This study aimed to examine the relationship between corin expression and circulating brain natriuretic peptide in patients with left ventricular (LV) dysfunction.Circulating levels of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) can be an indicator of LV dysfunction. The 32-amino-acid BNP is cleaved by corin, a cardiac serine protease, from its108-amino-acid pro-brain natriuretic peptide (proBNP) precursor.This study included 25 patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP) and LV dysfunction and 44 heart transplant recipients with normal LV function who underwent diagnostic left and right heart catheterization. Blood samples were used to determine the ratio of plasma proBNP/BNP levels, and LV endomyocardial biopsies were used to determine the expression of NPPB, which encode BNP and corin, respectively, by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction.Patients with DCMP revealed worse hemodynamic profiles and higher plasma proBNP and BNP levels than those of the transplant recipients. Myocardial NPPB expression was higher and CORIN expression was lower in the DCMP patients than in the transplant recipients. CORIN expression significantly correlated with NPPB expression (r = −0.585; P < 0.001), ejection fraction (EF; r = 0.694; P < 0.01), LV end-diastolic pressure (r = −0.373; P < 0.05), and indexed end-diastolic LV volume (r = −0.452; P < 0.001). In addition, the plasma proBNP/BNP levels inversely correlated with the CORIN expression (r = −0.362; P < 0.005).Decreased myocardial CORIN expression and the corresponding higher levels of circulating unprocessed proBNP in DCMP may partly account for the relative BNP resistance observed in patients with LV dysfunction.

本研究は、動作前の自発的掛け声が局所および全身反応時間に及ぼす影響を観察し、自発的掛け声が神経・筋機能に与える影響について検討することを目的とした。局所反応動作におけるS反応動作およびF反応動作のEMG-RTは、absence試行に比較してpresence試行が有意に短縮した。IEMGについては、absence試行に比較してpresence試行が有意に増大した。全身反応時間については、EMG-RTは、absence試行に比較してpresence試行が有意に短縮した。EMD・動作時間・力積については、両条件間に有意な差が認められなかったが、平均発揮筋力はabsence試行に比較してpresence試行が有意に増大した値を示した。以上のことから、自発的掛け声は局所および全身の反応動作におけるEMG-RTを有意に短縮させるとともに、その後に続く筋力発揮にも作用をもつことが示唆され、このことについては自発的掛け声が網様体賦活系や大脳の運動準備電位の活動水準を上昇させる可能性のあることが考えられる。

本稿は、「デジタル・アーカイブ」ないし"digital archives" をめぐる日本内外の主要な論考を取り上げつつ、これらに関する日本内外の概念・考え方の「多様化」ないし「ズレ」を検証することを試みる。英語圏の"digital archives" については、「今いる人・人々の日々の業務や活動」、またそれを体現する「ボーン・デジタルの記録」に焦点を当てるか、あるいは「デジタル化された資料の集積(コレクション)に対してアクセスを提供するウェブサイト」を念頭に置くか、といった違いがある。日本の「デジタル・アーカイブ」はもっぱら後者に当たると言えるが、"digital heritage" "digital collection" といった関連概念も考慮する必要がある。The aim of this review article is to observe the diversification of the concept and definition of "digital archives," based on the concerned articles in Japan and abroad. In the English-speaking countries, mainly two opposite definitions of digital archives exist;(a)collection of born-digital records based on activities of people and organization, and(b)websites that provide access to collections of digitized materials. In Japan, especially those eager to policy promotion of digital archives stand for the definition of(b). In this situation, however, related concepts such as "digital heritage" and "digital collection" should be also considered.

Changes in viscosity of cocoa butter and chocolate during crystallization processes were measured by a rotational viscometer which was newly equipped in the present study. This viscometer facilitates a computerized tempering with agitation of the sample, yielding a torque of sample. The tempering process was a simple cooling of melt (60°C) to several crystallization temperatures. It was confirmed that the torque was linearly proportional to viscosity values obtained by Brookfield type viscometer. The viscosity changed through three different stages : First, the constant viscosity was attained after the crystallization temperature was reached. Second, the viscosity gradually increased due to early nucleation and crystal growth of solid fats. Third, a sharp increase of viscosity was caused by accelerated crystallization. The amount of crystallized fats in chocolate during the industrial-used tempering machine (60-27-30°C) was estimated about 0.17%, based on the viscosity changes examined by the present method.

The clock gene of <i>Drosophila</i> containing a hexamer repeat sequence (ACAGGC)n (period, <i>per</i>, repeat) is reported to be involved in the circadian rhythm. Young et al. (1985) cloned a mouse genomic DNA with the <i>per repeat</i> (cp2.2). In this study, temporal and spatial expression of <i>CP2.2F.</i> and <i>RB15</i> was examined in the adult rat brain by <i>in situ</i> hybridization. The former is a family of genes detected by using cp2.2 as a probe, and the latter is a gene corresponding to pRB15, one of the 11 rat brain cDNA recombinants homologous to cp2.2. Both genes were expressed in almost all neurons. Fluctuation of the genes under the light-dark cycle was apparently observed in the suprachiasmatic nucleus; an intensive hybridization signal in the middle of the day and a weak in the middle of the night (p<0.01). However, the signal stayed relatively constant in other brain regions. Expression of both genes was detected in some glial and ependymal cells in the day but few at night. The present findings suggest that <i>CP2.2F.</i> and <i>RB15</i> are involved in the circadian rhythm in the rat nervous system.

Five-day-old neonatal piglets presented with debilitation and ananastasia. At the necropsy of one piglet, the apex of the tongue was found to be discolored dark red, and disseminated white foci were found on the cut surface. Many white foci were also found in the lungs and on the serosa of the liver and spleen. Histopathological findings revealed multifocal necrotic glossitis and pneumonia with Gram-negative bacilli. The bacilli were identified as Actinobacillus suis through immunohistochemical, biochemical, and genetic tests, including 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Although A. suis usually causes inflammation in thoracic and abdominal organs, lesions were also found in the tongue in the present case. This study is the first report of glossitis caused by A. suis.
