Field surveys were conducted in bedrooms to investigate the relationship between the environment and sleep quality. Sleep efficiency was relatively low when the average CO2 gas concentration at sleep was low which may be due to the high noise level. The percentage of wake-after-sleep-onset was the lowest under thermally neutral.

Air-conditioners are going to be set up in public elementary schools. The installation rate reached 64% in Tokyo 23 wards in 2007. The increase of energy consumption is a concern as air-conditioner use spreads all over the country. In this study, the forecast of energy consumption until 2030 is illustrated. This is calculated by forecasting the number of classes in which air-conditioners have been installed and the air-conditioning load in each 47 prefectures. In addition, the energy-saving measures such as natural ventilation and Low-e glass are accounted. It is possible to reduce energy consumption to the level of 1990 by 2030, when all the measures and improvement in COP of air-conditioner are taken.

The objects of this study are to observe the detailed distribution of air velocity and CO_2 (carbon dioxide) concentration which is used as tracer gas of coughed air and to calculate advance conditions concerning droplet dispersion counting on relative humidity and pressure. The full scale chamber where the experiment was conducted was modeled and then the experimental conditions were input. The elaborative mock was achieved. The results of CFD illustrated the high CO_2 concentration area and many tiny droplets were observed near the medical doctor. Hence the infection risk was still high when the medical doctor moves.

The globalization of people and things results in the short average distance of the networks and emerging infectious disease can spread immediately after the development in this world. Thus, preventive infection control measures are important. The infection risk should be evaluated to adopt effective infection control measures. In this study, the cough machine that can generate human-like cough to evaluate the infection risk in indoor environments were developed to evaluate infection risk. The cough expired volume, travel distance, velocity, total mass of droplets, and particle size distribution of the droplets of the cough machine were compared with the subject experimental data. The deposition of droplet on facial mucous membranes, such like eyes and a mouth, at various distances and horizontal surfaces at different heights were measured using the cough machine and thermal manikin. It was shown that the number of droplet deposited on the position of facial mucous membranes decrease drastically over 90 cm when the infected person and susceptible person faced each other. On horizontal surfaces, the droplet deposited most at 50-60 cm and more than 90% of the droplet deposited within 90 cm. The number of droplet deposited on the surface under 50%RH condition was larger than that under 30%RH condition. The effect of relative humidity was larger on the near surface because the propagation time is shorter than it takes to deposit on the distant far-surface. We provide experimental evidence to evaluate droplet and contact infection risk that enable to address a question of the relative importance of each infection route.

Partial insulation retrofitting is an effective method for improving thermal insulation in existing houses as its construction cost is lower than that of total insulation retrofitting. This study aimed to clarify the actual conditions of the thermal environment in partially insulated retrofitted houses in summer and winter. Furthermore, the size of insulated areas and heating methods were examined from perspective of energy consumption and health. Field surveys on indoor environments were conducted in an actual partially insulated retrofitted house in Chiba prefecture. Subsequently, we show the effects of different insulation areas and heating methods on energy consumption and health.

本研究では、冬季暖房時の室内温熱環境が皮膚水分量と熱的快適性に及ぼす影響を把握することを目的として被験者実験を行った。実験では、人工気候室内の床暖房室とエアコン暖房室において、空気温度と相対湿度を各3条件設定し、皮膚水分量、皮脂量、皮膚温の測定および心理量の申告を行った。実験の結果、皮膚水分量は相対湿度、絶対湿度および空気温度が高くなるほど増加するが、エアコン暖房では熱的中立を超えた範囲で皮膚水分量が減少に転じることが分かった。

To investigate the effect of thermal environment and the ventilation rate on productivity, a subjective experiment was conducted. The conditions were the combination of thermal environment: operative temperature of 25.5°C and 28.5°C; and the ventilation rate: 11m3/(h•p) and 90m3/(h•p). Eleven subjects participated in a 350min exposure and worked on three-digit multiplication tasks for 180min. The percentage of dissatisfied with air quality was higher in the higher temperatures and in the lower ventilation rates. The performance of the task was not significantly different among the conditions. The increase of the level of fatigue was more in the higher temperature condition. Correlation between the percentage of dissatisfied derived from perceived air quality and the fatigue level was obtained. The relationships of the task performance and the satisfaction vote of the indoor environment and the level of fatigue were obtained.

主な感染経路の1つである接触感染に関して、公共空間では不特定多数の人々が多くの環境表面を共用するため、手指の顔面接触による感染経路を調査することは有用である。本研究では、模擬電車内における顔面接触頻度を計測し、顔面接触行動に影響を与える要素を分析した。統計解析の結果、女性と比較して男性の顔面接触頻度および粘膜面接触頻度が有意に高かった。また、電車利用後に手指衛生を実施しないと回答した人ほど粘膜面接触頻度が高い傾向がみられた。

寝室内環境が睡眠に及ぼす影響の調査のため、窓の開閉条件を設定した自宅寝室における睡眠実測調査を行った。睡眠の評価は脳波計を用い、睡眠前後のアンケート調査も行った。結果として、窓開け条件で睡眠の質が向上し、良い寝室内空気質が睡眠を改善する可能性が示された。さらに、音環境、温熱環境、空気質が睡眠に与える複合影響を調査するため、マルチレベル分析を行った。

