In this paper, we compare Attainment Test for Mathematics and Engineering Mathematics Test (EMaT) carried out by National Institute of Technology, Kure College from 2015 to 2017. We found significant positive correlations between them, implying that academic development of mathematics in Kure College successfully connects to engineering mathematics in university. However, we also found that approximately half of the students do not reach sufficiently high learning level for the engineering mathematics in university. Moreover, differences of scores among four departments are found to be significant. Considering these results, we suggest some educational plans to improve the learning level for the engineering mathematics in university.

Empagliflozin reduces blood glucose levels independently of insulin secretion by reducing glucose reabsorption in the proximal renal tubules through inhibition of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2). Because SGLT2 inhibitors have a different mechanism of action to conventional antidiabetic drugs, recommendations have been issued about the management of specific side effect such as ketoacidosis, urinary tract infection, and genital infection. There have been some reports of SGLT2 inhibitor-associated euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (euDKA), but there have been few reports about euDKA in patients with type 2 diabetes using SGLT2 inhibitors while on a low-carbohydrate diet. Here we report a patient who developed euDKA after starting a very low-carbohydrate diet while taking empagliflozin. A 51-year-old man was hospitalized with nausea and vomiting, and investigations revealed metabolic acidosis. euDKA was diagnosed from the information about medications in his drug notebook and a history of eating a low-carbohydrate diet (1900 kcal, consisting of 5.7% carbohydrate, 21.1% protein, 47.3% fat and 25.9% alcohol) for 4 d. The patient improved after infusion of acetated Ringer's solution with 5% glucose and administration of regular insulin. It is necessary for physicians and pharmacists to thoroughly inform patients about the side effects of SGLT2 inhibitors such as ketoacidosis, urinary tract infection, and genital infection. Patients should also be advised about the higher risk of euDKA associated with a low-carbohydrate diet while taking SGLT2 inhibitors.

東日本大震災後,緊急被ばく医療の体制強化が重要な課題となった。原子力発電所所在地域を支える災害拠点病院である当院の緊急被ばく医療に対する取り組みを報告する。2002年4月に「緊急被ばく医療マニュアル」を作成し,同時に緊急被ばく医療チームを結成した。院内研修会,緊急被ばく傷病者受け入れ訓練を継続的に実施し,実際の管理区域内労働災害傷病者もほぼ毎年受入れた。原子力安全研究協会主催の緊急被ばく医療研修は2012年度までにのべ280名の職員が受講した。2002年度から,地域を越える広域対応のために宮城地区被ばく医療ネットワーク会議に参加するとともに,2008年度には,当院独自のネットワークを基本として石巻地区被ばく医療ネットワーク会議を立ち上げ,地域の緊急被ばく医療体制を構築した。実効性のある緊急被ばく医療を提供するには,職員の放射線に対する知識習得に加えて,緊急被ばく医療を災害医療の重要な一領域と捉え,最悪の事態は必ず起こるという現実的危機をもった広域の体制作りが肝要と思われる。

Image-based finite element (FE) simulation, based on images of a model built with 3D images obtained by synchrotron radiation nano-tomography, was performed to investigate the point of preferential damage on Si particles in the early stage of tensile deformation in Al-10%Si casting alloys. By reproducing stress concentration on Si particles with the FE simulation, the effects of particle parameters such as (1) particle size, (2) particle orientation to loading direction, and (3) particle shape on damage were evaluated. Nano-tomography observation suggested that the parameters influence damage. The increasing rate of maximum hydrostatic stress differed depending on the Si particle size. Larger particles showed rapid increment in stress, suggesting that preferential damage may occur in large particles at an early stage of tensile deformation. In the study on the influence of particle orientation, particles whose longitudinal direction are more or less parallel to the tensile direction tend to also show rapid increment in stress. However, the most rapid development of the maximum hydrostatic stress was observed in particles possessing small Gaussian curvature which corresponds to severe necking. Comparisons of particles having specific parameters with damaging behavior revealed that the most influential parameter of particles on stress concentration was particle shape possessing necking.

