GALA (GAnymede Laser Altimeter) is one of the payload instruments of the JUICE (JUpiter ICy moons Explorer) project to be launched in 2022 to the Jovian icy moons Ganymede, Europa, and Callisto. GALA is developed through an international collaboration between Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and Spain. With the performance model of GALA, we have sought to create the interface conditions that satisfy the science requirements on the probability of false detection (PFD) and the range accuracy. The science requirements on GALA performance can be summarized as involving the following four criteria: [1] for Europa fly-by, PFD is less than 0.2 from an altitude of 1300 km or lower, [2] under the worst observation condition for albedo and surface slope of GCO500 (Ganymede Circular Orbit whose height is 500 km), the accuracy of ranging is less than 10 m and PFD is less than 0.2, [3] under the nominal observation condition of GCO500, the accuracy of ranging is less than 2 m and PFD is less than 0.1, and [4] under the best observation condition of GCO500, the accuracy of ranging is less than 1 m and PFD is less than 0.1. For the assessment, however, we had used literature data as the characteristics of the laser detector of GALA, avalanche photodiode (APD), which should be degraded due to the severe radiation environment around Jupiter. Then we carried out a more realistic model simulation of GALA by incorporating these degradation effects of APD. Characteristics of APD, such as gain, quantum efficiency, excess noise index, surface dark current, and bulk dark current, were re-evaluated through radiation tests using the data of dark and photo current of the APD irradiated with 2-MeV-electron and 50-MeV-proton beams, which are the radiation conditions assumed for JUICEGALA around Jupiter. These degraded characteristics of APD by radiation were introduced to our performance model of GALA. As a result, our performance simulation of GALA showed again that the science requirements are satisfied even after taking into account the degraded characteristics of APD. The remaining matter is the effect of noise or digitization in the Analog Electronics Module (AEM), which must be taken into account for the final specifications of GALA.

Among persons who have thought about the old capital at Nagaoka (784-794, the capital directly preceeding the one at Kyoto and to the south-west of modern Kyoto), there have been some who believed that the fact that in its center an ancient flood plain extended from north to south and that in its southeast quadrant there was a wet depression was an important reason for abandoning it. Having myself personally walked over the sites of the capitals which succeeded one another after the Taika Reform, 646 A.D., at Naniwa, Asuka, Otsu, Fujiwara, Heijo, Kuni, Heian, I have thought upon the natural conditions peculiar to the founding of the capitals.The first one was built along the upper reaches of the Asuka River where floods were few, and the later capitals gradually moved down toward broad plains and to wide slopes giving way to the southward. Still it is clear that the imperial palace which was the center of these capitals always stood upon an eminence or on the slope of one. And as their populations grew sites abundant in sail and water resources were looked upon with faver as capitals. As a result I perceived that Nagaoka with its hillock must have been a rather desirable site. I found, too, that the damp bottoms in its southeast were not in the old times flooded as much as people think. Therefore, I think it is not suitable to say that Nagaoka was abondoned because its site was disadvantageous.

20 世紀型の総合商社は死んだ。言葉をかえれば従来どおりの発想、意思決定、行動を続けるかぎり、総合商社は21 世紀を生き抜いていくことはできない。なぜなら、そういう存在に対して21 世紀の世界の経済社会は価値を認めないからである。それでは総合商社に明日はないのか。もちろんある。それは一口でいえばみずからを「取引仲介業」から「情報仲介業」に根本的に変質させることである。そこでは事業も取引もすべて情報という価値基準に基づいて分類、整理され、評価される。総合商社は業法に縛られた規制業種ではなかった。それゆえに、国内的な規制の枠組みではなく、国際的なパースペクティブの中で持続的成長を少なくともバブル崩壊までは実現してきた。その意味では、ビッグバンの時代に入れば、当然のごとく総合商社の活動範囲が飛躍的に拡大し、21 世紀の日本のリーディング・インダストリーになることすら期待されたのであったが、現実の姿はそれとはほど遠く、未来への展望も十分に拓けていない状況にある。何故、総合商社は未来に向っての展望を拓き、新しいビジネス社会の創出に手間取っているのだろうか。

