This paper describes a new architecture-based microprocessor, a dynamically programmable parallel processor (DPPP), that consists of large numbers of simplified ALUs (sALU) as processing blocks. All sALUs are interconnected via a code division multiple-access bus interface that provides complete routing flexibility by establishing connections virtually through code-matching instead of physical wires. This feature is utilized further to achieve high parallelism and fault tolerance. High fault tolerance is realized without the limitations of conventional fabrication-based techniques nor providing spare elements. Another feature of the DPPP is its simple programmability, as it can be configured by compiling numerical formula input using the provided user auto-program interface. A prototype chip based on the proposed architecture has been implemented on a 4.5 mm × 4.5 mm chip using 0.6 µm CMOS process.

This paper modestly expands an invited talk at ISSS-8 with the same title. After reviewing the relevant interactions between adsorbates on substrates with metallic surface states [especially Cu(111)], it focuses on organic adsorbates. Of particular interest are those which form honeycomb lattices with pores of various sizes. Neuropathic pain, a highly debilitating chronic pain following nerve damage, is a reflection of the aberrant functioning of a pathologically altered nervous system. Previous studies have implicated activated microglia in the spinal dorsal horn (SDH) as key cellular intermediaries in neuropathic pain. Microgliosis is among the dramatic cellular alterations that occur in the SDH in models of neuropathic pain established by peripheral nerve injury (PNI), but detailed characterization of SDH microgliosis has yet to be realized. In the present study, we performed a short-pulse labeling of proliferating cells with ethynyldeoxyuridine (EdU), a marker of the cell cycle S-phase, and found that EdU+ microglia in the SDH were rarely observed 32 h after PNI, but rapidly increased to the peak level at 40 h post-PNI. Numerous EdU+ microglia persisted for the next 20 h (60 h post-PNI) and decreased to the baseline on day 7. These results demonstrate a narrow time window for rapidly inducing a proliferation burst of SDH microglia after PNI, and these temporally restricted kinetics of microglial proliferation may help identify the molecule that causes microglial activation in the SDH, which is crucial for understanding and managing neuropathic pain.

Acarbose and voglibose are the most widely used diabetes drugs as glycosidase inhibitors. In this study, the use of these two inhibitors significantly increased the content of starch in large intestine, and altered the concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) by affecting the intestinal microbiota. However, there are some differences in the intestinal microbiome of the two groups of mice, mainly in bacteria such as Bacteroidaceae bacteroides and Desulfovibrionaceae desulfovibrio. The productions of acetate and propionate in caecum in voglibose group were significantly higher than those in acarbose group and two kinds of glycosidase inhibitors were close in the production of butyrate in caecum. The Tax4Fun analysis based on Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) data indicated that different productions of acetate and propionate between acarbose group and voglibose group may be related to 2-oxoisovalerate dehydrogenase and pyruvate oxidase. In addition, in-vitro experiments suggested that voglibose had less effect on epithelial cells than acarbose after direct stimulation. According to the recent researches of SCFAs produced by intestinal microbiota, our comparative study shown higher concentration of these beneficial fatty acids in the lumen of voglibose-treated mice, which implied a lower level of inflammation.

混合型の自動氷晶核測定装置を用いて,1967年9月から1970年12月まで,気象研究所の構内で連続的に大気中の氷晶核濃度を測定した。得られた資料のうち最も測定の連続している1968年4月から1970年3月までの二年間を選んで,濃度の変化について検討した。<BR>その結果,10分間隔で測定された-20℃核の平均氷晶核濃度の季節変化は,冬季には66.2個/<I>l</I>と最も高く,夏季には7.6個/lと低く,春季と秋季は20数個/<I>l</I>で似たような価であった。また梅雨入りから梅雨あけまでと9月から10月にかけての秋霖期の平均濃度には顕著な差はみられなかった。<BR>月別の氷晶核濃度は,1月,2月,12月に高く,6月,7月,8月に低かった。特に8月は年間の最低値3.8個/<I>l</I>を示し,月によって大きく変化していることがわかった。季節別に濃度の日変化をみると,変化のカーブは,夏季に比較して冬季の方が変動が大きく,しかも,冬季には濃度は夜間に低く,昼間に高い傾向がはっきりしていた。<BR>氷晶核濃度のばらつきを季節別に調べてみると,濃度の分布の標準偏差植は夏に最も大きく,冬季に最も小さかった。すなわち,夏季のばらつきが年間を通して一番大きいことがわかった。<BR>以上の結果について気象学的な検討を加えた。この報告書は,氷晶核濃度が過去と現在でどのような変化を示しているのか,その年々の変化を知るための第一段階のものである。

