南ウェールズのブレナヴォンBlaenavon 産業遺産群が、2000 年にユネスコから世界遺産の指定を受けた。この中で、主要なものは、炭坑遺産としてのビッグ・ピットBig Pit とブレナヴォン製鉄所である。私は共同研究者とともに、2011 年に大学院研究科長の特別研究費の助成を受けて、この世界遺産を訪れ、視察・調査を行った。この論文では、特にビッグ・ピットに焦点を当てて、炭坑の立地・歴史、炭坑で働いた人々の姿、国立石炭博物館の遺跡建物とマネジメント、などを概観し、分析する。Blaenavon Industrial Landscape in South Wales was designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000.The most importantindustrial heritages of this site are Blaenavon Ironworks and Big Pit.In 2012 I visited this site with my colleagues and surveyed theindustrial heritage of colliery and ironworks.This paper, focusing on Big Pit, describes the history of the colliery and the life of the peoplewho worked there, and discusses the buildings and management of Big Pit as National Coal Museum.

光干渉断層計(OCT)は,本邦には1997年より導入され,2006年にはスペクトラルドメイン(SD)OCTが市販となり網膜全層の詳細な観察が可能となった.2012年には更に光源を改良したスウェプトソース(SS)OCTが開発された.現在これらのSD-OCTおよびSS-OCTを用いて視機能の根幹である網膜外層,硝子体,脈絡膜,さらに強膜を観察することにより様々な網膜,とくに黄斑疾患の病態解明が進んでいる.本稿では症例を挙げながら概説する.

This paper presents a manual train operation assistance method for limiting braking power to avoid regeneration cancellation and to save train operation energy. This assistance system consists of on-board computers and interface devices. The braking assistance command is generated from a "dictionary" prepared to increase regenerated energy without any extension of train running time. In order to consider the power limitation and resolve assistance operation problems in terms of the operation delay time, this method was evaluated on a revenue service line. This paper proposes a "best effort method" for energy-saving train operation that does not use the conditions of other trains since train drivers cannot obtain information on the actual status of other trains in present railway systems. On-track tests showed that the power-limiting brake was effective on energy-saving for a train operation. The practical problem of the man machine interface for driver assistance was also intensively studied.

北海道中軸部の空知-蝦夷帯に広く分布する蝦夷層群は,白亜紀アプチアン~古第三紀暁新世の間に,サハリン南部から本州中部鹿島沖にまで続いた長大な前弧堆積盆にもたらされた堆積物で,北東アジアの海成層の模式層序となっており,当時の古環境変遷を復元するには重要な地層である.この巡検では,蝦夷層群が層序的に厚くかつ広域に分布する三笠-夕張地域において,陸海断面方向や時間層序学的にどのような堆積相変化を示すのかに注目して,セノマニアン~チューロニアン階の三笠層と佐久層,およびカンパニアン~暁新統の函淵層を中心に見学する.三笠層と函淵層では,様々な堆積構造を観察した上で,河川~浅海成堆積相や堆積シーケンスの特徴を把握する.また,三笠層の浅海生軟体動物群集やそのタフォノミーについても注目する.一方,東方同時異相である佐久層では,沖合成の泥質岩相やタービダイト相に加えて,セノマニアン/チューロニアン境界の海洋無酸素事変層準やアンモナイト群集の特徴も取り上げる.さらに,白亜紀のアンモナイトコレクションを三笠市立博物館で,古第三系始新統石狩層群の石炭層を夕張市石炭博物館で見学する.

Mesothelioma is a very aggressive malignant tumor with low survival rates that is often diagnosed belatedly. Pericardial effusion is a common consequence in cases of mesothelioma, with pericardiocentesis and pericardiectomy indicated; therefor thoracocentesis is necessary to drain the contents no longer retained in the pericardium. The present report describes a mesothelioma – carrying dog with a history of cardiac tamponade that underwent thoracoscopic pericardiectomy and, later, thoracoscopic implantation of a fully implantable catheter to function as a thoracic drain. In the consulted literature, there is no use of a fully implantable catheter for this purpose. The authors consider that there was an improvement in the quality of life.

掌蹠・腋窩多汗症患者10例に対して,入院の上,水道水イオントフォレーシスを行った.治療期間は約2週間,治療時間は各10~20分,1日1~3回連日施行した.効果判定は患者の自己評価に基づいて行った.手掌では,10例中著効6例,有効2例,やや有効2例,足底では,7例中著効1例,有効4例,やや有効2例,腋窩では,3例中著効2例,やや有効1例であった.また,各部位の全対象患者において無効例は認められず,本療法の有用性が示唆された.

In an 8-year-old Labrador Retriever with progressive anorexia, constipation, and depression, CT revealed intussusception of the cecum into the ascending colon and a small cecal mass showing strong enhancement on arterial phase. The ileocecocolic junction was surgically resected and histologically diagnosed as cecocolic intussusception with carcinoid tumor. The carcinoid tumor worked as a lead point of intussusception in this case. Dual phasic CT is useful to assess the presence of gastrointestinal tumors as lead points in old dogs with intussusception.

The purpose of this paper is to examine whether the university decentralization policy has influenced variations in the percentage of applicants for admission to universities between prefectures and to suggest the policy implication of the reconsideration of the policy which is being argued now. In the second section I investigate the articles which were concerned with the effect of the policy of correction of the variations in application rates. In the third section I analyze the time series change of the variations in acceptance and application rates between prefectures. And in the fourth section I make a regression analysis to examine the effect of the policy of correction of the variations in application rates. To conclude, the university decentralization policy has influenced the variation in application rates. But the university decentralization and the correction of variation in application rates have not progressed or retreated since 1986 because the policy has been weakened. If the university decentralization policy is removed, it is expected that the variations in application rates will expand. So I think that the reconsideration of the university decentralization policy should be argued fully from various view points.
