The pioneering activities on the Hojyo Dunes, Tottori Prefecture, came about due to the abundant cultivation of cotton and colza that took place during the Edo period. This changed to the cultivation of mulberry with the advent of the Meiji period because of the importation of cotton from foreign countries. This Dune area was irrigated using a small artificial pond known as the beach well and it was used to draw up subterranean water it came to be called the "Wife-killer beach well" because of the intense labor it required. In the 1950's the government provided this area with irrigation facilities. With these government sponsored policies and advances in farming technologies it became possible to cultivate items such as grapes, tomatoes, melons, eddo potatoes and leeks that could be used to make monetary profit in the market in addition to more traditional crops of sweet potatoes, shallots and watermelons. Farming in this desert area, which demanded that fields be treated with artificial measures due the lack of water created a state of affairs where there had to be a switchover to growing crops that were profitable and in demand in the marketplace along with the implementation of modern irrigation techniques. This resulted in advancing cooperation simultaneous with the development of large scale management that exceeded the range of the then existent traditional community. And thus, with the introduction of modern irrigation facilities along with the elimination of excessive labor connected with the Wife-killer beach well, we also see the development of communal farming and the sharing of production and distribution activities in the area and other areas as well as the advancement of usage regulations involving water used for agricultural purposes. With this, there also rapidly came into existence, a large-scale form of agricultural management concerned with the renting and leasing of land.

ゲームの開発におけるレベル調整を簡単化することを目的として,人間のプレーヤの代わりに複数種類のA.I.にゲームをプレイさせ,多数のプレイ結果を元にそのゲームの難易度と面白さを自動的に評価する手法を提案する.

Objective The Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster forced the evacuation of residents and led to many changes in the lifestyle of the evacuees. A comprehensive health check was implemented to support the prevention of lifestyle-related disease, and we analyzed changes in lipid metabolism before and after these disasters. Methods Subjects included Japanese men and women living near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture. Annual health checkups, focusing on metabolic syndromes, were conducted for persons ≥40 years of age by the Heath Care Insures. Results A total of 27,486 subjects underwent a follow-up examination after the disaster, with a mean follow-up of 1.6 years. Following the disaster, the prevalence of hypo-high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterolemia increased significantly from 6.0% to 7.2%. In the hypo-HDL cholesterolemia group, the body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, and LDL-C level increased significantly in men after the disaster. On the other hand, in the normal HDL-C level group, the BMI, blood pressure, glucose and lipid metabolism, and liver function were adversely affected. The decrease in HDL-C was significantly greater in evacuees than non-evacuees in the normal HDL-C level group. Furthermore, a multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the evacuation was significantly associated with the incidence of hypo-HDL cholesterolemia. Conclusion This is the first study to evaluate how the evacuation affected the incidence of hypo-HDL cholesterolemia and led to an increase in cardiovascular disease. This information may be important in the follow-up and lifestyle change recommendations for evacuees.

ボサノバ、ルンバなどの多くのリズムパターンに潜む周期をウォルシュ変換によるウォルシュスペクトルで推定した。それらに共通のスペクトルや周期を持つリズムパターンが見出された。ウォルシュ変換の逆変換プロセスにシミュレーションを適用して、特定の周期をもつリズムパターンを生成した。ポピュラー音楽などの広いジャンルで用いられるリズムパターンが得られた。The rhythms such as bossa nova and rumba have characteristic cyclical patterns. Walsh transform was applied to the binary data from the rhythms to estimate the length of cycle. The rhythms with common Walsh spectrum and cycle was found out. The simulation study was applied to the inverse transform, and the rhythms with the cycles was generated. The rhythms mainly used in popular music was obtained.

周波数利用効率を向上させる一方法としてダイナミックチャネル割当(DCA)が検討されている.ランダムにチャネルを検索し最初にCIR関値を満たすチャネルを選択する自律分散DCAを用いる場合,干渉の発生が問題となる.本報告では,CIR計算時の所望波レベル上限値の設定による干渉率の低減方法を提案する.

シャコ類の巣穴に共生することで知られているDivariscintilla属(ヨーヨーシジミ属,和名新称)の新種が,大分県から発見された。これは同属の日本及び北太平洋からの初めての記録である。Divariscintilla toyohiwakensis n. sp.ニッポンヨーヨーシジミ(新種,新称)殻長約4 mm,殻高約3 mm,膨らみは弱く,丸い亜三角形で,殻頂は僅かに前方に寄り,腹縁中央はごく僅かに窪む。白色半透明,薄質で,殻表は平滑で光沢があり,殻の内側には縁部で強まる多くの放射条がある。両殻に1主歯があり,側歯を欠く。外套膜は殻を覆い,前部に2対,後部に1対と1本の外套触角がある。口の直下の内蔵塊前部に1個のflower-like organ(花状器官:和用語新称)を備える。足は前部・後部に分かれ,後部は顕著に伸張し,その後端背面にbyssal adhesive gland(足糸粘着腺:和用語新称)があるが,組織切片では腺構造は確認できなかった。足の底面にはbyssal groove(足糸溝)が前部から後端まで走っている。フロリダ産のDivariscintilla octotentaculata Mikkelsen & Bieler, 1992に,殻や軟体外形が近似するが,D. octotentaculataは触角が1対多く,花状器官を欠く。ニッポンヨーヨーシジミは,Acanthosquilla acanthocarpus (Claus, 1871) シマトラフヒメシャコの巣穴中に小集団を形成して生息し,その壁面に足糸で付着している。タイプ産地:大分県中津市大新田付記:ヨーヨーシジミ属は,ニュージーランド・西オーストラリアに1種,フロリダ・カリブ海に5種,日本に1種が分布するが,いずれもトラフシャコ上科の種の巣穴に生息し,同上科との生態・進化上の密接な関係が示唆される。種小名toyohiwakensisは,タイプ産地の大分県中津市を含む豊前・豊後地方の古名「豊日別」に由来する。属・種の和名は,玩具のヨーヨーのように足糸でぶら下がり上下する生態に着目して命名されたDivariscintilla yoyo Mikkelsen & Bieler, 1989と,そこから派生した英名yoyo clamに由来する。D. yoyoには,ヨーヨーシジミの和名を与える。

We have been developing a thermo-key system that segments human regions from video in real-time using thermal information. We developed a new segmentation method for this system based on Bayesian estimation, which uses both chroma and thermal information integratively. Segmentation algorithms were previously based on a simple threshold processing of thermal images, which often results in wrong segmentation of objects/environments whose temperatures are close to body temperature. Trained with only a few sets of chroma and thermal images, our algorithm can extract human regions from video with much higher accuracy compared to previous algorithms.