[Purpose] The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of virtual reality training using Nintendo Wii on balance and walking for stroke patients. [Subjects and Methods] Forty stroke patients with stroke were randomly divided into two exercise program groups: virtual reality training (n=20) and treadmill (n=20). The subjects underwent their 40-minute exercise program three times a week for eight weeks. Their balance and walking were measured before and after the complete program. We measured the left/right weight-bearing and the anterior/posterior weight-bearing for balance, as well as stance phase, swing phase, and cadence for walking. [Results] For balance, both groups showed significant differences in the left/right and anterior/posterior weight-bearing, with significant post-program differences between the groups. For walking, there were significant differences in the stance phase, swing phase, and cadence of the virtual reality training group. [Conclusion] The results of this study suggest that virtual reality training providing visual feedback may enable stroke patients to directly adjust their incorrect weight center and shift visually. Virtual reality training may be appropriate for patients who need improved balance and walking ability by inducing their interest for them to perform planned exercises on a consistent basis.

本研究の目的は、高い汎用性を持つ小型高性能なハプティックインタフェースの開発及びその応用である。具体的には、小さな設置面積、広い作業領域、高い応答帯域を実現する6自由度のハプティックインタフェースと様々な計算機に容易に接続可能な汎用性の高い制御装置の実現、及びこのハプティックインタフェースの宇宙遠隔操作への応用である。本研究の成果は以下のように要約される。1.パラレル機構の剛性を機構パラメータの関数として計算するための新しい解析モデルを作成した。これにより、機構パラメータの変更に伴うパラレル機構の剛性変化を容易に予測することが可能となり、よって、剛性面でのハプティックインタフェースの最適化が可能となった。2.剛性の特性が大幅に改善されたハプティックインタフェースの設計、試作を行った。上記の解析モデルの援用並びにこれまでの試作経験に基づき、従来の試作機の特性を大幅に上回る特性を有するハプティックインタフェースの試作に成功した。試作したハプティックインタフェースの設計図はインターネットにより一般に公開予定である。3.本研究で開発したハプティックインタフェースの応用として、宇宙遠隔操作を取り上げ、研究を実施した。このハプティックインタフェースにより、技術試験衛星VII型搭載ロボットアームの遠隔操作実験を行い、その特長である小型軽量及び広可動範囲のの有効性を実証した。また、宇宙遠隔操作の地上実験装置として双腕ロボットシステムを開発し、マスタデバイスに、このハプティックインタフェースを採用し、その有用性を示した。

Formation of the basic antibiotic, K-582 was stimulated by supplying <i>Metarrhizium anisopliae</i> U-47 with several amino acids present in its structure. The addition of L-arginine to the basal medium resulted in the almost exclusive formation of K-582 B, while L-lysine increased K-582 A formation. Some carbon sources were observed to have effects similar to those obtained with the above mentioned amino acids. Furthermore, when L-arginine was added in excess to the basal medium, free &gamma;-hydroxyarginine, which is a major constituent of the antibiotic, accumulated extra- and intra-cellularly. Free &gamma;-hydroxyarginine isolated from the culture broth of this microorganism was the <i>threo</i>-L-isomer. K-582 formation was repressed by glycerol, which exerted catabolite repression of &gamma;-hydroxyarginine synthesis.

For treatment of severe bimaxillary protrusion in adults, a condition known to be among the most difficult to manage, both the maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth must be fully retracted using all the extraction space available. This article reports the treatment of an adult with severe high-angle bimaxillary protrusion. To correct the protrusion of the anterior teeth, orthodontic anchor screws (OASs) were used to provide absolute anchorage during anterior retraction. Acceptable occlusion, facial profile, and balance were achieved. OASs appear to be very useful for treatment of severe bimaxillary protrusion in adults.

Double-viewing-position single-particle inductively coupled plasma–atomic emission spectrometry (DVP-SP-ICP-AES) measures emission intensity at two ICP vertical positions simultaneously using a single photomultiplier tube. A particle travelling up the ICP gives two consecutive temporal emission peaks. The Yb II 328.937-nm emission intensity of the two peaks for single Yb2O3 particles of diameter of 200 – 2000 nm are plotted against each other in a correlation plot. The correlation is poor when the gas temperature at the lower observation position is approximately the boiling point of the particles. Poor particle vaporization at the center of the central channel occurs because the gas temperature is 400 K lower than the temperature at the rim. The correlation is improved by shifting the observation positions up or using helium–argon mixed carrier gas to increase the gas temperature. Gas temperature is an important parameter for precise single particle-ICP measurements. DVP-SP-ICP-AES can be used to identify poor particle vaporization without the need of temperature measurement.

