Background:Because it is unclear whether lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the Japanese population, we explored the association in general Japanese men aged 55–75 years.Methods and Results:The cross-sectional study included male participants who had both national health checkup data and the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) in the same calendar year between 2009 and 2017. LUTS severity was evaluated by IPSS. A robust Poisson regression model was used to assess the association between LUTS severity and the composite CVD outcome [coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, or atrial fibrillation (AF)] and each component of the composite outcome. Prevalence ratio (PR) was adjusted for conventional cardiovascular risk factors. Of 16,781 male participants (mean age, 67±5 years), mild LUTS were observed in 9,243 (55.1%); moderate, 6,445 (38.4%); and severe, 1,093 (6.5%). Compared with the mild LUTS group, moderate LUTS [PR 1.18, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.10–1.25, P<0.001] and severe LUTS (PR 1.38, 95% CI 1.24–1.53, P<0.001) were significantly associated with a higher prevalence of CVD. LUTS severity was associated with higher prevalence of CAD and stroke, but not AF.Conclusions:The severity of LUTS was associated with a higher prevalence of CVD, especially CAD and stroke, independent of conventional CVD risk factors.

デング熱は20世紀以降,流行が世界中で報告され,2億 5千万人以上が感染リスクを負っており,特に熱帯アジアでの流行が大きく,この地域に限っていえばマラリアを凌ぐ最も深刻な蚊媒介性ウイルス感染症となっている.フィリピンは東南アジアの中でも特にデング熱感染者数,死亡者数が多い国であるが,媒介蚊に関してはマニラを含む首都圏の情報が断片的にあるのみである.そこで,本研究では, 2010年 1月にルソン島において,古タイヤから発生するデング熱媒介蚊調査を行った.侵襲度を調べるとともに,野外にてピレスロイド系殺虫剤感受性簡易試験を行った. その結果,135地点から蚊の幼虫を採集した. 3,093個のタイヤのうち,775個のタイヤをチェックした. 有水,有蚊幼虫タイヤ数はそれぞれ 341(44.0%),127(16.4%)個だった. ネッタイシマカはルソン島に広く生息しており,ヒトスジシマカは北部と南部の一部にみられた.デング熱媒介蚊以外にネッタイイエカも採集された ネッタイシマカのほうがヒトスジシマカよりピレスロイド系殺虫剤に対する感受性が低下していることが示唆された.

Begonia sect. Baryandra is distributed mainly in the Philippines with a few species in Borneo and New Guinea. Previous chromosome information of sect. Baryandra has restricted to ca. 16 species and their karyotypes have never been investigated. Here we report the cytological investigations of 26 species of sect. Baryandra, including five karyotype analyses that are the first report in sect. Baryandra, 24 species were reported cytologically for the first time, and two species were re-examined. Incorporating previous and present studies, chromosome numbers of 40 of the 78 species in sect. Baryandra are now available. Except for some intraspecific variant counts of 2n=26 and 44, and a tetraploid number of 2n=56, 39 species have the chromosome number of either 2n=28 or 30. The karyotypic formula of the three investigated species is uniform as 2n=28=10m+18sm(st), and two as 2n=30=8m+22sm(st). Based on molecular phylogenetic relationships, ancestral state reconstruction suggests that 2n=30 is the most likely ancestral chromosome number of sect. Baryandra, with 2n=28 a derived number. Based on our and previous studies, the chromosome evolution in Begonia sect. Baryandra is discussed.

Protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) is known to induce hypercoagulability and resultant thromboembolism in dogs. We hypothesized that hypercoagulability would improve if remission was obtained in dogs with PLE after treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the changes in the coagulation parameters after treatment in dogs diagnosed with PLE. As coagulation parameters, prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), fibrinogen, thrombin-antithrombin complex (TAT), D-dimer, and antithrombin (AT) were measured. In addition to these parameters, rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), which evaluates the comprehensive coagulation and fibrinolysis reactions of whole blood, was conducted and the data of clotting time (CT), clot formation time (CFT), α angle (α), maximum clot firmness (MCF) and lysis index at 60 min (LI60) were obtained. Eleven of the 14 dogs diagnosed with PLE were classified as responders to the treatment based on the changes in their plasma albumin (ALB) concentration after treatment. Significant increase in CFT and decrease of α and MCF indicating the resolution of hypercoagulability were found after treatment in responder dogs; however, there was no significant change in the coagulation and fibrinolysis parameters other than those measured by ROTEM. This study demonstrated that the hypercoagulability detected by ROTEM was significantly improved after treatment in dogs with PLE.

