This study aimed to vertically scale the mathematics and Japanese academic ability tests of the Japan Child Panel Survey (JCPS) for elementary school first year students through junior high school third year students (grades 1-9 in the U.S.). We used an anchoring test design based on the item response theory. Two test samples were used: JCPS test participants (n = 3,916) and anchoring test participants (n = 7,210). After estimating the item parameters with a two-parameter logistic item response model, the equating coefficients were estimated with the Haebara method. The tests were scaled for elementary school fifth year (grade 5) in the end. The number of items included in the final analyses was 94 for mathematics and 108 for Japanese language studies. The mean level of estimated individual latent academic ability progressed according to grade level. Therefore, the JCPS tests appear to be able to capture the developmental changes of students from elementary school to junior high school. Future research should examine the relationship between children’s academic development and various factors, such as psychological traits or family environment, using the JCPS research data.

This study examined the effect of the position of answer category “neither” of a rating scale (applicable/not applicable) of a self-administered questionnaire on the subjects' response rate, ease of answering, and misunderstanding of answer options in the case of a web survey. An eye tracking experiment was conducted on 56 university students. Fifty responses were analyzed and 6 were excluded due to insufficient data. The results showed that: (1) when “neither”is placed at the far right of the rating scale, the response rate is lower than when at the center; (2) when “neither” is placed at the far right, some participants mistakenly thought it displayed the most negative answer of “not applicable” because they did not observe the right side carefully; and (3) participants who correctly recognized the position of “neither” on the right had a higher fixation counts on the answer options and larger eye movements than those who did not recognize it.

Microvascular surgery has been practised in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of Chiba University Hospital since 1975, and the first successful replantation of a completely amputated a ring finger of a 16-year-old boy was performed in August 1975. Up to April 1978, we have had 30 cases of severed limbs and fingers, including complete or incomplete amputations of 30 digits, amputation or vascular injury of 3 forearms, and each case of complete amputation of wrist, midpalm, and ankle. In these cases, 8 digits, a forearm and an ankle failed to replant. The final success rate of our replantation was 72.2 per cent. We presented 4 typical cases of replantation. Our microsuture technique was described, and the indication of replantation and the experiment or clinical application of microvascular surgery were discussed.

本研究では、経済格差と教育格差の因果関係に関するエビデンスを発見するために、親子を対象とした質の高い長期データ基盤を構築し、実証研究と実験研究を実施した。さらに、経済格差と教育格差に関する国際比較研究を実施した。具体的には、テスト理論により等化された学力データを活用し、学力格差と経済格差の相関の国際比較、親の価値観が子どもの非認知能力に与える影響の日米比較の実験研究、子ども手当が親の教育支出や子どもの学力に与える影響に関する因果分析等を実施した。

県営かんがい排水事業夜間瀬地区で建設した剣沢ダムは, 上信越高原国立公園や水源酒養保安林に指定されている貴重な自然環境の中に位置する均一型アースフィルダムである。こうした環境下における工事 (とくにダム周辺整備) の内容を報告するとともに, 表土・岩石などの天然材料を有効に使用することで, 自然環境を可能なかぎり保全する手法を提案する。

The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of consumer's purchase plans, price type POP advertising presentation and image type POP advertising presentation on in-store consumer behaviors from the points of item choices and contact with advertising. We carried out an survey interview for 263 consumers in a supermarket in Higashiosaka city and analyzed the data according to the experimental design: 2 (consumer's having some purchase plans or not) × 2 (being present of price type POP advertising or not) × 2 (being present of image type POP advertising or not). The results showed that price type POP advertising and image type POP advertising had different kinds of effects. It was suggested that the former promoted rational consumer behaviors and the latter promoted emotional consumer behaviors in item choices. We found the effects of contact with advertising on sales promotion only in price type POP advertising. We also found that consumer's purchase plans and a condition of POP advertising presentation had interaction effects on item choices and contact with advertising.
