近年、比較的低料金で宿泊可能な宿「ゲストハウス」の増加が指摘されている。ゲストハウスは安宿と言われる一方で、地域の人々と旅行者との接点を創出したり、個々人の居場所や遊び場となっていたりする。このような現象は、宿の役割や社会におけるツーリズムの意義を考察する上で示唆に富むと考えられる。しかしながら、ゲストハウスを事例にこのようなアプローチをとる観光研究は、発表者が管見した限り見当たらない。本発表では、ゲストハウス増加の要因とその開業・運営プロセスの分析を通じて、なぜ、今、ゲストハウスが増加し、特に若年層を中心に受け入れられているのかを明らかにする。その上で、ゲストハウス増加からみえる社会的課題、とりわけコミュニティの空洞化とツーリズムに関わる課題と可能性について考察する。

The biological antioxidant activities of bromophenols (5-bromo-3, 4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde and 5-bromo-3, 4-dihydroxy benzylalcohol), protocatechualdehyde and vanillyl octadecanamide were compared with α-tocopherol in vitro and in vivo. All of these antioxidants significantly inhibited the lipid peroxidation in microsomal suspensions induced by ascorbate/Fe(II) or NADPH. By removing the non-binding free antioxidants from the suspensions, the inhibitory activities markedly decreased in antioxidants other than α-tocopherol; however, considerable activity was still observed. The effects of orally administered antioxidants on the symptoms of vitamin E deficiency were examined using rats fed with a vitamin E-free diet and supplemented with oxidized oils. As a result and contrary to the effects in vitro, all of the antioxidants were much less effective in liver. However, some of the vitamin E-deficient symptoms such as organic solvent-soluble fluorescent materials in the heart and lung, and oxidative hemolysis were significantly suppressed by some antioxidants.

It has been generally accepted that Buddhism is the teachings of Buddha by which all sentient beings can become buddhas. This general understanding among the Buddhists led to the continual compilation of the Buddhist scriptures called sutras even after the Buddha Sakyamuni had entered into his perfect peacefulness (parinirvrta), and at length gave rise to Mahayana Buddhism, great teaching of Buddha that can convey all sentient beings from the world of suffering to the sphere of supreme enlightenment. This paper takes up several typical and famous examples from among Mahayana Sutra Literature and attempts to elucidate how the followers of Buddha have interpreted "the Buddha's real intention" in relation to the difference of time, place, and the people concerned.

In recent years, local pattern based features have attracted increasing interest in object detection and recognition systems. Local Binary Pattern (LBP) feature is widely used in texture classification and face detection. But the original definition of LBP is not suitable for human detection. In this paper, we propose a novel feature named gradient local binary patterns (GLBP) for human detection. In this feature, original 256 local binary patterns are reduced to 56 patterns. These 56 patterns named uniform patterns are used for generating a 56-bin histogram. And gradient value of each pixel is set as the weight which is always same in LBP based features in histogram calculation to computing the values in 56 bins for histogram. Experiments are performed on INRIA dataset, which shows the proposal GLBP feature is discriminative than histogram of orientated gradient (HOG), Semantic Local Binary Patterns (S-LBP) and histogram of template (HOT). In our experiments, the window size is fixed. That means the performance can be improved by boosting methods. And the computation of GLBP feature is parallel, which make it easy for hardware acceleration. These factors make GLBP feature possible for real-time pedestrian detection.
