The usefulness as one of the tools for self-medication of oral rehydration therapy (ORT), recommended as a safe and effective therapy for mild to moderate dehydration, was surveyed by questionnaire for pharmacists in community pharmacies. ORT products were sold in 112 pharmacies (61%), and the common product was OS-1®. Approximately 50% of sellers answered that they had no particular difficulty in explaining ORT. Percentage to answer “hard to describe” is significantly higher in pharmacists who believe there is a need to consider underlying health conditions of customers or patients when implementing ORT. Around 77% of pharmacists considered ORT to be useful in patients as a method of self-medication. A significant number of pharmacists selling ORT products depends on the consultation from customers or patients and provide advice to them confirming that ORT was useful. From these results, it was suggested that further information concerning ORT, such as its use in patients with chronic disorders or signs for completion, and the initiative of pharmacists to participate are necessary for spread the efficacy of ORT for self-medication in patients.

富山県内の土壌,下水処理場の活性汚泥,及び生物工学研究センター保存菌株(TPU)よりアゾ化合物である4,6-ビスフェニルアゾレゾルシノール(4,6-Bis)の分解微生物の探索を行った。その結果,好気条件である振とう培養,及びTPUからのスクリーニングにおいては4,6-Bisに由来する褐色を脱色する活性を示す株は一株も得られなかったが,静置培養では脱色活性を有する微生物8株を得た。この内,5株(No.1∿No.5)は活性の発現に液体培地への流動パラフィンの重層や絶対嫌気条件のガスパック中での平板培養を必要としたのに対し,残りの3株(No.201∿No.203)は活性発現にこのような厳密な嫌気性での培養を必要としなかった。また,No.201∿No.203の3株は培地中の4,6-Bis (0.002%)を10日間の静置培養により完全に脱色した。4,6-Bisが分解された培養液をHPLCにより分析した結果,アゾ基の還元的開裂により生成すると予想される4,6-ジアミノレゾルシノール(DAR)は検出されなかった。

Endogenous bacterial endophtalmitis is a rare but serious condition. It occurs in the eyeball when bacteria cross the blood-ocular barrier. We report a case of endogenous bacterial endopthalmitis arising from severe periodontitis without any noticeable systemic anamnestic.<br>A 53-year-old man was referred to the ophthalmology department in our university hospital complaining of reduced visual acuity in the right eye. His visual acuity was hand movements right and 0.7 left eye, respectively. His right eye showed hypopyon, dense vitreous opacity and retinal hemorrhages. Because of a finding peculiar to infective endocarditis from an echocardiography, we diagnosed the patient with endogenous endophthalmitis that caused infective endocarditis. Although there was no infection impact on his general condition, <i>α-streptococcus</i> was detected in his blood culture examination. Therefore, he was referred to our clinic for oral examination and care. He was diagnosed with chronic periodontitis and severe resorption of alveolar bone and gum swelling by oral examination and X-rays. The <i>α-streptococcus</i> was detected in a bacterial examination of the exudate from the gingival pocket. Fourteen teeth with severe periodontitis were extracted. The visual acuity in the right eye increased up to 0.07 at 6 months after the teeth extraction.<br>Though bacteriological identification was not accomplished completely, the endogenous endophtalmitis in the present case seemed to be affected with mitral regurgitation and vegetation, following infective endocarditis by oral <i>Streptococci</i>.

Odontogenic keratocyst has been reported by many authors as a specific entity of odontogenic cysts since first described by Philipsen.<BR>Histopathologically, keratinization of the epithelial lining and formation of micro cyst; clinically, higher incidence of recurrence are characterized. Three hundred and sixty odontogenic cysts operated in the Department of Oral Surgery from 1966 to 1984 were studied. A representative histopathologic section from each cyst was screened, using the criteria for odontogenic keratocysts as stated by Pindborg.<BR>Of the 360 cases, 24 fullfilled the histologic criteria for odontogenic keratocysts, for a 6.7 per cent incidence. Of the twenty-four patients, one was diagnosed as basal-cell nervous syndrome, and had five cysts. Of the 24 patients, six had cyst recurrence for a rate of 32 per cent. One patient each had recurrence after one year five months, after three years, after three years four months, after three years five months, after four years six months and one four years ten months after the primary operation. Recently, some investigators have pointed out that odontogenic keratocyst may be benign cystic epithelial neoplasia. In our study, this opinion has been taken into account in view of the higher incidence of recurrence, but no histologically precise feature was obtained.

Laboratory corrosion test of clay-bonded SiC specimen at the slag surface has been carried out in argon, argon-oxygen and air, in order to elucidate the mechanism of local attack of blast-furnace-trough material at the slag surface. The local corrosion arises only in the oxidizing atmosphere in the narrow zone just above the slag surface. The corrosion zone of solidified specimen during the progress of the corrosion is covered with thin liquid slag film. Supplying rate of oxygen from the atmosphere gives remarkable influences on the relations between the corrosion rate and dipping times, slag compositions, etc. It is estimated that the slag film, crept up from the bulk slag, plays important roles in the occurence of the local corrosion by accelerating mass transfer and causing the abrasion of the specimen due to its active movements in diffusion layer caused by Marangoni effect. SiC granules on the surface of the specimen are oxidized by iron oxide in the film into carbon granules, which causes Marangoni effect and also facilitates the dissolution and abrasion of the specimen. Some countermeasures against the local corrosion have been offered from the corrosion mechanism.

A new occurrence of freibergite from the Chichibu Mine is described. The freibergite, which was found from the upper part of the Daikoku ore deposits, associated with pyrite, euhedral crystal of chalcopyrite, bornonite, ankerite and quartz. Mineralogical properties of the mineral are as follows; 1. euhedral, tetrahedral crystal about 1cm in diameter. 2. streak color, reddish brown. 3. ao=10.435A. 4. the spectrochemical analysis shows the presence of the major amounts of Cu, Ag and Sb, minor amounts of Fe, As and Si, and trace of Zn, Pb and Cd.

問 日本企業の多くが、賃上げありきの仕組みを改め、賃金を抑制する方向にあります。逆に言うと、なぜこれまで、賃金の上昇を抑えてこなかったのでしょう。 答 一言で言えば、バブル期に労使ともにたがが緩んだということでしょう。定期昇給は別としても、ベア(ベースアップ)を続けてきたのはおかしい。本来ベアは、物価上昇分と生産性向上分を合わせた額になるはずです。

都市下水を処理しているUASB-DHSシステムのG3型DHSリアクターの微生物群集構造をrRNAアプローチを用いて解析した.クローン解析による結果はリアクター上・中・下部において微生物群集構造が異なっていることを示しており,微生物多様性はリアクター上部において最も低かった.定量Real-time PCR法による各種微生物のrRNA遺伝子の定量結果は,アンモニアおよび亜硝酸酸化細菌の存在率がリアクター中・下部に行くにつれて増加することを示していた.リアクター上部からのアンモニア除去は,活性汚泥と同程度以上のアンモニア酸化細菌群の存在率に加え,DHSリアクターの高い汚泥保持能力および酸素供給能力に由来する可能性が示唆されるなど,除去メカニズムに関する知見を得ることが出来た.
