Global simulations with 1.45 km grid-spacing are presented that were performed with the Integrated Forecasting System (IFS) of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Simulations are uncoupled (without ocean, sea-ice or wave model), using 62 or 137 vertical levels and the full complexity of weather forecast simulations including recent date initial conditions, real-world topography, and state-of-the-art physical parametrizations and diabatic forcing including shallow convection, turbulent diffusion, radiation and five categories for the water substance (vapour, liquid, ice, rain, snow). Simulations are evaluated with regard to computational efficiency and model fidelity. Scaling results are presented that were performed on the fastest supercomputer in Europe - Piz Daint (Top 500, Nov 2018). Important choices for the model configuration at this unprecedented resolution for the IFS are discussed such as the use of hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic equations or the time resolution of physical phenomena which is defined by the length of the time step. Our simulations indicate that the IFS model — based on spectral transforms with a semi-implicit, semi-Lagrangian time-stepping scheme in contrast to more local discretisation techniques — can provide a meaningful baseline reference for O(1) km global simulations.

眠気は, 午後に頻繁にみられる現象であり, これがいわゆるパフォーマンスにおける「昼食後の低下」を招いている。近年, 30分以下の短時間仮眠が日中の覚醒水準の維持にポジティブな効果を持つことが明らかにされてきた。これらの仮眠は徐波睡眠を含まないため, 起床直後の睡眠慣性は少ない。カフェインや高照度光, 音楽や洗顔, 自己覚醒法は, 睡眠慣性を低減するとともに, 短時間時間仮眠の効果を高めることが指摘されている。

On-line battle games reached a new stage. It is the movement of making a computer game sublimate for “sport”. It is called electronic sport, e -Sports. The leading parts of e -Sports are not a game manufacturer but players. Manufacturers don't have the initiative, but it is the age when a users' community chooses a game. e-Sport develops in America, Europe, South Korea, Taiwan. Even Japan may be so. It may influence not only a market but also culture, education, international relations.

Damage to direct-sown rice by th apple snail, Pomacea canaliculata, was investigated in two semi-field experiments using rain-free experimental plots (each 2 m2 in area). Four snails (2 snails/m2), with shell heights of approximately 19 mm or 24 mm, were released in the plots at the time of sowing When the plots were irrigated soon after sowing (0 or 4 days after sowing), the snails fed avidly on young seedlings and no plants became established Drainage after sowing greatly reduced snail damage. Eighty seven to 94% of plants as compared to the control plots without snails were established when plots were drained for two weeks. Three weeks of drainage could almost prevent damage by snails (95-99% of plant establishment) when the plant age was at about the 5.0 leaf stage. Snail damage was more severe when herbicide was applied. Water management after sowing in direct-seeded rice is discussed in view of reducing snail damage.

群馬県吾妻郡長野原町北軽井沢の戦後は、草軽電気鉄道に運輸営業の廃止を告げられることから始まる。北軽井沢地区は、草軽電鉄の沿線に位置し、同鉄道の開通後別荘地として開発されてきた。したがって、同鉄道の営業廃止は、北軽井沢地区にとっては死活にかかわる問題であった。長野原町は、北軽井沢地区発展の道を観光開発に求め、「草軽東急」(東急電鉄、東急観光、草軽電鉄)と協力して進めようとした。しかし、これに国土計画興業(前身は箱根土地、のちのコクド)が異を唱え、北軽井沢の観光開発は頓挫することになった。国土計画興業と東急資本は、軽井沢や箱根で観光開発をめぐって対立しており、それが北軽井沢にも持ち込まれたとみることができる。筆者は、北軽井沢の観光開発をめぐる長野原町と観光資本の動向を明らかにしようと考えているが、本稿はその概要を『長野原町報』の記事と長野原町役場所蔵の行政文書によって明らかにしようとするものである。

目的 環境負荷の少ないクリーンなエネルギーとして,風力発電の導入が先進国を中心に世界各国で進んでいる。一方で,風力発電施設からの低周波音・騒音に関して近隣住民の健康被害の訴えが報告されており,わが国においても風車騒音に係る基準やガイドライン策定の検討が行われている。そこで本研究では,今後,健康影響を考慮にいれた低周波音・騒音基準の設定を行う上で参考となる知見を明らかにすることを目的に,風力発電風車の近隣住民を対象にした疫学研究について文献レビューを実施した。方法 風力発電風車からの騒音に伴う健康影響に関する疫学研究論文を,PubMEDを用いて収集した。また最新の情報を収集するために関連国際学会Inter-Noise 2013, Wind Turbine Noise 2015の抄録からも追補的に情報を得た。抽出された疫学研究論文を研究デザイン,研究対象者,曝露評価,アウトカム,交絡要因および研究結果に関する情報別に整理しエビデンステーブルを作成した。結果 近隣住民を対象とした疫学研究として11件が抽出された(うち2件は国際学会抄録)。アウトカムとして,騒音の知覚(Perception),アノイアンス(Annoyance:騒音によるうるささ),ストレス,睡眠との関連が報告されていた。風車騒音とアノイアンス,主観的評価に基づく健康指標の間には統計的に有意な関連が繰り返し報告されていた。影響の大きさは,A特性音圧レベル1 dB増加あたりオッズ比1.1程度と2つの研究が報告していた。その他のアウトカムでは影響の大きさに関して研究間比較ができなかった。交絡因子として,風力発電への姿勢,景観に対する姿勢,風力発電からの経済的恩恵,風車の可視性,音への感受性,健康への懸念との影響が報告されていた。結論 風力騒音とアノイアンスについては,主観的評価に基づく健康指標の間には統計的に有意な関連が繰り返し報告されていた。ただし,アノイアンスが風力発電施設建設に対する心理的影響なのか,騒音曝露による心理的影響なのかについて,現状のエビデンスにおいてはその区別が明確にはつけられない状況であった。