人体体温調節モデルJOS-2を用い、暑熱環境における熱中症リスクを評価した。はじめに、夏季屋外にて被験者実験を行い、実験で得られた生理量データをもとにJOS-2の予測精度を検証した。次に、都市における代表的な暑熱環境適応策をいくつか取り上げ、適応策による熱中症リスクの低減効果を、JOS-2の生理量予測値を用いて、代謝量別に検討した。

Semi-outdoor environment is defined as a grade of environmental control in thermal environmental planning, falling in between indoor and outdoor environment. Thermal adaptation of occupants, together with building and equipment, needs to be taken into account for planning such environment. Behavioral and psychological adaptation was found to be influential on thermal comfort, and context of thermal environment was found to be important to understand the adaptive process from literature review. Environmental context was categorized into social, architectural, and personal elements. A concept model of adaptive thermal comfort in semi-outdoor environment was proposed. Problems concerning application of existing thermal comfort standards were discussed. Adaptive comfort zone, not comfort temperature, needs to be investigated through field surveys considering the Japanese context such as geographical location, climate, degree of environmental control and general-purpose of the architectural space. Adaptive comfort zone needs to be presented together with the definition of environmental context.

The field study for 134 days, concerning indoor environment quality and productivity of call-center workers, was conducted. Call data of total 13,169 workers was analyzed. The rate of response to calls was adopted as an index to evaluate the worker performance. Worker performance decreased by 2.1 % when the average indoor air temperature rose at 1.0℃. The possibility of the improving productivity under thermal comfortable environment was suggested.

Control principle and evaluation method for thermal environment with the thermal manikin are described in this paper. Under the still air conditions, nude and clothed thermal manikin was exposed to measure skin temperatures and heat loss. Combined heat transfer coefficient for nude conditions were estimated and they were not depended on the surrounding temperatures and its averaged value was 7.9 W/m^2℃. Those at foot and hand were bigger than other parts and thigh and crotch were smaller. The method to calculate PMV from total heat loss was described. Estimation of clo value from heat loss, skin temperature of manikin, and equivalent temperature were discussed here.

午前と午後の知的生産性に影響を及ぼす、睡眠の質の評価方法の検討を目的とし、夏季及び中間期に各対象者の自宅寝室にて実測調査を実施した。睡眠環境の実態及び脳波計を用いた睡眠の詳細な評価を行った。午前と午後に生産性評価試験を実施し、睡眠の質が知的生産性に及ぼす影響を検討した。従来の睡眠の質の評価方法を基に、睡眠段階を考慮した睡眠の質の評価方法を検討した。

The purpose of this survey is to clarify the status of standards on ventilation requirements for residential buildings in European and North American countries. This paper reports the minimum ventilation rate for the residential buildings in eleven countries which are described in the literatures. The airflow rate and air change rate are calculated for a model house proposed by The Architectural Institute of Japan. As a result, the values of air change rate is around 0.5 ACH in almost all countries.

To improve indoor air quality, it’s necessary to accurately control the body odor emitted by humans living under various environmental conditions and lifestyles. The purpose of this study was to obtain a better understanding of the effects of changes in physical quantities due to insufficient sleep on the emission of human bioeffluents causing body odor and the perceived air quality. The experiment involved two conditions of sleep time. Different biogenic substance concentrations and sensory evaluations of the odor in the chamber were obtained when the occupants' sleep times was different, even for the same CO2 concentration in the room.

Air temperature and CO2 concentration were measured in classrooms with ventilation system from April 2018 through March 2022. It is assumed that, under the COVID-19 circumstances, windows of the classrooms, where ventilation system was working, were basically kept open throughout a year. The average air temperature at foot level was 11°C during winter period because of cold outdoor air infiltration. The estimated ventilation rate tended to decrease during winter period. However, the estimated ventilation rate per person more than 30 m3/h was obtained in case of half number of pupils in the classroom with Hybrid-Flexible lesson for the whole day.

In order to investigate the effects of extremely low humidity on human health, comfort and performance, subjective experiments were carried out at Technical University of Denmark. Sixty subjects were exposed in climate chambers for 5 hours, performing simulated office work. Four humidity conditions in clean air at 22℃ and 4 conditions in polluted air, 3 of which at constant absolute humidity, were imposed. It was found that 5 hours ofexposure to 15%RH or below in clean air or high air temperature in polluted air is sufficient for the mucous layer of the tear film to become measurably worse. Subjective reports of dry discomfort increased as humidity levels were reduced, although the level of discomfort was never more than mild even at 5%RH. A negative effect of low humidity was found on the performance. The observed increase in blink rate at lower levels of relative humidity may have progressively reduced the rate of visual data acquisition and lead the decreased performance of subjects.

As the trend toward a decarbonized society accelerates, Net Zero Energy Houses are expected to become more popular. In recent years, the residential sector has been facing the problem of inadequate adjustment of power supply and demand due to the expansion of renewable energy installations.The objective of this study is to understand the actual situation of energy consumption and electricity supply and demand in Net Zero Energy Houses. The primary energy consumption of all-electrified and gas-combination ZEHs were compared. In addition, the relationship between house attribute, occupant lifestyle, and primary energy consumption of all-electrified ZEH were analyzed.