研究動向本論文の目的は,児童青年期の怒りに対する認知行動療法に関する展望を行うことであった。まず,児童青年期の怒りに関連する代表的な診断基準として,秩序破壊的・衝動制御・素行症群や抑うつ障害群について概観したうえで,怒りに関連した診断基準に最も近いものとして,重篤気分調節症が紹介された。次に,怒りに関連する代表的な理論として,学習理論,社会的情報処理モデル,ストレス相互作用説,認知モデルに関する説明を行った。さらに,それらの理論に基づく介入技法として,社会的スキル訓練,問題解決スキル訓練,自己教示訓練,リラクセーション,認知再構成法が紹介された。続いて,児童青年期の怒りに対するメタ分析の結果と代表的な治療プロトコルの概要が紹介された。その後,児童青年期の怒りに関する自己記入式のアセスメントの展望が行われた。最後に,児童青年期の怒りの問題点として,診断基準の洗練化,アセスメントにおける構成概念の混同,怒りに関連する認知的側面に関する基礎研究とそれに基づく介入の必要性が議論された。

ミツバチ科マルハナバチに属するエゾオオマルハナバチBombus hypocrita sapporoensisは、特定外来種であるセイヨウオオマルハナバチの代替花粉交配用昆虫として注目されている。今回我われは、本種の農業利用を進めるための遺伝育種学的解析に必要なマイクロサテライトDNAマーカーの適用性を検討した。120種類のマーカーのうち、57種類が多型解析に利用できることがわかった。さらに8種類のプライマーは、マルチプレックスPCRによる同時解析が可能であることを明らかにした。これらのツールキットを利用して女王蜂の受精嚢内から単離した精子DNAの解析を行ったところ、交配雄蜂の遺伝子型を特定できることがわかった。 The Bumblebee is a eusocial Hymenoptera with an annual life cycle and is often utilized as an agricultural pollinator. We developed an polymorphic microsatellite DNA toolkit for the Japanese bumblebee Bombus hypocrita sapporoensis using multiplex PCR. At 57 of these 120 loci, high allelic variation was observed in 20 individual males. In addition to a method of spermathecae PCR, we developed 8 polymorphic microsatellite DNA toolkit for the B. h. sapporoensis. These results suggest that high-throughput genotyping method can be used to gain more information regarding breeding systems and for more deeply understanding social evolution in the B. h. sapporoensis.

How to provide effective prevention and treatment of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and study of the mechanism underlying I/R injury are hotspots of current research. This study aimed to elucidate the effect and cardioprotective mechanism of vitamin C (VC) on myocardial I/R injury. Our study introduced two different I/R models: I/R in vitro and oxygen–glucose deprivation/recovery (OGD/R) in primary neonatal rat cardiac myocytes. We used the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) opener lonidamine (LND) and the mitochondrial KATP (mitoKATP) channel inhibitor 5-hydroxydecanoate (5-HD) to analyze the underlying mechanisms. We found that post-treatment with VC decreased I/R injury in our models. Post-treatment with VC significantly decreased I/R-induced injury, attenuated apoptosis, and maintained the functional integrity of mitochondria via alleviation of Ca2+ overload, reactive oxygen species burst, inhibition of the opening of mPTP, and prevention of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm) depolarization. VC post-treatment increased the phosphorylation of Akt and glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3β. The present results demonstrate that VC might protect the myocardium from I/R-induced injury by inhibiting the mPTP opening via activation of mitoKATP channels. VC mediates cardioprotection via activation of the phosphatidyl inositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-Akt signaling pathway. These findings may contribute toward the development of novel strategies for clinical cardioprotection against I/R injury.

The kinetic power and efficiency equations for general jet propulsion systems are classically given in a much cursory, incomplete, and ununified format. This situation prohibits the propulsion designer from seeing the panorama of interrelated propulsion parameters and effects. And in some cases, it may lead to an energy-inefficient propulsion system design, or induce significant offset in propulsion performance as demonstrated in this study. Thus, herein we attempt to clarify some related concepts and to rigorously derive the associated generalized equations with a complete spectrum of physical parameters to be manipulated in quest of better performance. By a highly efficient interweaved transport scheme, we have derived the following equations for general jet propulsion systems: i.e., generalized total kinetic power, generalized kinetic power delivered to the jet propulsion system, generalized thrust power, generalized available propulsion power, and relevant generalized propulsive, thermal, and overall efficiency equations. Further, the variants of these equations under special conditions are also considered. For taking advantage of the above propulsion theories, we also illustrate some novel propulsion strategies in the final discussion, such as the dive-before-climb launch of rocket from highland mountain on eastbound rail, with perhaps minisatellites as the payloads.
