15種の香辛料粉末の80%エタノール抽出物についてヒト白血病細胞の増殖抑制率を調べた。(1) タイム,ナツメグ,スターアニス,クローブ,トウガラシ,ターメリック,ジンジャー,ガーリック,シナモン,ブラックペーパー,オールスパイス,ローズマリー,セージ,ローレルの抽出物のうち200μg/mlの濃度で80%以上の細胞増殖抑制率を示したものはタイム,ナツメグ,クローブ,ターメリック,ジンジャー,シナモン,ブラックペーパー,ローズマリー,クミン,ローレルであった。これらの香辛料抽出物の50μg/ml濃度で細胞増殖抑制率が70%以上のものはナツメグ,ターメリック,シナモン,ブラックペーパー.ローズマリー,セージ,ローレルであった。香辛料抽出物の10μg/ml濃度でターメリックは100%,ローレルは95%の高い細胞増殖抑制率を示したのに対して,他のものはいずれも50%以下であった。(2) 細胞増殖抑制率の高かったターメリックとローレルの抽出物の作用機構としてDNA断片化が観察され,アポトーシス誘導によるものと推定した。

Although in clinical dentistry the major method used for pain relief is oral administration of analgesics, alternative methods are available, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), acupuncture, vibration and conditioned pain modulation (CPM), formerly termed diffuse noxious inhibitory control. The aim of the present study was to investigate the combined effects of non-noxious (TENS) and noxious (CPM) stimuli on postoperative pain after extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth. The study involved 44 patients who were scheduled to undergo impacted wisdom tooth extraction. The patients were randomly allocated into four groups: noxious stimuli, non-noxious stimuli, combined noxious and non-noxious stimuli, and a sham group. On the day after tooth extraction, stimulation procedures for pain relief were performed and changes in the level of perceived pain were scored using a visual analog scale (VAS). The combination of non-noxious and noxious stimuli decreased the VAS scores by 63.7%, indicating a more potent analgesic effect than that in the non-noxious, noxious, and sham groups. This method of analgesia using a combination of non-noxious and noxious stimuli can be applied to patients who are unable to tolerate analgesics, such as those with allergy, hypersensitivity or digestive disorders, and those who are pregnant.

花火ショーの演出作業において,花火師は花火の打ち上げ位置,タイミングや音楽との同期などの多くの要素を決定する必要がある.しかし従来,花火師は危険性や金銭的なコストの問題から演出結果を視覚的に確認することができず,演出作業を円滑に行うことが困難であった.そこで,本研究では,効率のよい演出作業を実現するための花火演出支援システムを提案する.ユーザは計算機を用いて打ち上げ位置,花火の種類,打ち上げタイミング,音楽といった情報を入力し,演出作業を行う.演出結果は入力されたデータに沿って,花火の実写映像を利用して計算機上でシミュレートされ,モニタやHMD上に可視化される.これによって,花火師は効率よく作業を進めることが可能となる.

Foraging efficiency of ant colony is studied along the idea of strategy of errors. Strategy of errors is a seemingly-paradoxical group-tactics proposed by Deneubourg, meaning that errors of individual ants in following trail pheromone, rather, increase the efficiency of pheromone-mediated group foraging. In this paper, we first explain the basic idea of strategy of errors, thereafter, extend Deneubourg's original model to entrain more realistic processes. Through numerical calculations of the present model, we obtain two results: i) there are cases where non-uniform (element-dependent) distribution of the degree of errors in an ant colony enables the colony to make an optical foraging, ii) according to the variation of food-supplying environment, a transition of the optimal distribution of errors from the non-uniform distribution to the uniform distribution takes place. These results indicate that the idea of strategy of errors has a more scalability than that originally considered.
