In the present study, the influence of the long-term use of air-conditioning in summer on the cortisol rhythm was examined by measuring the rhythm in subjects who had been exposed to air-conditioning for a short [S] or long [L] time. Investigations were conducted twice in July and September. Atmospheric temperature and relative humidity near the subjects were measured for three days in each season. Saliva samples for cortisol analysis were collected every 2 hours during the daytime beginning at 8:00 h with subsequent sampling times at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00 h. A questionnaire on sleep and duration of air-conditioning use was also undertaken. Ambient mean temperature was higher in the S group (mean±SD; 30.8±1.2°C in July, 28.0±0.8°C in September) than in the L group (28.0±1.2°C in July, 27.3±1.0°C in September) (p<0.01), while mean relative humidity did not differ. There were no differences in bedtime, waking time and sleeping hours either between groups or months. Diurnal patterns of salivary cortisol rhythm in July and September were similar in the S group, but the L group had a delayed rise of morning cortisol secretion in September compared with July. These results suggest that long-term exposure to an air-conditioned environment might adversely affect the human cortisol rhythm.

“KAZINOKI” “KÔZO” and “TURU-KÔZO”, the material for making KÔZO-paper, Shifu-fabric etc., are quite different species of the moraceous genus Broussonetia, but generally they are called together by one Japanese name “KÔZO” [_??_] among the Japanese paper-makers, foresters and cultivators. I made a brief sketch on these three species of Broussonetia from the morphological and the taxonomical standpoints and also attempted to introduce concisely their various vernacular names for those who have interest in “KôZO”. This paper aims to introduce the whole life of Chiune Sugihara. In 1939, he was sent by the Japanese government to Kaunas, Lithuania, to open a consulate. In the summer of 1940, thousands of Polish Jews came to the Japanese consulate and begged Sugihara for transit visas to escape from Poland through the Soviet Union to Japan. Although the Japanese government did not agree to Sugihara's intentions, consul Sugihara did issue the visas to save Jews. So these visas are called "VISAS FOR LIFE." This is a well known historical story. However, few Japanese know that Sugihara was baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church, when he lived in Harbin. Consequently, special attention is paid to his Christian faith in this paper. Jewish Proverb states "If you save the life of one person, it is as if you saved the world entire."

魚貝類から分離したウェルシュ菌 (辺野喜の基準) の耐熱性あるいはHobbs型と, 生化学的性質とくにサリシン発酵能との関係を検討し, つぎの結果を得た.1) 分離ウェルシュ菌198株のうち48株はサリシン発酵陽性であった. 耐熱性 (100°, 60分) 株では分離15株のうち11株がサリシン発酵陽性であった. また同発酵陽性株の検出率は加熱 (80°, 20分) 検体分離株中で高く (65%), 無加熱検体分離株中で低かった (16%).2) サリシン発酵陽性分離株のHobbs型に対する一致率は25%にすぎなかったが, 同発酵陰性分離株のそれ (13%) に比べると高かった. Hobbsの各抗原型とサリシン発酵能との関連は見られなかった.

Iron ores and mineral spring water from Gumma Iron Mine were examined mainly by TEM. Biomineralization was found on diatom and bacteria in the spring water, and also on living moss. Aggregates of cyanobacteria-like fossils were found in some iron ore which is composed of goethite and jarosite. They were examined by EPMA and TEM (lattice imaging). The formation mechanism of iron ore was discussed and biogenic contribution to the ore formation was suggested.

歯科分野においてIT(情報)化の推進を効率よく効果的に進めていくためには,歯科医師のIT化に関する意識を把握し,その状況に応じたIT化を計画的に進めていく必要がある. そこで,本論文では,愛知県の歯科医師に対しIT化に関する意識実態調査を実施し,とくに,情報機器の利用状況,歯科診療所のIT化に関する意識状況,および,歯科医師会事務局のIT化を分析テーマとして今後のIT化に向けて考察を行うとともに,調査結果からシステム工学的な立場でIT化推進に向けての課題を述べている. この調査結果から,①歯科診療所のIT化の必要性の認識は,歯科医師が高齢になるほど低くなる,②歯科診療所のIT化の目的あるいは期待される効果として,サービス内容の充実を重視している,および,③歯科医師会事務局のIT化の必要性の認識は,役員の方が非役員に比べて高い,等がわかった.

<p>バングラデシュ・クルナ市では,「ウエイスト・ピッカー」と呼ばれるインフォーマルセクターの労働者が街のごみ集積場や最終処分場で有価廃棄物を収集し生計を立てている。手袋や長靴を身につけない人が多いため, 彼らの約70%は皮膚そう痒の疾患を患っている。彼らの労働衛生の環境改善に関する必要性は指摘されてきたが,能力向上を図るための衛生教育は十分でない。そこで,本研究では彼らの衛生教育の必要性と教材開発の内容に関する方向性を考察した。その結果,視覚教材開発や体験学習を通じて,「ごみ」,「安全管理」,「健康」の視点から,彼らの生活環境やメンタルケアを含めた教育の重要性が認識された。</p>
