Background: β-Glucans reportedly inhibit gastric ulceration; however, it is unclear which form of the polysaccharide is important for this inhibitory effect. In this study, the effect of paramylon from Euglena gracilis (β-(1,3)-glucan) on gastric ulcers was evaluated. Materials and methods: Wistar rats were exposed to water-immersion restraint stress (WIRS). Results: Dietary intake of Euglena extract powder, paramylon (insoluble), and amorphous paramylon (soluble) decreased the area of gastric ulceration in comparison with the control group. WIRS-induced increases of inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in the gastric mucosa and serum IgA and alanine aminotransferase levels were suppressed in rats fed with Euglena extract powder, paramylon, or amorphous paramylon. These results indicate that paramylon and amorphous paramylon suppressed gastric ulcers, presumably by reducing oxidative damage resulting from WIRS. In addition, our data suggest that Euglena extract powder, paramylon, and amorphous paramylon prevent the WIRS-induced influx of proinflammatory molecules from the gut.

火山噴火に対する危機管理の意思決定を行うにあたり,最も困難な側面のひとつは火山観測データの解釈である.火山観測データに応じて,火山噴火の危険性を定量的に評価することが可能となれば,火山噴火時の危機管理の意思決定を支援する重要な情報となる. 本研究では,火山噴火の危険性について,火山観測データを噴火確率として定量的に評価した.具体的には,御嶽山の2014年危機を対象として,火山観測データのうち火山性地震と火山性微動の発生回数のデータを用いて,ベイズ推定により,時々刻々と変化する噴火確率を推定し,火山噴火の危険性を定量的に評価できることを示した.

左大脳半球のブローカ領域ないしその周辺の損傷による特異な構音と韻律の障害を, 発語失行症という.この障害は, 言語表象の操作機能の障害としての失語症とも, 発声・発語器官の麻痺や筋力低下による麻痺性 (運動障害性) 構音障害とも異なる特殊な構音障害である.この障害の本態の解明はいまだ十分とはいえないが, その出現率は低くなく, 臨床上, この障害の取り扱いは重要である.本稿では, 発語失行症の構音障害の特徴, 構音器官の動態などについてのこれまでの研究結果を概括し, 障害像を浮き彫りにするとともに, 評価・診断を中心とした臨床的アプローチについても考察を加える.最後に, 臨床場面での今後の課題について若干私見を述べる.

ヨーロッパ18世紀に,多くの人が図書館めぐりの旅行をした。その一人学生ウッフェンバッハもドイツ,オランダ,イギリスの図書館探訪旅行をし,歴史ある図書館で貴重マヌスクリプトを実見した。大学図書館は未整備で,むしろ教授の個人図書館のほうがよかった。記録した多数の書誌データによって,旅行記は貴重図書の総合目録の役割を果たした。粗野な書誌記述は目録規則の模索段階ともいえる。鎖つき本の書見台は,書架システムのリアルな歴史である。図書館員の多くは書物や蔵書管理の基礎知識をもたず,彼の厳しい批判にさらされた。

It is the purpose of this paper to clear the architectural characteristics of the KOGANE. The followings were clarified .It seems that KOGANE was built for Japanese-style architecture in the red-light district in the early Meiji-era. It was a peak of skill of Japanese wooden architecture. So the transoms of moon & bats , gooses fretwork were very fine skill and specific architectural characteristics. And the law balustrade surrounded Japanese veranda was too. The only KOGANE has existed in formerly those days architecture.

森林管理協議会(FSC)は,環境保全の点からみても適切で,社会的な利益に適い,経済的にも継続可能な森林管理を推進することを目的としている。本稿では,マレーシア・サバ州キナバタンガン川中流域に位置するD保存林に隣接する村落において,先住民の権利に関わるFSC原則と規準の運用状況を検証した。林業局はD保存林でFSC認証を取得後,認証機関による改善要求により,違法伐採の取締りのため境界管理を厳格化した。それに伴い,村人の慣習的な森林利用も制限されていた。FSCは本来,先住民の権利を保障することを目的としているが,本稿の事例では,森林法が厳しく適用された一方で,先住民の慣習権が適確に認知されなかったため,先住民の森林利用が制限されることとなった。先住民の慣習的な森林利用が,法律や制度によって十分認められていない地域では,土地や森林資源の利用をめぐる対立が潜在していることが多く,森林認証制度の導入により,それが顕在化することがある。そのため森林管理者や認証機関は,既存法では先住民の慣習的な権利が保障されないことが多いことを認識した上で,認証基準を適用すべきであろう。

