The nature of science (NOS) has become a priority in school science education worldwide and is currently considered essential for achieving a high level of scientific literacy. The present study analyzed and compared biology textbooks (molecular-biology related topics) used at the upper secondary level in Japan and Canada to determine whether NOS was sufficiently presented. This analysis showed that Canadian textbooks covered a much wider range of the NOS than Japanese textbooks. These findings also indicate that, in both countries, three NOS aspects (the empirical nature, the difference between observation and inference, and the cumulative and collaborative nature of scientific knowledge) were relatively well described, while two NOS aspects (the involvement of creativity and imagination and social and cultural embeddedness) occurred less. One of the striking differences between the two countries was the occurrence of theory-laden nature and subjectivity: It was well described in Canadian textbooks, but rarely found in Japanese textbooks. Overall analysis found that the degree of emphasis on each NOS aspect differed by country, and further suggested the importance of incorporating NOS acquisition into national curricula.

In the case that citizens participate in making plans of their own towns, there are two possibilities. One is participation in town planning conference and work shops which are prepared by local government, and the other is petition to local assembly. Especially song of city, citizen charter and city declaration are the important variation of citizen participation on the latter case. The purpose of this paper is to point out the importance of Wago, the words which have their origins in the ancient Japanese, as a premise of citizen participation about the case of citizen charters of Tokyo.

Since the law of city planning was revised in 1992, citizen participation in town planning has become active all over Japan. However citizen charter, which ought to be called the constitution of town planning, has never been studied enough in spite of including much possibility about the style of participation. The purpose of this study is to clarify the present condition of citizen charters in Japan and to consider its meaning in town planning through the view point of citizen participation.

女声のような高ピッチ音声の分析精度を改善することを目的として,線形予測分析・合成により線形予測残差(以下これを残差と呼ぶ)そのものを利用してピッチ周期を可変伸長処理し,ピッチ周期毎に窓を掛け波形を分離して,フレーム内の波形を一括線形予測分析する方法を既に提案している.この方法で残差そのものを利用可能にするのは,残差へのオールパスフィルタリング処理により,残差のピッチ周期毎への分離が残差のもつ有用な音声スペクトル包絡情報の一部に悪影響を及ぼすことなく容易に行えるためである.本論文では,この提案法について,オールパスフィルタのパラメータや'0'系列挿入位置等の種々の分析条件,声門開口比による分析精度を検討し,分析条件の制約が厳しくないことを示す.
