次世代の豪雨強風監視システムとして,防災科学技術研究所が複数の研究機関,大学と連携して進めているXバンドレーダネットワーク(X-NET)の概要について述べた.2007昨年度に準備を終了し,2008年と2009年の試験観測を通じて以下の項目に焦点を当てた研究をおこなう.•首都圏上空の雨と風の3次元分布(時間分解能6分,空間分解能は数100m~500m)の瞬時集約と配信.•上記の情報に基づく豪雨域,強風域の検出と監視.•外そう法による降水ナウキャスト,およびデータ同化した雲解像数値モデルによる降水短時間予測.•局地気象擾乱の構造,発生過程,発生機構の理解.•都市型災害の発生予測手法の高度化.•気象学,防災研究,気象教育,建築,都市,交通,電力,通信,情報,レジャー産業などの様々な分野における基礎的な気象データベース作成.

This paper introduces a framework called generalized N-dimensional principal component analysis (GND-PCA) for statistical appearance modeling of facial images with multiple modes including different people, different viewpoint and different illumination. The facial images with multiple modes can be considered as high-dimensional data. GND-PCA can represent the high-order dimensional data more efficiently. We conduct extensive experiments on MaVIC Database (KAO-Ritsumeikan Multi-angle View, Illumination and Cosmetic Facial Database) to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and compared the conventional ND-PCA in terms of reconstruction error. The results indicated that the extraction of data features is computationally more efficient using GND-PCA than PCA and ND-PCA.

An intergeneric hybrid was successfully developed between Oryza sativa L. (IRRI 154) and Leersia perrieri (A. Camus) Launert using embryo rescue technique in this study. A low crossability value (0.07%) implied that there was high incompatibility between the two species of the hybrid. The F1 hybrid showed intermediate phenotypic characteristics between the parents but the plant height was very short. The erect plant type resembled the female parent IRRI 154 but the leaves were similar to L. perrieri. Cytological analysis revealed highly non-homology between chromosomes of the two species as the F1 plants showed 24 univalents without any chromosome pairing. The F1 hybrid plant was further confirmed by PCR analysis using the newly designed 11 indel markers showing polymorphism between O. sativa and L. perrieri. This intergeneric hybrid will open up opportunities to transfer novel valuable traits from L. perrieri into cultivated rice.

In a strongly correlated material VO_2 (3d^1, half filling), undergoing the insulator-to-metal transition (IMT, or metal-to-insulator transition (MIT)) and the structural phase transition near T_c=340 K, the mechanism of the IMT is still controversial due to unclear mechanism inducing the IMT. In particular, the correlated Coulomb interaction between electrons is not understood in experimental data. This is attributed to insufficient theoretical analysis in the Mott transition. In this presentation, impurity effect, observed by temperature dependences of both Hall effect and optical conductivity (new data is here shown), is theoretically analyzed on the basis of pseudopotential and Hubbard model. In conclusion, a result that the impurities break the critical Coulomb interaction is obtained; this is an impurity-induced IMT.

Sitosterolemia is a rare inherited disease characterized by increased levels of plant sterols, such as sitosterol. The cause of this disease is ATP-binding cassette (ABC) subfamily G member 5 or member 8 (ABCG5 or ABCG8, respectively) gene mutations. Recent advances in genetics have revealed that the prevalence of subjects with deleterious mutations in ABCG5 and/or ABCG8 genes could be more than 1 in ~200,000 individuals among the general population. Furthermore, accumulated evidence, including infantile cases exhibiting progression/regression of systemic xanthomas associated with LDL cholesterol levels, have shown that the elevation of LDL cholesterol seems to be the major cause of development of atherosclerosis and not the elevation of sitosterol. Regarding therapies, LDL apheresis, as well as proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors, could be useful for sitosterolemia, in addition to ezetimibe and/or colestimide. In this study, we provide the current understanding and future perspectives of sitosterolemia, which is currently considered an extremely rare disorder but is expected to be much more prevalent in clinical settings.

セスキテルペンラクトン (STL) はキク科植物に主に見られる二次代謝産物である。多くのSTLは生理学的、薬理学的な重要性を持つにも関わらず、それらの生合成に関する知見は乏しい。我々はSTL生合成研究の第一歩として、最も単純な構造を持つSTLであり、多様なSTLの前駆体であると考えられているcostunolideを対象として研究を行った。<br> Costunolideはセスキテルペノイドの共通前駆体であるファルネシル二リン酸(FPP)からgermacrene Aとgermacrene A acid (GAA) を経由して生合成される。これまでに、FPPからGAAに至る生合成酵素遺伝子の単離はなされている一方で、GAAからcostunolideへのラクトン環形成に関わるP450遺伝子は未同定であった。我々はヒマワリのトライコームESTライブラリーからGAAを基質とする新規P450遺伝子を単離すると共に、そのホモログとしてレタスから、目的とするcostunolide合成酵素遺伝子の単離に成功した。更に、costunolide生合成系をFPP高生産酵母中で再構成する事により、costunolideの酵母中におけるde novo合成に成功した。また、ヒマワリの新規P450とレタスのcostunolide合成酵素遺伝子の反応産物の構造からSTLのラクトン環形成についての新たな知見が得られた。

Fossilia Mastodi Ossis, which is a skeletal fossil of a Mastodon, an ancient mammal, has been found to have anxiolytic, sedative and anticonvulsant activities in Oriental medicine. In this study, in vivo characterization of the sedative activities of Fossilia Mastodi OSSIS was performed in order to obtain basic information for the development of a putative natural sedative. The 80% methanol extract of Fossilia Mastodi OSSIS given per os at a dose of 3g/kg in mice showed anxiolysis, potentiation of pentobarbital sleeping time, reduced locomotor activity, and anticonvulsive activity. Fossilia elicited GABA_A receptor-mediated anxiolysis. The data obtained suggest that the 80% methanol extract of Fossilia Mastodi OSSIS contains some biologically active principles with sedative activity.

