北九州市に住む50才の男性が集団検診で胸部の異常陰影を指摘され, 気管支鏡・x線などによる精査の結果肺癌の疑いで入院した. 開胸手術により摘出ざれた病巣は10.6×95mmの楕円形で境界が鮮明な肺組織の壊死と異物による肉芽腫であっで, 血管腔内に虫体の断面が確認された. 2個の線虫断端の径は216-240×296μmで角皮は少なくとも3層から成り, 角皮の外側には縦走隆起がなく, 内側に縦走隆起の横断像が認められた. 側索は筋層の高さに達し, 多数の筋細胞(1 quadrant 当り30個以上)が見られた. このような虫体断端の大きさと形態的特徴から大糸状虫Dirofilaria immitisの未成熟虫と判走され, 0uchterlony法と免疫電気泳動法を用いた免疫学的診断でもこの結果と一致したため, 本症は大糸状虫による肺肉芽腫と診断された. 患者の自宅周辺で媒介蚊の調査を行ったところヒトスジシマカが多く, この蚊の大糸状虫媒介の可能性について考察した.(1987年2月16日 受付)

Oral mucositis (OM) is a frequent adverse effect of allogenic or autologous hematopoietic SCT. It results from direct toxic injury to the mucosal epithelial cells by the immunosuppressive regimen. Here, we compared the incidence and severity of OM between a group of 24 patients who received proper oral management during hematopoietic SCT and a group of 24 who did not. The oral management group received pre-hematopoietic SCT instruction on oral care and an oral examination in the clean room. Differences in the incidence and severity of OM between the two groups were examined statistically. OM was observed in 14 (58.3%) patients in the oral management group and 22 (91.6%) in the control group. The median of the OM score was 1 for the oral management group (range 0 to 3) and 2 for the control group (range 0 to 3). There was a significant difference in the OM score (P<0.05) and in the incidence of OM between the two groups (P<0.01). This study shows that oral management may decrease the occurrence of OM. Our results also suggest that it is important to include an oral management provider on the hematopoietic SCT team.

Power efficiency and coverage preservation are two important performance metrics for a wireless sensor network. However, there is scarcely any protocol to consider them at the same time. In this paper, we propose a flow-balanced routing (FBR) protocol for multi-hop clustered wireless sensor networks that attempts to achieve both power efficiency and coverage preservation. The proposed protocol consists of four algorithms, one each for network clustering, multi-hop backbone construction, flow-balanced transmission, and rerouting. The proposed clustering algorithm groups several sensors into one cluster on the basis of overlapping degrees of sensors. The backbone construction algorithm constructs a novel multi-level backbone, which is not necessarily a tree, using the cluster heads and the sink. Furthermore, the flow-balanced routing algorithm assigns the transferred data over multiple paths from the sensors to the sink in order to equalize the power consumption of sensors. Lastly, the rerouting algorithm reconstructs the network topology only in a place where a head drops out from the backbone due to the head running out of its energy. Two metrics called the network lifetime and the coverage lifetime are used to evaluate the performance of FBR protocol in comparison with previous ones. The simulation results show that FBR yields both much longer lifetime and better coverage preservation than previous protocols. For example, FBR yields more than twice network lifetime and better coverage preservation than a previous efficient protocol, called the coverage-preserving clustering protocol (CPCP) [18], when the first sensor dies and the network coverage is kept at 100%, respectively.

This paper is concerned with coding theorems in the optimistic sense for separate coding of two correlated general sources X1 and X2. We investigate the achievable rate region Rtopt(X1,X2) such that the decoding error probability caused by two encoders and one decoder can be arbitrarily small infinitely often under a certain rate constraint. We give an inner and an outer bounds of Rtopt(X1,X2), where the outer bound is described by using new information-theoretic quantities. We also give two simple sufficient conditions under which the inner bound coincides with the outer bound.

2004年8月30日,九州から中国地方を進んだ台風第16号により,瀬戸内海沿岸では記録的な高潮が発生した.これにより,高松港や宇野港などでは既往最高潮位を更新した.この高潮事例について,潮位データの解析を行い,高潮モデルを用いて数値実験を行った.その結果,今回の高潮に最も寄与したのは吹き寄せ効果であり,台風の移動に伴って高潮域が瀬戸内海を東進する状況を再現できた.特に,この過程の中で,高松付近では最大偏差の発生時刻が台風第16号の最接近時より2時間程度遅れて,大潮期間の満潮時刻とほぼ一致したことが既往最高潮位につながったことがわかった.また,瀬戸内海の形状と台風の移動に伴う風向の変化を考慮することにより,瀬戸内海における吹き寄せ効果を6つの海域に分けて考えることができた.さらに,海域毎で吹き寄せ効果と吸い上げ効果の寄与の比率の違いについても評価した.その結果,それぞれの効果の顕著なタイミングは,台風の位置や風だけでなく,地形などの影響も受けて,海域毎に異なることがわかった.

洋上航空路の北太平洋ルートではADS(自動従属監視)システムが試験運用されている。ADSは機上で測定された位置情報等のデータをVHFまたは衛星を介して自動的に管制機関に送信して監視をおこなう技術である。このデータ通信の一方法として航空機間でVHF帯の通信を利用したデータリレー方式が検討されている。航空機がこの方式で通信できるかどうかは他機が通信覆域内に存在するかどうかによる。そこでまず実測データをもとに北太平洋ルートの特定空域内にいる航空機の数を調査した。次に通過時刻をもとに航空機の3次元位置を推定し、最も接近した航空機間の3次元距離を調査した。本稿ではその結果を報告する。