We report a case of tooth loss and alveolar bone necrosis secondary to herpes zoster in the region innervated by the third branch of the trigeminal nerve. The patient was a 74-year-old man who was referred to our department with chief complaints of tooth loss and exposure of the alveolar bone in the left mandible. He had a history of herpes zoster of the trigeminal nerve and had spontaneous loss of the left mandibular second premolar and first molar approximately 2.5 months and 1.5 months before his first visit, respectively. Initial examination revealed exposure of the alveolar bone of the two affected teeth, with gingival swelling and flare. In addition, paresthesia was present in the region innervated by the third branch of the left trigeminal nerve, for which a dermatologist had prescribed vitamin B12. Antibacterial treatment with local irrigation was performed after initial presentation. Five weeks after his first visit, we observed the elimination of a sequestrum. Currently, the exposed bone has disappeared, and the patient's disease course has been uneventful. The pathological diagnosis was bone necrosis associated with infection.

三叉神経第III枝領域に発症した帯状疱疹に,顎骨壊死を合併した症例を経験した.患者は77歳の男性で,既往に糖尿病があり,左耳痛と左下の歯の痛み,舌痛を主訴に近医歯科を受診した.症状が改善しないため発症7日目に当院口腔外科を紹介された.左下顎根尖病変に加え,左耳介と頬部から下顎にかけて自発痛を伴う皮膚びらんと腫脹が広がっていた.帯状疱疹の診断で皮膚科に入院となり,アシクロビル投与が開始されたが,翌日に異常行動などが出現したためアシクロビル脳症を疑い,投与を中止し免疫グロブリン投与が行われた.疼痛コントロールが不良であったためペインクリニックに紹介されたが,当科での治療開始後,疼痛が改善したため退院した.発症51日目に左下の歯牙脱落の訴えがあり,当院口腔外科に紹介した.左下顎骨壊死との診断で,全身麻酔下に腐骨除去術が施行された.帯状疱疹が三叉神経第II,III枝領域に発症した場合,続発的に歯の脱落や顎骨壊死を発症する報告があり,帯状疱疹の合併症の一つとして認識しておく必要がある.本症例は帯状疱疹に対して十分な抗ウイルス薬投与が行えなかったことが,発症の一因であった可能性が考えられた.

We report two cases of alveolar osteonecrosis and tooth loss caused by trigeminal herpes zoster infection.A 69-year-old man and a 73-year-old man were referred to our hospital after the onset of herpes zoster infection of the third ramus of the right trigeminal nerve. The first patient had alveolar osteonecrosis and spontaneous teeth exfoliation (5 4 3) 15 days after the onset of herpes zoster infection. He was given a diagnosis of mandibular carcinoma by his dentist. The second patient had teeth mobility (4 3) 4 days after the onset of herpes zoster infection. He was given a diagnosis of acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis by his dentist. In both patients antibiotic therapy and local irrigation were performed, and the separated necrotic bone was removed step by step. In the second patient the right lower canine, which had grade III tooth mobility, was extracted 55 days after treatment. After final removal of the necrotic bone, cure was obtained.Although both patients showed a typical clinical course of herpes zoster infection, their dentists could not make a correct diagnosis. Therefore it is necessary to be aware that alveolar osteonecrosis and tooth loss can be caused by trigeminal herpes zoster infection. Minimum surgical treatment may be effective for such complications.

The cyanobacterium Acaryochloris marina MBIC 11017 (A. marina 11017) possesses chlorophyll d (Chl. d) peaking at 698 nm as photosystem reaction center pigments, instead of chlorophyll a (Chl. a) peaking at 665 nm. About 95% of the total chlorophylls is Chl. d in A. marina 11017. In addition, A. marina 11017 possesses phycobilisome (PBS) supercomplex to harvest orange light and to transfer the absorbing energy to the photosystems. In this context, A. marina 11017 utilizes both far-red and orange light as the photosynthetic energy source. In the present study, we incubated A. marina 11017 cells under monochromatic orange and far-red light conditions and performed transcriptional and morphological studies by RNA-seq analysis and electron microscopy. Cellular absorption spectra, transcriptomic profiles, and microscopic observations demonstrated that PBS was highly accumulated under an orange light condition relative to a far-red light condition. Notably, transcription of one cpcBA operon encoding the phycobiliprotein of the phycocyanin was up-regulated under the orange light condition, but another operon was constitutively expressed under both conditions, indicating functional diversification of these two operons for light harvesting. Taking the other observations into consideration, we could illustrate the photoacclimation processes of A. marina 11017 in response to orange and far-red light conditions in detail.