[Purpose] This study developed a reciprocal hip exercise using Thera-Band for those with flat lumbar spines and observed changes in standing and movement angles during sit-to-stand. [Participants and Methods] Eleven females participated in this study. The participants performed the reciprocal hip exercise using Thera-Band. [Results] The trunk flexion angle increased significantly after reciprocal hip exercise. The sit-to-stand time after reciprocal hip exercise was significantly faster than that before exercise. [Conclusion] The reciprocal hip exercise would useful for patients with flat back who can then sit and work for long periods.

We have previously shown that abnormal iron metabolism might be one underlying mechanism of the renal damage observed in the angiotensin II-infused rat. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is known to play a crucial role in the development of renal damage induced by activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effects of an iron chelator and a free radical scavenger on the angiotensin II-induced upregulation of TGF-β1 in the kidney. Rats were given angiotensin II (0.7 mg/kg/day) via osmotic minipumps for 7 days. The expressions of the mRNAs of TGF-β1 and collagen types I and IV were significantly increased in response to angiotensin II treatment. Histologic analysis showed that TGF-β1 expression was upregulated mainly in tubular epithelial cells, and occasionally in glomerular and perivascular cells, some of which were identified as monocytes and/or macrophages. Although tubular cells that overexpressed TGF-β1 did not contain iron particles, angiotensin II-induced TGF-β1 upregulation was suppressed by the iron chelator and the free radical scavenger. The free radical scavenger also suppressed angiotensin II-induced upregulation of heme oxygenase-1, an oxidative-stress sensitive gene. By contrast, administration of iron dextran to rats induced upregulation of TGF-β1 mRNA. Collectively, these data suggest that the renal iron overload and presumed subsequent increase in oxidative stress play a role in angiotensin II-induced upregulation of the mRNAs of TGF-β1 and collagen types I and IV in the kidney. The aim of this study was to develop a practical method to analyze tetrodotoxin (TTX), quantitatively, from postmortem specimens, not only blood and urine, but also organs. Extraction was achieved with 2% acetic acid and the use of an anion-exchange solid-phase extraction (SPE) cartridge. The quantitation method was a standard addition method with a calibration curve consisting of at least 3 points and an internal standard, voglibose (VOG). Separation by LC-MS/MS was achieved using a Luna HILIC (Phenomenex) column. The mobile phase was acetonitrile: 5 mM ammonium formate buffer (95:5), delivered at 0.2 mL/min. The selected reaction monitoring (SRM) transitions for TTX and VOG were m/z 320>302 and m/z 268>92, respectively. Cleaner extracts were achieved by using a lipid removal cartridge and washing with heptane. The addition of steps to remove interfering components that are prominent in postmortem samples aided in successful analysis. The HILIC column improved the retention of TTX to greater than 2 min to avoid the area where ion suppression has its greatest effect. Also, the use of anion-exchange SPE lessened the influence of acetic acid used during extraction. By using this method, we were able to quantitate low levels of TTX in postmortem specimens.

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to learn about the effects of a home-oriented program based on sensorimotor activities on executive and motor functions in children with ADHD. [Participants and Methods] In this study, a home-based sensorimotor program was conducted for two male children diagnosed with ADHD. The participants performed the program with their parents four times a week, for forty minutes each time, over a 12-week period. The participants’executive functions and gross motor skills were evaluated using the Children’s Color Trails Test (CCTT) and the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-2 (BOT-2). [Results] After participating in the home-based sensorimotor program, the participants showed improvements in both their executive and motor functions. [Conclusion] This study confirmed that a home-based sensorimotor program was effective in improving executive and motor functions in children with ADHD. This conclusion suggests the need to develop various exercise programs that can relieve the symptoms of ADHD in children and improve their abilities to adapt at home or school.

It is well known dietary lactic acid bacteria (LAB) stimulates cell-mediated immunity such as natural killer (NK) activity in mice. Here, we aimed to assay the immunomodulatory effects of a cell preparation of Enterococcus faecalis strain KH-2 (CPEF). We further evaluated the possibility of antitumour activity caused by CPEF administration, because NK cells actively participate in the prevention of tumour formation. NK cell activity and gene expression of IFN-γ and Perforin 1, which were induced most likely by a synergetic action of their cytotoxic activity, were higher in splenocytes of CPEF-administered mice than they were in control mice. Moreover, unlike those of control mice, the splenocytes of CPEF-administered mice had significantly higher CD28+CD69+/CD4+ and CD28+CD69+/CD8+ ratios that resulted in a survival rate with a tendency toward improvement after 47 days of CPEF administration (p=0.1) in Meth-A fibrosarcoma-bearing mice. In conclusion, we showed that CPEF might be effective in treating Meth-A fibrosarcoma in mice, as it helped increase their survival rate via stimulation of an immune response in splenocytes, which involved systemic cellular immunity processes such as cytotoxic activity, and active T cells.
