We found that extracts of Japanese green tea leaves inhibited the growth of various bacteria causing diarrheal diseases. All tea samples tested showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, Vibrio cholerae O1, V. cholerae non O1. V. parahaemolyticus, V. mimicus, Campylobacter jejuni and Plesiomonas shigelloides. None of the tea samples had any effect on the growth of V. fluvialis, Aeromonas sobria, A. hydrophila, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enteritidis, enteroinvasive Escherichia coli, enterohemorrhagic E. coli, enteropathogenic E. coli, enterotoxigenic E. coli, Enterobacter cloacae or Yersinia enterocolitica. Salmonella and Shigella showed susceptibilities different depending on the kind of Japanese green tea. Japanese green tea showed also bactericidal activity over S. aureus, V. parahaemolyticus and even enteropathogenic E. coli which was not sensitive when tested by cup method. The bactericidal activity was shown even at the drinking concentration in daily life.

Albumin-bound paclitaxel (Abraxane®) is a lyophilized preparation that takes time to dissolve. Previously, we used a metal needle for dissolving Abraxane®. We then transitioned to a side hole-type plastic needle to prevent accidental needle-stick injuries. There is no literature regarding the ideal needle type, according to the material it is made of, for dissolving Abraxane®, and the effect on the characteristics of Abraxane® after dissolving with each needle is unknown. Therefore, we investigated the efficacy of the plastic needle for dissolving Abraxane®. The formulation was dissolved in three ways: by injecting saline for 30 s with a metal needle (M30s), injecting saline for 15 s with a plastic needle (P15s), and injecting saline for 30 s with a plastic needle (P30s). Each group was kept at rest for 5 min after saline infusion, and then the dissolution time was estimated. The median dissolution time was 82.5 (15 - 210) s for M30s, 75 (30 - 135) s for P15s, and 45 (15 - 120) s for P30s. P30s had a significantly shorter dissolution time than M30s (P < 0.01) and P15s (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the dissolution time between M30s and P15s; however, P15s tended to have a shorter dissolution time than M30s. We measured the diameter of Abraxane® particles after dissolving with each needle and found that the diameter was almost the same. Therefore, a side hole-type plastic needle might reduce the dissolution time compared with a metal needle without affecting the characteristics of Abraxane®.

一般に,音声の高さ (基本周波数) は,身長とは負の相関があると言われており,これは,声帯の長さが身長と関連するという仮説に基づいている.本研究では,この仮説をより詳細に検証するため,様々な体型情報と基本周波数との相関関係を調査し,基本周波数と相関の強い体型情報を明らかにすることを目指す.本稿では,年齢条件をほぼ統一した女子生徒の発話を対象に,音声の高さに相当する基本周波数を推定し,複数の体型情報との関連性を調査した結果を示す.音声収録は,半年程度の期間を開けて 2 度実施し,基本周波数と 5 種の体型情報 (身長 ・体重 ・首回り ・胴回り ・体格指数 (BMI: Body Mass Index)) との相関を分析した.分析の結果,基本周波数と身長との間に負の相関があることは確認できたが,それ以上に体重との相関が強いという傾向が認められた.

In order to obtain fundamental data to set up safety countermeasures against stair accidents, fatal falls on stairs during a 40 years period from 1950 to 1989 were analyzed from mortality statistics. Raw coding data of 1278 deaths originating from death certificates over a 2 years period from 1979 to 1980 in Japan were also analyzed. From obtained results in this study, most victims received injuries on their heads. Ageing was considered to be one of the major factors causing fatal falls, and especially for males drinking habits also were influencing factors to cause fatal falls. Exponential relations between fatality rates and ages could be found in female trends.

日本では、戦後の税制の基礎となったシャウプ勧告で直接税中心主義が掲げられる。直接税は所得税と法人税であるが、シャウプ勧告では法人税については法人税を所得税の前取りと見なす法人擬制説の立場が示されたことから、基本的には所得税中心の税体系となった。個別間接税である物品税や相続税は所得税の補完と位置づけられた。1980年代の税制改革論では、「直間比率の是正」も大きなかけ声となり、物品税等の個別間接税に替えて一般的な間接税である消費税が導入される。税体系の中での間接税の比重は高まっているが、所得税は依然として重要な基礎税である。近年、配偶者控除などの控除制度のあり方を巡って、政府税制調査会でも集中的に議論が行われるようになった。

本稿は,若者の恋愛離れの非経済的要因として,恋人探しを先送りする行動に着目した。行 動経済学にもとづくアンケート調査と実験結果から,目先の気楽な独身生活を優先させて恋人探しを先送りしている未婚者が少なからずいることがわかった。また,恋愛を先送りしており,かつ,現在偏重型の者は,先送りしていることを自覚させられることにより恋愛においてより積極的になるという結果が得られた。これらの結果は,恋愛の先送り行動に関するさらなる研究の必要性を示唆している。

腹部超音波がん検診の精度を文献的に明らかにするとともに, 精度を明らかにする上での問題点について述べた。精度を示した文献を抽出するため, 医学中央雑誌WEB版とPubMedを利用するとともに, 日本消化器がん検診学会雑誌を閲覧した。抽出した文献ごとに, 感度, 特異度, 陽性反応適中度とその信頼区間を求めた。その結果, 腹部超音波がん検診の感度はおよそ80%, 特異度はおよそ95%, 陽性反応適中度は1~9%であった。文献によって腹部超音波がん検診の精度に差がある原因として, 人数の数え方, 対象臓器, 診断装置, 検者, 走査法, 検査時間, 記録法, 読影方法, 判定基準, 偽陰性の定義, 発見がんの定義が異なることがあげられ, その基準化が望まれる。また, 精度の把握方法も異なっており, 今後は, がん登録との照合が容易に行えるよう, わが国の地域がん登録の登録精度が向上することを期待したい。
