This paper discusses house types and their transformation of Fuzhou city in Fujian(China). Authors selected the old castle district of the central part of Fuzhou, which are called Sanfangqixiang and Zhuzifang at present, as an intensive field study and clarified the typology of dwelling units and the transformation process. The central areas of old castle are still occupied by low rise houses and shop houses and are designated as a preserved area. The formation of the target areas, the origin of which goes back to Tang dynasty, does not seem to follow a certain formal system, but we can point out the system of formation of street blocks, based on typology of traditional house dacao and its collective form. This paper classified 39 residences called dacuo , which we measured and collected from the others' documents, in terms of the numbers of spans and courtyards, into several types and discusses the collective system of dacuo.

The paper is aimed to clarify habitants’ life-style in terms of the living activities of exterior common use space in urban villages (chengzhongcun) based on a case study. From the study, we concluded that improving the function of exterior common use space that promotes the communication between local original residents and migrant residents correlated positively with both the trend towards stable settlement and sustainability of mixed social communities in urban villages.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between spatial organization and means of transportation of large commercial buildings in the metropolitan suburbs. Firstly, we compared the commercial characteristic with means of transportation in Tokyo Metropolitan Area, using person trip survey and census of commerce. Based on the result, we chose the target area and performed an on-the-spot survey. The result shows that from 1998 through 2008, the share of car users increased, and the spatial organization of the commercial buildings is greatly influenced by the distance from the nearest station and scale of the station.

This study is to examine how Toyama, a castle town, harnessed the creeks which flew through the town, focusing on its drainage system. For this purpose, function, structure and construction process as well as storm water discharge of the system are examined. Resulted findings are as follows. 1) Water from irrigation system for farms on the back of the town flew into the creeks and increased the risk of flooding. 2) The major channel of the system was dug to detour the creeks around the town. 3) Storm water exceeding capacity of the major channel resulted floods of the creeks.

We investigated earthquakes in Japan, where strong ground motion records coincided with building damage data, examining correlation between various indices of seismic destructive power and building damage ratios. We also carried out earhtquake response analyses and calculated responses to one-cycle sine-wave inputs. We proposed the average elastic acceleration or velocity response at periods from 1.2 to 1.5 s with a damping factor of 0.05 as an optimum destructive power index of strong ground motion for predicting building damage ratios. The period range is based on the equivalent periods that are calculated for residences with typical elastic periods considering inelastic elongation. We then formulated the vulnerability function using this proposed index and modified the JMA seismic intensity scale for obtaining better correlation with actual building damage.

We propose a method of calculating seismic intesities by using response spectra in various period ranges. In the original JMA scale, weak, middle and strong ground motions are measured by human body sense and indoor objects motions, moderate damage to buildings, and heavy damage to buildings, respectively. These indices correspond to ground motions in period ranges of 0.1-1s, 0.5-1s and 1-2s. We then formulate low, middle and high intensities with average response spectra in the period ranges. We also propose an algorithm to synthesize these intensities into a single instrumental seismic intensity.

Purpose of this study is to verify the progress on community activities at huge-scale condominium Citia which has the various common facility and community support system, based on time serial research. The Part2 reports the process of 10 years after moving in. Residents' experience of community activities increased. Participation in the activities and consciousness about human contact remain good condition.Through the activities, the human contact and the community of the neighborhood spread.Usage of common facilities has a big influence of residents' life-stage transition. Integrated system of hardware and software can lead to the development of community activities.

1. Eiji Shimizu was born in Hyogo prefecture. He was a freelance architect, who established his office at his local city. One of the well-known buildings designed by him is Mikage municipal hall. 2. Shimizu, graduated from Tokyo Teikoku university, the first section chief of the architecture section of Kobe municipal office. His main purpose lay in rebuilding the public facilities by using rein-forced concrete. 3. He was inaugurated as the most responsible man in charge of architecture in housing association. 4. He not only edited magazine on dwellings, which aim was enlightening common people, but also taught at a professional school.

The objective of this study is to represent the characteristic of the experience of space, such as a building or a garden, by the graphical expression of the schema framing the space. Particularly, we pay attention to the relations between the space and the person who experience there. The extracted characteristic of the experience of space would be able to be applied to new space design. And, we should be able to understand and explain the experience of space by the schema. This paper proposes a method of schematizing the characteristic of the experience of space and the schemata that are extracted from the experiences of the cozy garden sequence by using this method.

This paper describes the development of cast-in-place concrete piles at the dawn of Japanese foundation technology. The first cast-in-place concrete pile was <i>compressole pile</i> imported from France in 1907. The compressole pile was formed by dropping a hammer on the casted concrete in an excavated hole. Those piles installed at those days still exist in a number of historical buildings during more than 100 years. Following the compressole pile, <i>abbot pile</i> was introduced from the United States in 1910. The <i>abbot pile</i> is same manner to compressole pile, but using a casing tube to make a drilled hole.

The church of Imamura was constructed by the local master-builder, Yosuke TETSUKAWA, around 1913. This paper aims to clarify its management and the execution scheme of constructing the church of Imamura, by verifying comprehensively the various records, written by Yosuke at the construction site. As a result, it is presumed that Yosuke prepared to make architectural drawings for construction in advance and then estimated the proper amount of the building material by using the relevant drawings. Based on there evidences, Yosuke is highly presumed as a local contractor to have established the modern construction system for undertaking its project in the church of Imamura.

