Nagoya Cochin is one of Japan’s famous chicken breeds and was also the first domestic commercial chicken. The eggshell is a pink cherry-blossom color, with white speckles on its surface. The purpose of this study is to develop an eggshell color index for quality control to improve the commercial value. This study consists of two experiments. In the first experiment, the eggshell color of sixty eggs was measured by a colorimeter TC-8600A, and a visual evaluation using photo images of each egg was conducted by fourteen visual inspection experts. They scored on a Likert scale of five steps on four criteria: attractiveness of color, attractiveness of white speckles distribution, overall attractiveness, and preference. The relationship between the eggshell color and the visual impression was analyzed on a Hunter Lab color space. In the second experiment, a range of color variations of eggshells were generated on a screen using Adobe Photoshop, and a visual evaluation of three hundred and fifteen egg images was conducted by seven experts. It is hoped the results from both experiments will be useful for agricultural producers to develop more attractive products and increase the commercial value of Nagoya Cochin chickens.

<p>We investigated the changes in taste sensations experienced while eating three types of bitter chocolate formulated from cacao beans from Ghana, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Sensory evaluations were performed on 53 subjects wearing nose clips for the Descriptive Analysis (DA) method and the Temporal Dominance of Sensations (TDS) method. The Time Intensity (TI) method was performed by trained panels. The subjects answered a questionnaire survey. The rate for liking 'Ghana' was 40%, 'Venezuela' was 36%, and 'Ecuador' was 24%. Using the DA method, the Ghana and Venezuela samples, which showed stronger sweetness, weaker bitterness, and astringency, earned higher overall scores than the Ecuador samples. The TI method revealed no significant differences among the three samples. The TDS method showed the Ghana and Venezuela samples to have a long sweetness duration, while the Ecuador sample was characterized by bitterness. With the TDS method, it appears that the sensory impression of taste is related to the initial taste and the duration of noteworthy taste. Liking the taste of the chocolate tended to be related to both the initial taste and the duration of any noteworthy taste. We therefore conclude that the TDS method is effective for sensations of impression and the TI method for intensity in the dynamic measurement of chocolate taste preferences.</p>

Eradication of H. pylori in patients allergic to penicillin should be performed using regimens without penicillin derivatives. We treated a total of 28 patients allergic to penicillin with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), metronidazole (250 mg bid) and sitafloxacin (100 mg bid) for one to two weeks. At four to eight weeks after the treatment, the patients underwent the [13C]-urea breath test. The overall eradication rate was 100.0%. Mild adverse events were observed. Triple therapy with a PPI, metronidazole and sitafloxacin is well tolerated and effective for the eradication of H. pylori in patients allergic to penicillin.

<p>This research explored bitter taste and its background by sensory evaluation and investigation of five sorts of bitter chocolate made from cocoa beans roasted in different ways and derived from different places. Bitter taste lovers constituted more than the half the study participants; these students considered bitter food to be healthy, with a relaxing effect, and had liked bitter-tasting foods since they were young. They did not consider stress to be associated with bitter taste. The results of the sensory evaluation revealed that the melting smoothness of chocolate from beans subjected to low-temperature roasting was better than that of chocolate from high-temperature-roasted beans; it had a sweet taste and <i>koku</i>, and a sensation of bitterness was obtained when the chocolate was first placed in the mouth.</p><p>These results showed that chocolate from cocoa of Venezuelan origin was rated highly under roasting conditions that resulted in a bitter aftertaste, whereas that from Ecuador was rated lower. The time taken for the bitter taste to appear in the mouth was a factor that contributed to the evaluation of bitterness. Those participants who were classed as lovers of bitterness liked a range of beans.</p>

The five choruses from various parts via satellites of world and an orchestra "Ode to Joy" were synchronized in Opening Ceremony of Nagano Olympic. NHK Engineering Services davaioped the Time-Lag Adjuster (TLA) to conduct this. TLAs overcame time and distance lags, and this technology brought their voices and images together at precisaly the same moment at Minami Stadium in Nagano on huge screens, united in a simultaneous live performance successfully. We also developed "Audio and Video delay time measurement device". which allowed easy and stable operation for the opening ceremony.

Benzoylphenylureas (BPUs) were discovered as novel type insecticides about a half century ago; many analogs have been launched as insecticides and acaricides. BPUs are known to inhibit chitin synthesis in insects and other arthropods, but they have no effect against microorganisms such as fungi. We designed new chitin synthesis inhibitors based on the hypothesis that biomolecules that play important roles in cellulose and chitin biosynthesis are similar. In the full automatic modeling system (FAMS), the cellulose synthase was selected as a template three-dimensional structure. Thus, we focused on the structure of cellulose synthase inhibitor, isoxaben, to develop new chemistry. The 1,1-diethylethyl [-C(CH3)(CH2CH3)2] group of isoxaben was changed to a 4-substituted phenyl group bearing Cl, Et, or Ph. These compounds significantly inhibited chitin synthesis in the cultured integument of the rice stem borer Chilo suppressalis. The activity of the 4-ethylphenyl analog was enhanced 30-fold by adding piperonyl butoxide to the culture medium.

より特異的な癌イメージングは、より正確な治療を可能にし、さらに超特異的癌治療は、癌に対しては強力でありながら、患者の体に対してはやさしい治療になりうるはずである。より良い癌の臨床を追い求める医学研究者として、さらなる「病気に厳しく、患者の体に優しい」方法の開発が、究極の目標である。この稿では、私たちの研究室で行ってきた特異性を重視した次世代のイメージング方法論、さらに造影薬剤作成と利用の基本理念と方向性を解説したい。加えて、次世代のイメージング技術の新たな進化形である、超特異的癌治療「近赤外光線癌治療」の開発理念と特徴、さらにそのさまざまな応用法についても触れたい。
