異方性導電フィルムは, 液晶ディスプレイ実装分野などでの電気的接続に広く用いられている接着材料である。異方性導電フィルムによる接合部は, 樹脂の収縮によって, バンプ間に圧力を発生させ, これによって導通を確保する。一方で, 樹脂の収縮は, 半導体チップや基板との接合部をはく離させる推進力となるため, その両者のバランスのとれた設計が必要である。本研究では基板, 半導体チップと異方性導電フィルムの界面のはく離試験方法を開発し, 異種材界面き裂の応力拡大係数を用いて接合強度の評価を行う手法を提案する。

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has a wide range of clinical manifestations, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, severe inflammation, abnormal blood coagulation, and cytokine storm syndrome. SARS-CoV-2 uniquely facilitates its entry and expansion in host cells through the spike protein consisting of S1 (receptor binding domain) and S2 (fusion peptide domain). The S1 binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), the host cell receptor. The cleavage at the boundary of S1 and S2 by Furin protease and subsequent digestion within the S2 by TMPRSS2 activate the S2 fusion peptides, which are necessary for the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into host cells. After infection, SARS-CoV-2 RNA genome encodes viral proteins including structural proteins, RNA polymerases/helicases, and modulators of host- defense system, which inhibit type I interferon-related immune signaling and signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) signaling. In contrast, SARS-CoV-2 infection activates the proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα). In severe cases of COVID-19, these alterations in immune signaling may induce a state of systemic immune dysfunction. Recent studies also revealed the involvement of hematopoietic cells and alteration of cellular metabolic state in COVID-19. We here review the pathogenesis of COVID-19, primarily focusing on the molecular mechanism underlying SARS-CoV-2 infection and the resulting immunological and hematological alterations.

Eukaryotic genomes comprise numerous retroelements that have a major impact on the structure and regulation of gene function. Retroelements are regulated by epigenetic controls, and they generate multiple miRNAs that are involved in the induction and progression of genomic instability. Elucidation of the biological roles of retroelements deserves continuous investigation to better understand their evolutionary features and implications for disease.

We report on the design and synthesis of high performance catalytic nanoparticles with a robust geometry via magnetron-sputter inert-gas condensation. Sputtering of Pd and Mg from two independent neighbouring targets enabled heterogeneous condensation and growth of nanoparticles with controlled Pd core-MgO porous shell structure. The thickness of the shell and the number of cores within each nanoparticle could be tailored by adjusting the respective sputtering powers. The nanoparticles were directly deposited on glassy carbon electrodes, and their catalytic activity towards methanol oxidation was examined by cyclic voltammetry. The measurements indicated that the catalytic activity was superior to conventional bare Pd nanoparticles. As confirmed by electron microscopy imaging and supported by density-functional theory (DFT) calculations, we attribute the improved catalytic performance primarily to inhibition of Pd core sintering during the catalytic process by the metal-oxide shell.We report on the design and synthesis of high performance catalytic nanoparticles with a robust geometry via magnetron-sputter inert-gas condensation. Three phenyl derivatives of butyrate, 2-phenylbutyrate (2-PB), 3-phenylbutyrate (3-PB) and 4-phenylbutyrate (4-PB), were evaluated in terms of their antibacterial and cytotoxic activities. Our results indicated that PBs demonstrated specific inhibitory activity against Helicobacter pylori and Escherichia coli but did not influence the growth of Bifidobacterium bifidium and Lactobacillus reuteri. PBs also exhibited synergistic effects on H. pylori ATCC 43504 especially at pH 5.5. In the protein expression profiles in H. pylori treated by phenylbutyrates, we also found that three protein spots identified as oxidative stress-related proteins were significantly up-regulated, confirming the response of H. pylori when exposed to PBs. Due to their antibacterial activities and low or slight cytotoxicities, PBs are potential candidates for the treatment of H. pylori infection. This is the first study to discover the antibiotic effects of 2-PB, 3-PB and 4-PB (Buphenyl).

Biological resources are the basic infrastructure of bioscience research. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a good experimental model for research in cereal crops and monocots and includes important genetic materials used in breeding. The availability of genetic materials, including mutants, is important for rice research. In addition, Oryza species are attractive to researchers for both finding useful genes for breeding and for understanding the mechanism of genome evolution that enables wild plants to adapt to their own habitats. NBRP-RICE contributes to rice research by promoting the usage of genetic materials, especially wild Oryza accessions and mutant lines. Our activity includes collection, preservation and distribution of those materials and the provision of basic information on them, such as morphological and physiological traits and genomic information. In this review paper, we introduce the activities of NBRP-RICE and our database, Oryzabase, which facilitates the access to NBRP-RICE resources and their genomic sequences as well as the current situation of wild Oryza genome sequencing efforts by NBRP-RICE and other institutes.

The effects of daily bathing and hot footbath (immersion of feet in hot water) in winter on the sleep behavior of nine healthy female volunteers were studied. Subjects were assigned to three sleep conditions: sleep after bathing (Condition B), sleep after hot footbath (Condition F), and sleep without either treatment (Control). Polysomnograms (consisting of electro-encephalograph, electrooculograph, and electromyograph) were obtained, and body movements during sleep were measured while monitoring both the rectal and skin temperatures of subjects. In addition, subjective sleep sensations were obtained with a questionnaire answered immediately by the subjects on awakening. The rectal temperature increased by approximately 1.0°C under Condition B, but this elevation was not observed under Condition F compared with Control. In contrast, the respective increases in the mean skin temperature of participants subjected to bathing and hot footbath were greater than those of Control, although these temperature differences became negligible 2 h after subjects went to bed. The sleep onset latency was shortened under both conditions compared with Control. Body movements during the first 30 min of sleep in Control were greater than under the other conditions. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep decreased under Condition B compared with Condition F, and stage 3 was greater under the latter condition compared with Control. As such, the subjective sleep sensations were better under the two treatment conditions. These results suggest that both daily bathing and hot footbath before sleeping facilitates earlier sleep onset. A hot footbath is especially recommendable for the handicapped, elderly, and disabled, who are unable to enjoy regular baths easily and safely.