<p>  The feasibility of applying the fluidized bed furnace to the solution and aging treatments of aluminum alloys was assessed by examining concerns such as the efficiency of heat treatments and delay of quenching, together with its merits such as the shortening of heat treatment and the possibility of high temperature heat treatments.</p><p>  It was concluded that this method realizes high efficiency of heat treatments, which is comparable to that attainable with the combination of a salt bath and oil bath. By suppressing the delay time within 20 to 30sec. after the removal of works from the fluidized bed furnace, no degradation in mechanical properties occurs. The allowable delay time is dependent on the work size. The solution treatment time can be shortened to 60min. or below. Good mechanical properties were obtained even with a short solution treatment time of 15min. depending on the size and thickness of the work. This also enables suppression of pore growth at the same time. In addition, high temperature heat treatment at around ternary eutectic temperatures was realized by precise temperature control, thereby realizing superior mechanical properties and shorter heat treatment time.</p>

板状の介在物粒子を含むアルミニウム鋳造合金の疲労破壊挙動を放射光 CT および大規模有限要素解析により検証した。疲労亀裂は主として介在物と母相の界面剥離から生じた。界面剥離と介在物粒子の破損はほぼ同時に多数発生し、多数の空隙を生じさせた。単一の亀裂の進展速度は遅く、多数の空隙が合体することで、亀裂は進展した。材料表面では Al 母相の塑性ひずみが蓄積し易く、Al 母相のひずみ硬化による応力増加が、材料表面近傍での介在物の破損を生じさせた。

The objective of this study is to evaluate the stress/strain distribution on a cast aluminum alloy (AC4CH-T6) employing image based nonlinear elasto-plastic finite element analysis. The numerical analysis was performed to simulate a uni-axial tension test. The geometry of the finite element model includes an aluminum matrix, silicon and inter-metallic particles which were obtained by the synchrotron X-ray micro-computed tomography (XMCT) technique. In order to create a proper finite element mesh, the Standard Triangle Language (STL) generated from the XMCT segmented volume was treated to remove geometric and structural irregularities. Results are discussed in terms of the number of elements necessary to accurately represent the stress/strain fields and the necessary computational time to simulate the problem. Additionally, results enabled visualizing the stress/strain distributions, stress concentration, and the stress/strain evolution on the three solids of interest.

The crack initiation mechanism of cast aluminum alloy was addressed to quantitatively evaluate the fatigue strength. The synchrotron radiation microtomography was employed to visualize the three-dimensional damage around pores and Si particles. Two types of specimens were prepared for the low cycle fatigue test. The temperature of solution treatment was different, and it yields a difference in the shape of Si particles. After a certain cycles of fatigue, a catastrophic damage around many Si particles happened and they connected to each other so as to form a crack. The scanning electron microscopy after the test showed that the type of damage was the break of long Si particles or the interface debonding around round Si particles.

The effects of young barley leaf powder(YBLP) on defecation frequency and fecal characteristics were studied in 61 healthy volunteers(34.1 &plusmn; 10.2 years old). The subjects were divided at random into 4 groups;non-dose control group(CG), low-dose group(LG), middle-dose group(MG), and high-dose group(HG). Total examination period was 4 weeks. After one week as the pre-test period, all groups were given a placebo diet for one week(placebo period). For the following 2 weeks(test period), CG, LG, MG and HG was given a placebo diet(not contained YBLP), a low-dose diet(1.5 g), a middledose diet(4.5 g) and a high-dose diet(6.0 g), respectively. In analysis, the subjects were screened under the condition that defecation frequency was below 7 times for one week of the pre-test period. This result showed that MG increased the defecation frequency and estimated fecal quantity significantly for the test period compared with those for the pre-test period, and HG increased them significantly for the test period compared with those for the pre-test period and placebo period. No clinical signs of toxicity recognized in the test period. These results suggest that YBLP has a fecal bulking effect and is useful for safety food material.

After a certain cycles of fatigue, a catastrophic damage around many silicon particles occurred, and they connected to each other so as to form a crack especially within the high stressed region around a relatively large pore. The scanning electron microscopy after the test showed that the type of damage was the breakage of long-shaped silicon particles or the aluminum–silicon interface debonding of round silicon particles. The high temperature solution treatment facilitated the interface debonding by the enlargement of silicon particles.