In this study, the combined effect of different packaging materials (transparent PET, transparent glass, glass-PET bottle and tin), some aromatic herbs (thyme, rosemary, sage and olive leaf) and also their essential oils (thyme, rosemary and sage) on fatty acid composition of virgin olive oil was investigated during storage period. The initial amounts of the main fatty acids as oleic, palmitic and linoleic acids were determined as 72.89%, 11.89% and 8.96%, respectively. The addition of aromatic plants and essential oils did not effect the fatty acid profile. Also, packaging materials had a minor influence on fatty acids. In the 6th month of storage, the oleic acid contents of olive oils showed the increase in all of samples. The highest increase was observed in olive oil stored in glass-PET (74.30-75.01%), followed by stored in glass bottle (73.41-74.82%). Generally, during the storage, the differences of fatty acid contents were in minor level. The fatty acid composition of olive oils stored under different essential oil and extract concentrations showed partial differences depending on the extract type and concentration.

Crónica del rey pasmadoは、フェリペ4世が妻の裸を見るために突き当たった様々な障害を描いたものである。当時、教会や政府関係者は、国王が妻の裸をみるという行いによって、新大陸から戻る艦隊の損失と、フランドルでの軍事的敗北につながることを恐れられていた。この小説では、性的タブーを犯さない限り、神がトーテムのように自分たちを守ってくれるという原始的な考え方に支配された宮廷に出入りする面々を描き出している。つまり、ゴンサロ・トレンテは、スペインの不合理な文化的論理を面白おかしく批判するために、歴史的枠組を使ったのである。本論文ではCrónica del rey pasmadonにおけるパロディーを踏まえた心理臨床的なアプローチを実践し、タブー神話の崩壊、そしてアイロニーとの関係を考察する。

Arnica mallotopus is a perennial herb endemic to the snowy regions of Japan. At the southern edge of its distribution, in Kyoto Prefecture, overgrazing by sika deer and decreased snowfall have resulted in the rapid decline of A. mallotopus populations. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a conservation genetic analysis of the remaining local populations. In this study, we first developed 13 EST-SSR markers to evaluate genetic variation in A. mallotopus. The average number of alleles per locus was 5.33. Genetic analysis using these markers showed that the investigated samples were classified into two groups corresponding to landscape structure. One group isolated from a tributary of the Yura River showed a strong population bottleneck signal, likely resulting from founder effects and subsequent drifts. On the other hand, the genetic diversity of the second group in the main distribution along the Yura River was higher and less inbred. Overall, our assessment suggested recognizing the two genetic groups as management units in conservation programs for the threatened populations.

中国山東省の主要なワタ生産地4ヵ所および非生産地1ヵ所で,1985年,1999年および2004年に採集したワタアブラムシのフェンバレレート,オメトエート,イミダクロプリド,アセタミプリド,カルボスルファンおよびエンドスルファンに対する抵抗性を調べた.薬量応答曲線の比較から,ワタアブラムシのフェンバレレートに対する顕著な抵抗性が認められ,1985年に30~370倍であった抵抗性比は2004年には370~2150倍へと上昇した.イミダクロプリドおよびアセタミプリドに対しては,2004年に17倍から97倍の抵抗性比が見られた.オメトエートに対する抵抗性比は採集した地方によって大きく異なり,5倍から80倍であった.それに対して,すべての地方で1999年から2004年の間にはカルボスルファンに対する抵抗性比の上昇はなかった.この結果は,これらの地方におけるワタアブラムシの管理においての有用な情報であると考えられた.

In full-scale sewage treatment plants, long-term and high-frequency monitoring is required to mitigate nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. In this study, the profile of the dissolved N2O concentration in a full-scale oxidation ditch reactor was investigated to determine the variation of the N2O emission factor. It was found that the concentration of dissolved N2O depended on microbial activity, which is affected by water temperature, dissolved oxygen concentration, and the dimensional relationship between the rotator and the inflow point. In the reactor, higher transcription levels of amoA mRNA and lower transcription levels of clade II type nosZ mRNA may be associated with N2O production. The emission factor for removed dissolved inorganic nitrogen presented a mean value of 0.86% and a median of 0.19%. When N2O production was promoted, gasification from the water surface was the most significant emission source, accounting for 52% of the total N2O emitted, on average. The N2O emission factor was often lower than 0.01% during stable operation; however, this factor was subject to sudden increases caused by nitrite accumulation.

