The separation unit, separation factor, total flow in separation system, energy requirement, and second wastes by separation for recycling system have been studied theoretically. Theoretical equationsof separation unit, and height of separation unit were introduced and it was pointed that the total flow in the separation unit was proportional inversely to the separation factor by two powers and the amount of the second waste materials is proportional to the factor. The second waste materials and the energy consumption should be considered in the aspect of the environmental assessment. The physical term and the social term have to be divided for the recycling separation more definitely than for the ordinal separation process.

In a competitive swimming race event, the back plate can be placed on the starting block. Although the back plate has different setting positions, the effect of the plate position on start performance has not yet been clarified. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the back plate position on the kick-start performance of competitive swimmers. Six male swimmers dived from an instrumented starting block that contained two force plates and force sensors to measure the reaction forces exerted by the hands and front and rear feet. Four high-speed cameras were used to obtain kinematic data on the swimmers. The horizontal take-off velocity of the front plate position resulted in a better outcome than the back plate position (p<0.05). In the front plate position, a longer rear foot contact time generated a large impulse, and swimmers were able to achieve a higher take-off velocity. To generate a larger impulse, the contact time on the starting block needed to be longer. However, swimmers were able to achieve a higher take-off velocity using the front plate position without extending the block time. In this manner, the front plate position did not affect the time on the block. Moreover, different setting positions of the back plate influenced the joint angle of the postural set before the starting signal. Differences in the joint angle led to an increase in the horizontal component of the force impulse of the rear leg. Therefore, revealing the relationship between the joint angle of the postural set and start performance would provide detailed information on the optimum start posture for swimmers, including the plate position.

The basic program of general education of engineers is based on European culture from the times of ancient Greece to the 20th century. However, when considering its results, such as colonialism and the World Wars, this system can be said to lack the most important goal of “culture,” which is “to accept the existence of others.” In particular, the cooperation of European culture and engineering has ravaged the weaker cultures and is currently causing severe environmental problems in nature. Therefore, when considering the general education of engineers, it is indispensable to doubt European scholarship and to analyze what is lacking in current Japanese educational programs. Then, it is desirable that the relationship between the mind and the body, the characteristics of the Japanese climate, and the essence of Japanese artisanship be taken into consideration. It may also be beneficial to study the Ainu culture for its qualities as a peaceful culture.

The purpose of this study was to examine gross anatomy of the suprascapular nerve using 20 cadavers (14 male and 6 female), with special reference to the anomalous branch to the supraspinatus muscle and funicular pattern in the scapular notch. The branch to the supraspinatus muscle did not ramify proximal to the scapular notch, whereas the suprascapular artery passed under the superior transverse scapular ligament in 17.5% of the cadavers. Fourty percent of the scapular notches were type II by the classification of Rengachary. There was no adhesion between the suprascapular nerve and superior transverse scapular ligament which varied in size and toughness; the inferior transverse scapular ligament was, however, thin in 72.5%. Pseudoneuromas found just proximal to the superior transverse scapular ligament had no correlation with supraspinatus and infraspinatus muscle atrophy, which were not remarkable. The branch to the supraspinatus muscle superomedial in the scapular notch were located just below the superior transverse scapular ligament where friction neuritis was said to be occasionally seen. The present findings suggest that infraspinatus muscle atrophy is caused by suprascapular entrapment neuropathy at the spinoglenoid notch rather than at the scapular notch.

COPD(慢性閉塞性肺疾患)およびARDS(急性呼吸器窮迫症候群)患者に対する栄養管理の必要性が徐々に注目されるようになってきた.そこで,これまでの患者の予後およびQOL改善に関する栄養管理のエビデンスについて評価した.その結果,n-3多価不飽和脂肪酸(n-3PUFA)投与により,COPD患者の運動機能の低下,乳酸産生の増加,クレアチンリン酸の低下を示し,またARDS患者の死亡率や新規臓器不全の減少,ICU期間や人工呼吸を必要とする期間を短縮させた.今後は,n-3 PUFAのCOPDおよびARDSに対する効果をさらに検証していくことが重要と思われる.

Not only in Japan but also in other countries, there are some case studies in the museum using virtual reality and augmented reality technologies. Based on this trend, Toppan Printing Co., Ltd. developed Toppan VR which a method to show digital archive data, and have organized the Museum Theater with Tokyo National Museum (Tohaku). This research designed a service on The Great Map of Japan (Inouzu) in order to expand the user experience in the museum as well as to solve some issues extracted through operational experiences. This service designed 4 touch points on Inouzu, an interactive map viewer, a VR movie "Map of Japan created by Ino Tadataka" at Museum Theater, a workshop on pace countings, Special exhibition "Map of Japan created by Ino Tadataka" at Heiseikan Thematic Exhibition Room, and aligned them. As a result of the evaluation tests, this service changed passive experiences on the Museum Theater to more subjective experiences, and achieved more effective linkage between the Museum Theater and the exhibition.
