Background: In meta-analysis, the normal distribution assumption has been adopted in most systematic reviews of random-effects distribution models due to its computational and conceptual simplicity. However, this restrictive model assumption is possibly unsuitable and might have serious influences in practices.Methods: We provide two examples of real-world evidence that clearly show that the normal distribution assumption is explicitly unsuitable. We propose new random-effects meta-analysis methods using five flexible random-effects distribution models that can flexibly regulate skewness, kurtosis and tailweight: skew normal distribution, skew t-distribution, asymmetric Subbotin distribution, Jones–Faddy distribution, and sinh–arcsinh distribution. We also developed a statistical package, flexmeta, that can easily perform these methods.Results: Using the flexible random-effects distribution models, the results of the two meta-analyses were markedly altered, potentially influencing the overall conclusions of these systematic reviews.Conclusion: The restrictive normal distribution assumption in the random-effects model can yield misleading conclusions. The proposed flexible methods can provide more precise conclusions in systematic reviews.

科学技術研究に伴う,倫理的,法的,社会的影響について,主として人文社会科学的観点から検討を行う研究プログラムを「ELSI」と呼ぶ.本稿では,この思想と実践が,前世紀末の米国において生まれた経緯とその後の展開について,歴史的に概観する.この検討は,情報技術の分野においてELSI的課題と向きあう上でも,価値ある示唆を与えてくれるものと考えられる.

酒類製造においては,課税,表示,品質管理上様々な分析が必要であり,特に近年,政府の推進する日本産酒類の輸出環境として輸出時の分析書や表示の信頼性が求められ始めている。そのような中,今後,酒類分析の技能試験法の確立に向け,所管官庁,公共及び民間研究機関等が中心となって議論を始めるため,技能試験法に関する国内の食品分析における実施状況と海外の酒類分析の実施例が纏められている本稿はよい指針になる。広くご一読をいただきたい。

漢方医学において半表半裏とされる部位について,傷寒論条文を発生学的に検討したところ,鰓弓領域と一致性がみられた。鰓弓部分は主に三叉神経から迷走神経の支配領域に一致し,一部内耳神経と副神経にも関連が見られた。つまり,半表半裏証は鰓弓由来の部分が熱を持っている病態と考えられる。傷寒論と発生学は本来別のものであり,傷寒論の病態を発生学的に理解することには限界もあるが,理解の一助にもなるのではないかと思われる。

In current Japanese culture, the rise of one particular subculture has been especially conspicuous in recent years. The “hobby-world” (called otaku in Japanese) has been a powerful social force which has transformed Akihabara, the electronics discount district fo Tokyo. It has been the birth of a new community: “community through hobby/interest.” The influence of this subculture is reflected in the novels of Haruki Murakami.

Knowledge and contextual reasoning are essential to provide more efficient service robots that take into account diverse and continuously changing environments. In addition, since robots come into contact with humans, they need to have skills such as interactivity and language skills. In this paper, we propose a system for service robots that combines ontological knowledge reasoning and human-robot interaction to interpret natural language commands and successfully perform household tasks such as finding and delivering objects. We also apply this system to a real robot and verify its operation with commands that receive missing or unclear information, and clarify problems that occur in the real world.

現在、教育課程の授業科目を通じて学生が身に付けた能力(学修成果)の可視化が重視され、カリキュラム・マップが活用されているが、この能力は学生の大学生活も影響すると考えられる。そこで、本学卒業生の教学データから大学生活の違いを6つのクラスターに分類し、カリキュラム・マップから算出される能力をクラスター間で比較した。結果、それぞれに特徴的な傾向を確認した。

大学全体での教育の質保証体制を確立するために、概念図や組織図を作成して計画を立てることから始めるのがほとんどであるが、実際に質保証の PDCA サイクルを運用しようとすると諸々の困難があり、計画通りスムーズに進めるのが難しい場合が多い。本報告では、大阪医科薬科大学の IR 室が、大学全体の教学アニュアルレポートを作成することで、学部ごとの自己点検・評価と全学の質保証とを架橋しようとする試みを報告したい。