爪白癬81例(81爪)について, 塩酸ブテナフィンクリーム(ボレークリーム®)ODTによる治療効果を検討した。58例について結果が得られ, うち有効45例(77.6%), 悪化1例(1.7%)であった。副作用と思われる症状は2例にみられ, いずれも局所の刺激症状であった。塩酸ブテナフィンクリームODTによる爪白癬の治療は, 抗真菌剤内服不能の爪白癬患者に対する選択肢のひとつになりうると考えた。

2011年3月11日の東北地方太平洋沖地震は,モーメントマグニチュード(Mw)9.0の超巨大地震であった。このため,本震直後からマグニチュード7を越える余震が頻発し,3月11日15:15には茨城県沖を震源とする最大余震(気象庁マグニチュード(Mj)7.6)が発生し,4月7日23:32には本論の研究対象であるMj7.2(Mw7.1)の余震が発生した。 本震で大災害が発生していた東北地方は,4月7日の余震で再び大きな災害が発生し,岩手県南部の奥州市と一関市で多数の家屋被害が発生した。この家屋被害で疑問とされるのは,第一に3月11日の本震で大きな被害を受けなかった地域が余震でなぜ大きな被害を受けたのか,第二に岩手県南部の家屋被害がなぜ奥州市前沢区などに集中して発生したのか,という点である。4月7日の余震における地震動の卓越周期は,木造家屋を倒壊させる1 ~ 2秒の周期ではなく,1秒以下の周期であった。この周期の地震動は,屋内の家具や置物を倒すような揺れである。それにもかかわらず,前沢区では多数の家屋被害が集中して発生したのである。 本論は,2011-2012年度の奥州市と岩手大学間の共同研究として,上記の第二の問題の解決を目指して行った調査研究の結果をまとめたものである。本研究の成果は,奥州市の今後のまちづくりに反映されることが期待されている。本調査研究は,具体的には,奥州市前沢区の構造物の被災調査から地震動の特性を明らかにすること,家屋被害が集中して発生した原因を立地する地形と地質条件から明らかにすることを目的としている。次章で,まず,奥州市前沢区の家屋被害の実態を述べる。

Background:The purpose of this study was to clarify the implementation rate of multidisciplinary heart failure (HF) care and cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in Japan, as well as the relationship between implementation rates and characteristics of the facility.Methods and Results:Survey participants were cardiologists who are members of the Japan Heart Failure Society and belonged to 1 of 845 medical institutions that are members of the Japan Heart Failure Society, as of April 2016. A total of 288 institutions (34.1%) returned the questionnaire. The percentages of hospitals implementing multidisciplinary HF care were 78.5% for inpatients and 32.6% for outpatients with HF. Inpatient and outpatient CR for HF had implementation rates of 80.4% and 56.5%, respectively. In addition, very few HF patients (7.3%, 3,741/51,323 patients) received outpatient CR. Both the presence of nurses certified in chronic HF care and registered CR instructors on staff were consistently associated with implementation of multidisciplinary HF care, and Japanese Circulation Society training hospitals, lower number of hospital beds, and presence of registered CR instructors on staff were consistently associated with implementation of CR.Conclusions:This first nationwide survey demonstrated that the implementation rates of multidisciplinary care and CR for HF, especially for outpatients, are low in Japan. Skilled healthcare professionals are expected to play important roles in the widespread implementation of this type of HF care in Japan.

The Niigata earthquake of June 16, 1964. (M8=7.5) is studied using a body-wave inversion technique on teleseismic P waveforms of the mainshock and a joint hypocenter determination of 27 of the largest (MJMA≥4.0) regionally recorded aftershocks. The mainshock is interpreted as being composed of two subevents with moments of 2.1×1026 dyn-cm and 2.0×1027 dyn-cm. The focal mechanism indicates that faulting could have occurred on either a plane dipping toward the west or a plane dipping toward the east. The initial subevent is located at a depth of 8 to 13 km, while the centroid of the second sub-event is located 27 km southwest of the first and at a depth of 3 km. The relocated aftershocks all appear to have depths of less than 15 km which is consistent with the depths obtained for the mainshock. They appear to define a trend dipping shallowly toward the east which is consistent with the relative locations of the two subevents comprising the mainshock. We conclude, therefore, that a fault plane dipping toward the east is more consistent with the relative locations of the two subevents and the relocations of the aftershocks.