生簀網で飼育したキチヌの生殖巣の発育周期について調べた。体長14.0~33.0cmの機能的雄はすべて雌雄同体で, 全体の魚の39%であった。雌の体長は23.0~38.0cmであった。 GSIは10月に増大し始め, 11月に最高値を示した。産卵は10月末から11月末に生じた。総抱卵数は, 26.4cmの魚で629×104粒, 35cmの魚で1445×104粒であった。

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the stability of orthodontic anchor screws (OASs) in the mid-palatal area according to pre-drilling diameter.Methods: The success rate of 161 OASs (83 patients, φ2.0 mm, 6.0 mm in length) placed in a corresponding area to the mesial and distal borders of the first molar (mesial zone and distal zone) was assessed according to placement location and pre-drilling diameter (1.2 and 1.5 mm). Placement torque values from 73 OASs with a pre-drilling diameter of 1.2 mm were compared between success and failure groups.Results: The success rates of OASs pre-drilled with φ1.2 and 1.5 mm were 94.5% and 83.0%, respectively (P < 0.05); corresponding rates in the mesial zone were 100.0% and 77.3% (P < 0.005), and those in the distal zone were 89.2% and 88.6%, respectively. Placement torques of OASs predrilled with φ1.2 mm in the success and failure groups were 25.9 and 19.2 N·cm, respectively (P < 0.05).Conclusion: A smaller pre-drilling diameter was associated with a higher success rate of OASs in the mid-palatal area, especially in the mesial zone. When pre-drilling diameter of 1.2 mm was used for φ2.0 mm OAS, greater placement torque was indicative of greater OAS stability.

The Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, which is inhabited by Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata), is the northernmost habitat for wild primates in the world. This study was the first to determine the conception dates of specific individuals and estimate the pregnancy rate of wild populations in this region. The pregnancy rate of animals aged 5 years or more at delivery was estimated to be 40.9% (27/66). Conception dates of each fetus were also estimated using a regression line of Pig-tail monkeys (Macaca nemestrina), which are taxonomically related to Japanese monkeys and have a similar physique. The conception dates were distributed across 90 days between September 24th and December 23rd, with a mean conception date of November 4th (SD=22.3 days, n=53). Using these findings, the mean birth date was estimated as April 25th, more than two weeks earlier than the mean birth date in previous research determined using direct observations carried out over the past 20 years ago. Global warming due to climate change is thought to be one of the main causes of this difference.

In order to utilize higher frequency bands above 6GHz, which is an important technical challenge in fifth generation mobile systems, radio propagation channel properties in a large variety of deployment scenarios should be thoroughly investigated. The authors' group has been involved in a fundamental research project aimed at investigating multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) transmission performance and propagation channel properties at microwave frequency above 10GHz from 2009 to 2013, and since then they have been conducting measurement and modeling for high frequency bands. This paper aims at providing comprehensive tutorial of a whole procedure of channel modeling; multi-dimensional channel sounding, propagation channel measurement, analysis, and modeling, by introducing the developed MIMO channel sounders at high frequency bands of 11 and 60GHz and presenting some measurement results in a microcell environment at 11GHz. Furthermore, this paper identifies challenges in radio propagation measurements, and discusses current/future channel modeling issues as future works.

Tupaias, or tree shrews, are small mammals that are similar in appearance to squirrels. The morphological and behavioral characteristics of the group have been extensively characterized, and despite previously being classified as primates, recent studies have placed the group in its own family, the Tupaiidae. Genomic analysis has revealed that the genus Tupaia is closer to humans than it is to rodents. In addition, tupaias are susceptible to hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus. The only other experimental animal that has been demonstrated to be sensitive to both of these viruses is the chimpanzee, but restrictions on animal testing have meant that experiments using chimpanzees have become almost impossible. Consequently, the development of the tupaia for use as an animal infection model could become a powerful tool for hepatitis virus research and in preclinical studies on drug development.

<p>ヒトを含む社会的動物は,同種他個体と親密で永続的な関係(以下,社会的絆)を築く。この社会的絆を強く築く個体は繁殖において有利であることが報告されてきている(e.g., Cameron, Setsaas & Linklater, 2009)。また,de Waal & Luttrell(1986)では,個体は自分と類似した集団内の他個体を親和的な相互作用の相手として選び,社会的絆を形成し始める可能性が示唆されている。実際,ウマ(Equus caballus)においてはより年齢の近い個体間で強い社会的絆が築かれる(ワイルズ,2019)。しかし,ウマが他個体と相互作用をする前に,似た年齢の個体を選好しているかどうかは明らかになっていない。本研究では,ウマが,年齢の異なる未知のウマの顔写真(幼若・同齢・老齢)を単呈示された時に,同年齢の同種他個体に対して視覚的選好を示すかどうかを検討した。その結果,写真のウマの年齢は参加個体の刺激に対する注視行動・接近行動・接触行動に影響しなかった。これらの結果は,ウマは相互作用をする前に,その顔写真に対して同齢他個体への視覚的選好を示さないことを示唆している。</p>