【目的】Balance Evaluation Systems Test(以下,BESTest),Mini-BESTest,Brief-BESTest およびBerg Balance Scale(以下,BBS)の得点分布の特性と転倒予測精度を比較することである。【方法】57名の入院患者(脳卒中者と骨折者)を対象とした。退院時に3 つのBESTest とBBS を測定し,退院後6 ヵ月間の転倒の有無を調査した。評価指標の得点分布と転倒予測精度を検討した。【結果】BBS のみに天井効果を認め,歪度からBBS の分布に偏りを認めた。転倒予測精度について,Area under the curve と感度でMini-BESTest が最も高く,特異度ではBBS が最も高かった。【結論】Mini-BESTest は,その得点分布が比較的均一で,中等度の転倒予測精度を有し,動作課題項目も少ないことから有用性の高い評価であることが示唆された。

平成25年4月に高年齢者雇用安定法が改正となり、企業はこの法律に合わせた就業規則を改定しなければならなくなった。厚生労働省は6月1日現在の「高年齢者の雇用状況」により毎年1回、各企業の高齢者の確保措置の内容を調査している。 そこで、平成24年と25年の「高年齢者の雇用状況」を比較することにより、企業の継続雇用制度の導入状況はどうなっているのか、さらに実際に広島県東部地域の110社を訪問した結果により、この地域ではどのような導入状況になっているのかを調べたものである。また「高年齢者の雇用状況」だけでは分からない各社の継続雇用制度等の導入経緯や実態についても調べている。"Law concerning Stabilization of Employment of Older Persons" was revised in April, 2013, and each company came to have to reform the work rules united with this law. Furthermore, in the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare it is investigating how the measures of each company for securing the elderly people turn out once every year according to" job situation of the elderly people" (as of June 1). Then, it is investigating, by comparing" job situation of the elderly people" for 2012 and 2013, how the introductory situations of the continued employment system of a company turn out, moreover, by the result of having actually visited 110 companies of the eastern area of Hiroshima, what kind of introductory situation it is in this area. In addition, it is investigating the introductory process and the actual condition of the continued employment system of each company not to understand only with "job situation of the elderly people".

Fatigue crack in cast aluminum alloys subject to low-cycle fatigue is initiated mainly by the fracture of Si particles. To investigate the mechanism of Si particle fracture, we carried out the geometrical measurements and finite element analysis for a lot of Si particles in their actual geometrical configuration. The synchrotron X-ray CT was used for the geometrical measurement and the image-based finite element modeling. The fracture of Si particles were detected as a source of crack initiation from the CT images captured during the fatigue test. The large-scale voxel finite element model contains the outer surface, pores, Si and intermetallics. The number of elements was about 150 million. Two cycles of loading were calculated. The finite element analysis and its post-processing were performed on the supercomputers by the massively-parallel computing. The result of finite element analysis showed that the first principal stress was concentrated around the aligned or gathered Si particles, and the gradual increase by cyclic loading in the stress of the Si particles appeared near the outer surface and pores. Moreover, the result of geometrical measurements showed that the volume, shape index and adjacency index of each Si particle could be used to evaluate the likelihood of particle fracture. The probability of particle fracture was statistically evaluated with respect to those geometrical and mechanical parameters. The relationship between mechanical and geometrical parameters were also examined. As the result, the criteria of fractured Si particle was proposed by using the combination of geometrical and mechanical parameters.

For the establishment of successful cryopreservation of Caenorhabditis elegans, freezing survival of the nematode was investigated in the presence of dimethylsulfoxide. When nematodes were cooled to -20 ℃ with the rate of 0.2 ℃/min after ice seeding treatment at -3 ℃, survival rate of the nematode increased with the time of exposure to the DMSO solution before freezing. The rate was above 80% irrespective of the cooling temperature between -20 to -75 ℃. However, the nematodes hardly survived when they were quenched by liquid nitrogen after the pre-freezing at -20 ℃, The rate of freezing survival became higher with the decrease in the pre-freezing temperature before plunging into LN_2. Heating rate also affected freezing survival. Slow heating probably prevented rapid rehydration of the nematode and increased survival rate after thawing.

Studies of geographic profiling (GP) have generally investigated the efficacy of two categories of GP strategies for predicting an offender’s base. These strategies can be classified as follows: (a) spatial distribution strategies, assessed by center of the circle hypothesis, mean center, median center, and the center of minimum distance, and (b) probability distance strategies, assessed by linear, negative exponential, logarithmic, and lognormal distributions. GP strategies were compared based on the data of 333 residential burglars who had committed at least three offenses in the Tohoku region during the years 2004-2013. Search area (total area that is searched before locating the offender’s base) was utilized as an index for accuracy measure. The results demonstrated that probability distance strategies are more accurate than spatial distribution strategies. We conclude that this is because probability distance strategies captured crime patterns of residential burglars more precisely than spatial distribution strategies.