In this paper, the energy consumption of the electrified housing located in Hiroshima area was grasped, and the relationships between the energy consumption by hot water supply system and the housing attributes of residents were examined. To predict the annual and monthly energy consumption, the Quantity Theory Cluster I was applied. Based on the analysis, the factors affecting to the energy consumption were clarified, and the influence of energy consumption was compared among the factors.As for the predictive equations for energy consumption, the multiple correlation coefficients of annual value and monthly values were explained with 0.852 and 0.740-0.827 respectively. Also, it was clarified that “types of water heater&rdquo; had major influence on energy consumption throughout a year, and “number of frequency for filling hot water into a bathtub in winter&rdquo; and “age of the first child of the family&rdquo; had influence in winter season.

This study discussed the estimation of asbestos waste generation from both dispersed and undispersed asbestos building materials in building demolition by comparing three possible future outcomes, from “30±2 years Longevity Scenario”, “Simple Remaining-rate Function Scenario” and “Floating Remaining-rate Function Scenario”. The main results are as follows,1. Each scenario led quite different future outcomes, especially in case of undispersed asbestos building materials wastes. And there is a possibility of leading the false outcome by “30±2 years Longevity Scenario” for the generated period and the maximum quantity.2. “Simple Remaining-rate Function Scenario” and “Floating Remaining-rate Function Scenario” led similar outcomes in case of dispersed asbestos building materials wastes, though the latter is a little less until middle of the 2020's.3. These outcomes have a big influence on the future management of processing and disposal of asbestos waste.

This paper examines effect and development possibility of 3411 deregulation district designated by city planning law. Analysis result of population change by using 500 metres mesh data and questionnaire result to farmland owner in depopulation cities show as follows; 1) Deregulation district that is designated near urbanization promotion area have some development possibilities. 2) The development possibility increases by enhancing provision of information to farmland owners. and 3) To keep or activate villages located far from urbanization promotion area, the deregulation district should be designated to core villages in a limited way.

Several analysis were applied to the experimental data obtained from the different environmental conditions and procedures to investigate the difference between two unspecific scales; the impression of “hot-cold” and “warm-cool”. The main results are as follows; 1) “warm-cool” was different from “hot-cold” in the degree of the influence of temperature and the auditory factor, 2) the possibility was shown that “warm-cool” and “hot-cold” were not on the one-dimensional placement, 3) the difference of the degree of the influence of the auditory factor was conspicuously shown by combining with temperature.

The study deals with EP roof type lattice shells with ceiling panels supported by truss arch frames on the both sides. The estimation method based on the elasto-plastic dynamic buckling analyses considering a geometric nonlinearity is proposed to calculate practically the base-shear strength coefficient and the applied seismic lateral and vertical load distributions on the lattice shell and the truss arch frame. As far as the collapsed mechanism is concerned, the member buckling occurs in the both structural elements. The proposed method is practically useful to determine the collapse mechanism and calculate the ultimate lateral strength on the earthquake-proof design for the damage and safety limit earthquakes.

Until recently few research efforts have been directed toward the application of seismic isolation systems in large-span spatial structures. This is due to the light weight and relatively long natural period of this type of structure which makes it difficult to apply the commonly used isolation system composed of laminated rubber isolators and dampers. In this paper, the use of a seismic isolation system with sliding mechanism is proposed for large-span spatial structures. In order to confirm its effectiveness in reducing the seismic response, shaking table tests are performed using a small-scale arch model supported by the base structures. It is confirmed that the proposed seismic isolation system is effective in reducing substantially the response due to horizontal ground motions. It is also demonstrated that the response of the arch is significantly influenced by the dynamic properties of the base structures, but can be well predicted by the dynamic response analysis considering the arch-base structure interaction.

In order to consider countermeasures against concrete cracks caused by drying shrinkage, properties and pore size distribution of raw ore of aggregate which were used usually in Kansai area were measured at the first step. As a result, the following was found. There was a big difference at drying shrinkage ratio of each raw ore and there was a difference by core boring direction, too. But, even if same kind of raw ore, some have a big difference at drying shrinkage ratio by core boring direction, but the other doesn't have. High young's modulus of raw ore decreases its drying shrinkage. Low pore volume under 15nm radius of raw ore tends to decrease its drying shrinkage.

In order to investigate an influence of indoor sound environment in office on knowledge creative activity, subjective experiments were conducted in our study. In this experiments, subjective evaluations on “ease of meeting”, “quietness of sound environment” and “listening difficulty of speech” in two different types of group meetings (decision-making meeting and discussion to think of creative ideas) were measured under five types of sound environmental conditions (no-noise LAeq, 5min 38 dB, ambient noise (conversation noise) LAeq, 5min 40 dB, 45 dB, 50 dB, 60 dB) in a meeting room of the university. From the results, in regard to “quietness of sound environment”, we found that subjects start feeling noisy (not quiet) in sound environmental condition of ambient noise 50 dB, and that of 60 dB have an increased “listening difficulty of speech”. In the ambient noise 50 dB, “ease of meeting” was the highest evaluation for discussion to think of creative ideas among these experimental conditions. Furthermore, to investigate psychological factors related to ease of meeting, multiple regression analysis was performed using the data obtained from subjective experiments. These results of multiple regression analysis show that a quiet sound environment is not necessarily desirable in discussion to think of creative ideas. It was found that very quiet sound environment decrease the evaluation of “ease of meeting” in discussion to think of creative ideas. Thus, it was suggested that recommended indoor sound environmental condition to conduct discussion to think of creative ideas was ambient noise 50 dB.