[Purpose] To determine the effects of forward head posture on static and dynamic balance control. [Subjects and Methods] This study included 30 participants who were included into a forward head posture group (n = 14) and a control group (n = 16) according to their craniovertebral angles. Static balance control was assessed according to center of gravity sway velocity and total sway distance using an automatic balance calibration system. Dynamic balance control was assessed using the diagnosis mode of a body-tilt training and measurement system. [Results] Sway velocities on a hard surface with eyes open and closed and those on an unstable sponge surface with eyes closed were significantly higher in the forward head posture group than in the control group. Furthermore, on both the hard and sponge surfaces in the eyes open and closed conditions, total sway distances were significantly higher in the forward head posture group than in the control group. Results of dynamic balance control were not significantly different between groups. [Conclusion] Forward head posture has a greater effect on static balance control than on dynamic balance control.

硫酸化スフィンゴ糖脂質の代表であるガラクトシルスルファチド(SM4s)は神経系組織、特にミエリンの主要糖脂質であるが、次いで腎にも高濃度に発現されている。また、腎からはラクトシルスルファチド(SM3)を初めとする多種類のモノ硫酸化糖脂質やビス硫酸化糖脂質、さらに硫酸化ガングリオシドが見出され、尿細管におけるイオンバリアーとしての機能が示唆されている。一方、哺乳類の精巣には硫酸化グリセロ糖脂質であるセミノリピド(SM4g)が高濃度に存在することから、精子形成や受精における役割が議論されてきた。本稿ではこれら硫酸化糖脂質の分析法の進歩について述べるとともに、SM4sおよびSM4gの生合成に直接関与する酵素遺伝子のノックアウトマウスの解析結果を中心に解説し、硫酸化糖脂質の腎および精巣における機能について考察する。

Aim: A prospective cohort study in a Japanese urban general population was performed to investigate whether triglyceride (TG) and its related indices were associated with the risk for the incidence of ischemic cardiovascular disease (CVD) after the adjustment for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in Asian community dwellers. Methods: A 15.1-year prospective cohort study was performed in 6,684 Japanese community dwellers aged 30–79 years without a history of CVD and whose fasting TG levels were <400 mg/dL. After adjusting for covariates, including LDL-C, the multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of the deciles (D) of TG and those of 1-standard deviation (SD) increment of log-transformed TG (1-SD of TG) according to LDL-C level (≥ 140 and <140 mg/dL) for ischemic CVD incidence were estimated. The multivariable-adjusted HRs and 95%CIs of the quintiles (Q) of TG, TG/HDL-C, and the cardiometabolic index (CMI) for ischemic CVD were also estimated. Results: In 101,230 person-years, 464 ischemic CVD cases occurred. For D10 of TG, the HR (95%CI) was 1.56 (1.05–2.32), and for 1-SD of TG, it was 1.30 (1.00–1.70) in participants with LDL-C <140 mg/dL and 1.07 (0.77–1.50) in those with LDL-C ≥ 140 mg/dL. For Q5 of the CMI, the multivariable-adjusted HR was higher than those of TG and TG/HDL-C. Conclusions: Fasting TG was an independent predictor for ischemic CVD incidence after adjusting for LDL-C in Japanese community dwellers with TG <400 mg/dL. Among TG, TG/HDL-C, and the CMI, the CMI could be the most powerful predictor for ischemic CVD.

Background: Inflammation is emerging as a potential mechanism of cervical carcinogenesis. However, few studies have investigated the association between host inflammatory status and the natural course of cervical precursor lesion. The aim of this study was to assess the probability of LSIL regression, associated with an inflammatory biomarker, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP).Methods: In a longitudinal cohort study, female participants were examined annually or biannually using cervical cytology between 2006 and 2015. Incident LSIL cases were included in the analysis, with regression defined as at least one consecutive normal cytologic result. A total of 520 women aged 22–64 years were followed up for LSIL regression. The multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for LSIL regression were estimated using a parametric proportional hazards model.Results: During 827.5 person-years of follow-up, 486 out of 520 subjects (93.5%) showed LSIL regression. After adjusting several important potential confounders, a higher quartile of hs-CRP levels was significantly associated with a lower rate of regression (for quartile 4 vs quartile 1, inverse HR 1.33; 95% CI, 1.04–1.69; P for trend = 0.028).Conclusions: The low rate of spontaneous regression recorded in women with higher hs-CRP lends support to the role of the perturbated host inflammatory status in cervical carcinogenesis, and suggests that hs-CRP level could help monitor LSIL.
