In accordance with rapid increase of industrial microwave application on heating, more and more high power microwave sources are required. Among many microwave devices, magnetron is most advantageous in economical point of view. Responding to these requirements, a super high power magnetron with output power of 420kW in CW which will be the largest in the world at this time, objective power being 500kW, was developed. In this paper, the design principle, the construction and the scale of each parts are described. The measured characteristics of the developed device reveal satisfactory.

In this paper, we propose a self-tuning algorithm by which we can achieve autonomous engineering including model identification and control parameter tuning on the edge-type MPC (Model Predictive Control). In the model identification algorithm, offset estimation is introduced in order to replace step response tests. We compare the control performance of the self-tuning edge-type MPC with those of PID control and offline-tuned edge-type MPC for a MIMO stir process model. As a result, the proposed self-tuning edge-type MPC achieves faster tracking performance without any pre-tuning.

This paper reviews a disturbance canceling control based on a disturbance observer from the view point of servo controllers and gives several new points of this control methodology. Especially, the extended H∞ control, previously proposed by authors, is proven to be a special type of such a disturbance canceling controller which has an ability to shape the frequency response of the complementary sensitivity function.

To realize connected and/or self-driving vehicles for a mobility environment, it requires an authentication mechanism to prevent spoofing of on-board units of the vehicle and a mechanism to prevent eavesdropping and tampering of communication data between an on-board unit and servers in the cloud. Considering the huge number of vehicles in the system, an authentication method is required to mitigate the complexity of operation and management for the number of vehicles. In this paper, we propose a data utilization system that securely stores in-vehicle LAN data, which consist of control data flowing inside a vehicle, in the cloud in real time, and provides this information securely to third parties such as vehicle users, car dealers, and non-life insurance companies. The system uses ID-based cryptography as a mutual authentication method between on-board units and the data collection servers, and uses a key generated from the ID of an on-board unit to ease the key management. We integrate the management information of the vehicle and the authentication key of the vehicle in the system, and thus reduces the complexity of the operation and the key management.

We propose quantized feature with angular displacement for pose-based activity recognition. We calculate a 3D joint angle from three postural coordinates. The angular displacement should be quantized since joint angle includes errors due to system noises and similar posture. To investigate appropriate features, we propose four kinds of quantization levels; binarization, ternarization, quaternarization, and quinarization. We apply quantized features in order to improve pose-based activity recognition with the UTKinect-Action Dataset. In the experiment, we show the appropriate feature for activity recognition. As the result, the ternarized feature achieves the highest recognition rate in average. The recognition rate of trials with ternarized feature is improved 2.4% to one with no-quantized feature, and 1.8% to conventional method.

It is wrong to consider that the more difficult the papers are, the more valuable. We should write a paper in a top-down manner, starting from the central idea that explains the originality of the paper down to the details.In the abstract, we should state the originality, the new approach, and the contribution of the paper. In the introduction, we should explain the problems of the previous work citing references and explain what is the originality of the paper and how to solve the problems in a new way. In the body of the paper, we should discuss the idea more elaborately, if possible, using figures and then move to the details. In the conclusions, we should state the method and contribution clearly.In presenting a paper, we should explain the idea by figures not resorting to mathematical equations.

Today, the technique of virtual reality has become popular in various fields because of its technical progress. We focused on ‘presence’ - one of the three elements of virtual reality, and constructed a simple supporting system for piano education. The virtual world and the real world are overlapped by showing the visual information in this system. The purpose of this system is to use the realistic virtual image as an interface (or tool) of education.The unity of the virtual image and the reality has been done with standing pictures by using, for example, ‘See-through HMD’. In this research, however, we overlapped the virtual image and the real world with moving pictures. The overlapping is accomplished not by using HMD, but by using a half mirror. The virtual hands can automatically play a tune from a score so that learners can choose what they like without instructors. This is one example of the system which has a proven effectiveness.

For operability improvement, this paper proposes a frequency modification method using fast Fourier transform (FFT) in a bilateral control. A bilateral control is one of the remote control methods with tactile sensation. The bilateral control system consists of the leader and follower systems. By using FFT, the position response and estimated force in the leader and follower systems are converted from the time domain to the frequency domain. In the frequency domain, frequency modification is conducted. After the frequency modification, the frequency domain data is reconverted to the time domain by using inverse FFT. Therefore, the proposed method enables frequency modification that is easy for the operator to manipuate in the bilateral control. For the confirmation of the validity of the proposed method, the experiments that imitate drilling tasks were conducted.

There is the increasing concern of the society to prevent the tumbling of the aged. The study of the static, as well as dynamic aspects, such as the muscular strength of the lower-limb and the postural stability, should be developed, especially from the viewpoint of the aged. This paper focuses on the external observation of the foot and toenail, as being correlated to the physical functions of the lower-limb against tumbling. The lower-limb functions are evaluated in terms of the 10 m walking time, the toe-gap force and single-foot standing period. The correlation to the personal tumbling experiences is also examined. It is seen that the groups, which exhibit external abnormalities in the foot and the toenail, generally decline in the muscular strength and postural stability. They also have more frequent tumbling experiences and express in their concern of the danger of tumbling. It seems that those shapes abnormalities can indicate, to some extent, the tumbling danger of the aged.

