Greeks at Troy, Troy itself, the gods on Olympus and the Greeks at the age of Homer, of which the last one is described briefly on the Shield of Achilles and in similes. From this general view I proceed to put in the foreground the depiction of the city at war - a secularized and reduced Iliad - on the Shield (Il. l8.509-540) and to look from there into 'the vanishing point' on which the 'parallel lines' of the other three societies should converge in a poetic perspective. At the end of this dynamic structure the victorious Achilles, who insults the defeated Hector's dead body and has become a helpless victim of physical force, is saved from this fatal mechanism of perpetual violence by the divine familial affection and the old king Priam's action of paternal love for his son. And just after the reconciliation, the entire narrative concludes with Hector's funeral which symbolizes the continuation of Troy's social life. Thus Homer seems to show his original view in which the type of his Trojan society, an urban civilization with the great potentialities of mediating social conflicts and resolving mental crises, can repair the grave defects inherent to such an excessively competitive organization as his Greek army and provide good guidance for the people of many emerging city-states of his time.
