We compared clinical outcomes after ventral fixation in dogs with atlantoaxial instability (AAI) on the basis of the presence or absence of atlantooccipital overlapping (AOO). Of 41 dogs diagnosed with AAI and treated ventral fixation, 12 exhibited AOO (AOO group), whereas 29 did not (non-AOO group). The AOO group had significantly higher neurological scores before (P=0.024) and 1 month after (P=0.033) surgery compared with the non-AOO group; however, no significant differences were observed between the groups 2 months after surgery. The presence of complicating AOO affected the clinical signs for dogs with AAI, but did not directly affect the outcome of surgical stabilization of AAI.

A 14-year-old intact male West Highland White Terrier weighing 6.9 kg was admitted to the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology Animal Medical Center with the complaint of syncope after showing signs of nausea during feeding. Sinus arrest induced by deglutition was confirmed using a Holter electrocardiography test. However, the clinical symptoms significantly improved after implantation of a permanent pacemaker. Seven months after implantation, the dog died from acute pancreatitis, a cause unrelated to the syncope. Immediately after its death, the heart, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and other organs were dissected and examined histopathologically. The brain was also examined using magnetic resonance imaging. Examination results led to the diagnosis of swallowing-induced situational syncope.

高校化学の教科書では,サリチル酸を芳香族カルボン酸とフェノールの性質を共に持つ化合物として取り上げ,サリチル酸メチルとアセチルサリチル酸の二つの誘導体への反応とそれらの性質などについて学ぶ。どちらも非常に身近な医薬品であり教科書で扱われる有機化合物の中でも匂いやその作用がイメージしやすい有機化合物の代表的なものであろう。ここでは,それらの反応をもう少し詳しく考える。

Regio- and stereoselective synthesis of organoboron compounds has great importance due to their wide applicability and high stereospecificity in many transformations such as Suzuki-Miyaura cross coupling reaction. Generally, hydroboration of unactivated terminal alkenes proceeds in anti-Markovnikov selective manner to produce linear products. In this short review, recent examples of catalytic Markovnikov hydroboration of unactivated terminal alkenes, and its application to asymmetric synthesis are described.

近年の目標研究によって, 意識的な目標追求と非意識的な目標追求は, 同じような特徴や効果を持つことが明らかになっている。しかし, これら2つの目標追求が, どのような状況で, どのように異なるのかは明らかではない。本研究は, 抑制のパラダイムを用いて, 教示による意識的抑制と, 平等主義関連語をプライミングすることによる非意識的抑制との相違点を明らかにするために行われた。実験1では, 非意識的に行われる抑制においては, 意識的に行われる抑制に伴う弊害である抑制の逆説的効果が生じないことが示された。教示により外国人ステレオタイプの記述を避けた群は, 後続の課題で, かえってステレオタイプに即した印象形成を行うのに対し, 非意識的に抑制を行った群では, そのような印象形成は見られなかった。実験2では, 非意識的な抑制は, 意識的な抑制よりも効率的との想定を基に, 相対的に抑制に制御資源が消費されないだろうと予測された。抑制後に行われた自己評定においては, 意識的抑制群においてのみ, 強い疲弊感が報告されていたが, 後続のアナグラム課題においては, 意識的抑制群も非意識的抑制群も同様に課題遂行が阻害されており, 両群において消費される資源量には違いがないことが示された。抑制意図と行動, それに伴う意識の関係について論じる。

Active and passive tau immunization has been shown to attenuate phenotypes in tauopathy model mice. So far, two tau vaccines and three anti–tau monoclonal antibodies have been subjected to clinical trials for patients with Alzheimer's disease or progressive supranuclear palsy. In the present study, we developed new monoclonal antibodies to hyperphosphorylated tau for future clinical use. Selected antibodies to pSer413–tau (Ta1505) and to pSer396–tau (Ta4 and Ta9) were injected intraperitoneally into aged mouse models of tauopathy once a week at 0.1 or 1mg/shot 5 times. Ta1505 antibody significantly improved memory in a dose–dependent manner, while Ta4 and Ta9 antibodies showed less effect. The cognitive improvement paralleled a reduction in the levels of tau hyperphosphorylation, tau oligomer accumulation, synapse loss, neurofibrillary tangle formation, and neuronal loss. Furthermore, Ta1505 antibody displayed suppressive effects against not only tau hyperphosphorylation but also Aβ oligomer accumulation in a different, aged mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. These results indicate that pSer413 is a promising target in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies.

50歳,女性.2003年9月に全身性エリテマトーデス(systemic lupus erythematosus ; SLE)を発症.抗Sm抗体陽性.右水腎症.プレドニゾロン(prednisolone ; PSL)40 mg/日で治療開始.大腿骨頭壊死(2B),ステロイド精神病合併.2005年5月PSL15 mg/日まで漸減中に尿蛋白再出現でシクロスポリン(CyA)併用開始.1年後,嘔吐を伴う激しい頭痛を繰り返したが画像診断上は異常を認めなかった.2007年2月タクロリムス(TAC)に変更,頭痛は消失したが,同年9月頃より左優位の巧緻性運動障害,振戦,小刻み歩行等を認めた.2009年6月ドーパミントランスポーターのイメージング(DAT)検査にてパーキンソン病(Parkinson's disease ; PD)確定診断.遺伝子解析で孤発性PDと判明.TAC中止によりParkinsonismは一部改善し,薬剤性が示唆された.TAC投与中のSLE患者に振戦を認めた場合,Parkinsonism誘発の可能性があるため減量や中止を考慮すべきである.