For train simulations, there is a well-known train movement model. By using the model, the precise running status of a train at the designated values for the velocity, position, and time, must be obtained to analyze the train movement in detail. However, conventional simulation methods cannot calculate the precise status at the designated value, because they only calculate the running status discretely at fixed interval. To resolve this problem, we propose a simulation method that has two features. First, the method utilizes integral formulas. An expression of velocity is formulated that directly gives the precise running status at the designated velocity. With the expression, we can also formulate expressions for position and time. Second, since the designated values for the three variables are given at one time, we build a framework that contains the above three expressions and performs the calculations in the appropriate order to get the running status corresponding to a designated value firstly fulfilled. The proposed simulation method calculates the required running status without considering errors introduced by the method itself. It also uses a smaller number of calculations than conventional methods. The proposed simulation has various uses from planning to control of railways to which the conventional method has been applied.

To examine the possibility of electromagnetic precusor preceding an earthquake the vertical earth potential difference (EPD) has been observed continuously at an urban area. Iregularily continued pulses had been observed for several hours before and after the Off East Hokkaido earthquake. We have referred both a series of signals of the terrestrial magnetism and the lightning location (LLP) map. No significant signal is recognized on those of terrestrial magnetism, however, severe lightning flashes occured over the Japan Sea at this time. To clarify the cause of the EPD pulse signal, the LLP map and the radar echo map are shown in the case of (a) near lightning flashes (b) far lightning flashes (c) the Off East Hokkaido earthquake. The signals in the cases of (b) and (c) are similar, therefore, the pulses are detected by the far lightning electromagnetic change. The LLP map must be referred to examine electromagnetic precusors of an earthquake. The EPD signal generated by propagating seisamic wave is also recorded.

Generally, in electric equipment, a large inrush current flows in the capacitor when the power is turned on. The inrush current causes deposition of terminals and switches, melting of fuses, and so on. Therefore, conventional inrush current prevention circuits using an electrical relay and a controller are provided. However, the use of electrical relay enhances concern about an increase in cost and charge-time. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes the inrush current prevention circuit without electrical relay. In this paper, the authors examine the effectiveness of the proposed circuit from experimental results.

We aimed to evaluate the aging and deterioration of Japanese sake by its electrical properties. The time dependence of Japanese sake after opening the package was electrically measured. As a results, Japanese sake preserved in an environment that does not easily deteriorate tended to have little change in electrical properties.

In automated driving at Level 3, drivers constantly need to allocate attention to the driving environment to react immediately to a take-over request. However, the amount of attention of drivers to the driving environment has not been quantified. The objective of this study was a quantitative evaluation of the amount of attention to the driving environment, and the psychophysiological state of the driver, during automated driving at Level 3. Attention and driver state at Level 3 were evaluated using ERP and psychophysiological indices respectively with compared to Level 2. The dual task method was used, in which twelve subjects performed driving tasks (Level 2 and Level 3) on a driving simulation system while in parallel performing an auditory oddball task. The data showed that the amount of attention to the driving environment at Level 3 decreased in comparison to Level 2, as indirectly measured by a 19.2% increase in attention to the auditory oddball task. Sympathetic nervous system activity during Level 3 automated driving decreased as compared to Level 2. In the psychological state, comfortable feeling and arousal level decreased at Level 3.

Selfies may have an effect on the psychophysiological state. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the psychophysiological state by providing feedback for selfies. The effect of the time period was also investigated. The period from the date a selfie was taken to the experiment date was configured as 2 conditions: a Short period (1-40 days) and a Long period (41-80 days). In this study, the evocation of emotions was attempted by providing feedback for four types of selfie 1: good face, 2: bad face, 3: good psychological state, and 4: bad psychological state. “Comfort emotion”, “Like emotion”, and “Awareness” significantly increased when providing feedback for a selfie evaluated as having a good face and a good psychological state. The experimental results using two-way analysis of variance revealed that the physiological state was not affected by the time period, but the psychological state was affected by the time period. The combination of (Positive Face Evaluation) × (Long period) selfies had more positive effect on “Awareness”.

An imbalance of the circadian rhythm due to an irregular lifestyle leads to autonomic dystonia. The long-hour variations of the physiological indices such as core temperature and heart rate variability, associated with the autonomic nervous activity, have been focused. Additionally, the relationships between these physiological indices and facial skin temperature have been reported. The objective of this study is to identify the day-long variable components of facial thermal images (FTIs) to evaluate the corresponding variations of autonomic nervous activity by non-contact measurement. In this study, the measured FTIs were subjected to independent component analysis (ICA). Additionally, multiple regression analysis was performed to estimate the relationships between independent components, extracted from FTIs, and other psychophysiological indices, associated with autonomic nervous activity. As a result, the facial day-long variable components, representing the reproducible rhythm through multiple days, were identified by applying ICA to several different combinations of FTIs. Moreover, these components were associated with the axillary temperature. Therefore, the long-period variations, associated with autonomic nervous activity, could be evaluated from the facial skin temperature.
