The relationship between the degree of ikigai (the Japanese word for one's sense of purpose in life: Kumano, 2005) and views on life and death were investigated. Participants were 1,137 college students (635 males and 502 females). The degree of ikigai was evaluated by using the Purpose In Life test (PIL test) developed by Crumbaugh and Maholick (1964, 1969). We used Part-A of this questionnaire that is composed of 20 questions. Additionally, views on life and death were assessed by a questionnaire composed of five questions that was developed by he authors, which referred to life after death, reincarnation, life lesson, soul mate, and the law of causality hypotheses. Results indicated that the mean PIL score for both sexes was 92.1±16.6, with the mean female score being higher than the male. The histograms of responses to the views on life and death questions indicated bimodal distributions, i.e., responses tended to be “believe or not believe.”Females tended to choose “believe the hypotheses” more often compared to males. The group that responded “Yes” to the questionnaire on the views on life and death tended to have a higher PIL score than those that responded “No”. These results suggest that people who believe the spiritual hypotheses tended to have higher ikigai.

In this paper, I have attempted to research and analyze the discourse of cultural propaganda during the Pacific War. As there is little previous research on these discourses, I worked on unearthing wartime material. In Chapter Two, I analyzed the discourse on Southern cultural propaganda. As a case study for further analysis, I specifically focused on discourse on the Dutch East Indies before the start of the Pacific War. From the aforementioned examination, I have precipitated the basic structure of cultural propaganda discourse. In Chapter Three, I analyzed the discourse around cultural work starting from after the beginning of the Pacific War and paying particular attention to the keywords of ethnic groups. In the discussion of this section, I followed the trends that this discourse on cultural propaganda will reflect in the ideology of the Pacific War. Finally, I analyzed the discourse surrounding the relationship between literary figures and cultural propaganda at that time. In conclusion, I pointed out that through these discourses, literary figures have contributed to uplifting the war and gained sociality.

戦争は、戦争を体験したあらゆる世代に深い傷を残すが、戦争が終わり、戦争を体験していない子どもたちが、戦争を経験した者と生活を共にする場合、様々な有形・無形の影響を受けている可能性がある。また、これらの子どもたちにとって、戦争を経験した者の体験や記憶をいかに受け継ぎ、次の世代に引き継いでいくのかということも重要なテーマと思われる。本論では、筆者が幼少期から思春期にかけて滞在した欧州で第一次・第二次世界大戦を経験した戦争体験者との記憶と体験をてがかりに、戦争や、人間、社会のあり方について論じてみたい。

第一次世界大戦後の対応を迫られるなか,野党として,憲政会の幹事長はいかなる政治活動を展開したのか。本稿は1919年から1920年にかけて,その任に就いた関和知の政治演説を分析する。パリ講和会議での交渉失敗を批判し,呂運亨と政府の関係を問題視するなど,その内容はもっぱら外交面に偏りをもつ。また,議会における首相・原敬との対決はマスメディアに大きく報道され,世間へのアピールという点で野党幹事長としての役割を果たした。他方,普通選挙を前面に押し出すのが遅れ,また,「独立の生計」を営む者という条件をつけたことにより憲政会の足並みは乱れていた。このため,彼の政治演説は内政批判において精彩を欠き,ことさら外交における失政を追及するといういびつなものとなった。

In The Two Homelands by Yamasaki Toyoko, there is a detailed description of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, and this study attempts to examine how the Evidence Phase by the USSR, on October 8, 1947, is reproduced in the work. The full text of the evidence is available in The Stenographic Record of International Military Tribunal for the Far East (1968, Yushodo Shoten). In this research, comparing the original evidence in the Stenographic Record and the text reproduced in The Two Homelands revealed that much of it was quoted extensively.

In The Two Homelands by Yamasaki Toyoko, there is detailed description of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East. This study attempts to examine how the opening statement by a defense attorney, Kiyose Ichiro, on February 24,1947, was reproduced in the work. The full text of the opening statement is available in Kiyose Ichiro’s Hiroku, Tokyo Saiban (The Secret Records of the Tokyo Trials). In this research, comparing Kiyose’s original statement and the text reproduced in The Two Homelands revealed that much of statement was quoted extensively.

日本にとって,国家の命運がかかった太平洋戦争は,日本海軍連合艦隊司令部の事実上の解体,原爆投下,ソ連侵攻などを経て,天皇陛下の聖断という形をもって幕を閉じた。本稿では,日本海軍が開戦までにどのような終戦構想を描き,開戦前にはそれがどのような変化を遂げて,終戦の聖断へと至ったのか。その流れを,主として高木惣吉の文献を通じて考察した。

The aims of this paper were to examine the structures of the human body and how they perform during singing and to explain the state of the body and posture. This paper also describes optional postures and how to achieve those postures.In order to produce a singing voice with a rich sound, a singer must:A. Enlarge resonance cavities to their maximum size and B. Breathe from the abdomen and keep breathing steadily. Optional posture A: 1. Lower the base of the tongue, 2. Raise the soft palate and connect the cavities in the mouth and nose.Optional posture B: Pull the diaphragm down sufficiently and try not to immediately return it to its original position when exhaling.

扁桃周囲膿瘍, 深頸部膿瘍ともに致死性を有する疾患で耳鼻咽喉科医として理解しておかなければならない疾患である. 疾患の理解のためには浅頸筋膜, 深頸筋膜浅葉・中葉・深葉からなる筋膜と舌骨上と下に区分される間隙についての解剖を理解する必要がある. 傍咽頭間隙が深頸部の中心的な間隙であり, 縦隔と連続する間隙が臨床的に重要である. 扁桃周囲膿瘍, 咽後膿瘍, 傍咽頭間隙膿瘍, 顎下間隙膿瘍のいずれも治療の際に外科的治療,気道確保を念頭におかなければならない.
