Both adult females and males of Argulus mongolianus Tokioka, 1939 were collected from the buccal cavity wall and body surface of freshwater fishes in Lake Izunuma and Lake Uchinuma, Miyagi Prefecture, northen Honshu, Japan. The original description of the species was insufficient, based on a single female from Inner Mongolia, China, and no further description has been made to date. Thus, this paper redescribes A. mongolianus based on the newly-collected specimens, including the first description of the male. This represents the first record of A. mongolianus from Japan. The infected fishes were largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides (Lacepède, 1802), common carp, Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758, Japanese white crucian carp, Carassius cuvieri Temminck and Schlegel, 1846, and silver crucian carp, Carassius sp. The three species other than common carp are new host records for A. mongolianus. This parasite was most probably introduced with an unspecified freshwater fish from China into Japan.

本研究では、律令国家最北の支配拠点である秋田城の性格をまず明らかにし、その秋田城による北方支配や北方世界との交流が、具体的にどのようなもので、どこまで及んだのか、またその一方で北方世界内部のみの、秋田城支配と関わらない交流がどのようなものであったかを検討した。それによれば、秋田城の北方支配は意外に限定的で、北の領域では北の論理に基づく主体的な流通が優勢であったことが明らかになった。一方秋田城の性格については、文献史料の解釈からは非国府説、出土文字資料の解釈からは国府説が有利であることを確認した。最終的結論は今後の課題としてなお検討を続けたい。

Using a historical approach, this study examines the transformation of graves from a material perspective, specifically the marketing strategy of gravestone shops. First, I reveal the relationship between the construction of graves for people who flowed into urban areas during the period of high economic growth and the commercialization of graves through advertising with its purpose of maintaining extended reproduction of these shops. Second, I demonstrate that, with the changes in the economic structure since the 1990s, gravestone shops have contributed to the social expansion of funeral and grave systems that do not require inheritance.

人は自分が帰属するための物語を求め続け、かつ、それを維持し続けるために大きな犠牲を払い続ける。戦いを題材とした漫画は、そのような物語を消費者に与える装置としての役割を果たしてきた。格闘漫画はそのような戦いを題材とした漫画の極致であると言える。格闘漫画は強さの追求の中で生まれた暗黙の法を男同士の絆の実践とみなすことによって、暗黙の法に基づく価値観の絶対性を主張する。格闘漫画は男同士の絆の体現者を最強と同一化することで、主人公を戦いの破滅性から回避させると同時に、暗黙の法と対立する価値観の持ち主を弱者として排除した。かくして漫画の中の戦いは、同じ価値観を持った男同士の濃密なコミュニケーションとなったのである。このような絆としての戦いは、他者との絆を渇望する現代人の欲求に応えるものであり、読者にアイデンティティを与える物語の役割を果たすものであると言える。しかし、その結果、戦いは戦うこと自体を自己目的化していき、同質な者だけで構成された小さなコミュニティがそのまま世界と同一視されることになるのである。

ロドプシンファミリーは多様なメンバー (オプシン) から構成され, 視覚やそれ以外の様々な光生理現象に関与する。筆者はこれまでに様々なオプシンの解析を通じて, 動物の光受容細胞の機能と進化に関する研究を行ってきた。本稿では筆者らの行った以下の研究について紹介する。(1) ヤモリの桿体に含まれる視物質が錐体タイプであることを明らかにし, ヤモリ桿体が錐体から進化したとする仮説を検証した。(2) ホタテガイの繊毛型視細胞において新しい光情報伝達系を発見し, 視細胞の光情報伝達経路は脊椎動物と節足動物の分岐以前にすでに多様化していたことを明らかにした。(3) ゼブラフィッシュの脳内において2種類の新規オプシン (非視覚型オプシン) を同定し, その一つ (エクソロドプシン) は松果体, もう一つ (VALオプシン) は脳深部と網膜の二次ニューロンに存在することを示した。また, エクソロドプシン遺伝子プロモータの機能解析を行い, 松果体特異的なシス配列の同定に初めて成功した。

本稿は女性の市町村議会への参入を説明するために,市町村の人口規模の役割に注目する。市町村の人口規模が小さい場合,当選に必要な票数が少ないので候補者は個人として議席を争う傾向にある。候補者中心の選挙では,男性に比べ政治的意欲や資源が乏しいことが知られている女性の立候補や当選は難しくなるだろう。結果として女性候補者や議員の割合が低くなると予測できる。一方で,市町村の人口規模が大きい場合,当選に必要な票数が多くなるため,男女とも政党の候補者として議席を争う可能性が高まる。女性は政党の組織的支援や政党ラベルの効果を享受できるため,候補者としての不利な立場を解消することができ,結果として立候補や当選の可能性が高まると考えられる。これらの議論から,市町村の人口規模の拡大に伴う当選必要票数の増加は,女性候補者や議員の比率を上昇させるという仮説を立てる。仮説検証には1990年後半から2010年にかけての平成の大合併を挟んだ市町村の人口規模の変化を利用する。

政治学者や社会学者の多くは,投票行動の集計結果(投票率,得票率)に現われる地域差を,投票性向の異なる社会階層の居住構成が,地域ごとに異なることに帰着させてきた(構成主義的アプローチ).ところが,地理学者が行なってきた諸外国の研究事例では,地域差のなかで,構成主義理論によっては説明できない部分がかなりあることがわかっている.この説明未了の部分の大半は,近隣効果と呼ばれる地域文脈的効果によるものと考えられる.近隣効果の発見は,過去30年の選挙地理学の最大の成果の1つである. 本稿では,京都市における1991年市議選の都市内地域における投票情報を分析し,次の3点を発見した.(1)有権者の階層構成の地域差は,投票率・得票率の地域差を説明できるほど大きくはない.(2)「地域別の投票率・得票率」は,地域ごとに変動し,その地域差パターンは構成主義モデルではほとんど説明できず,強い残差が残る(集計的近隣効果の存在).(3)「地域別かつ階層別の投票率・得票率」は,同じ階層について比較しても,地域ごとに変動し(非集計的近隣効果の存在),その地域差パターンは階層によらず,「地域別の投票率・得票率」の地域差パターンに類似する.この3つの現象は,普遍性をもち,たがいに密接に結びついていることがわかった.

Alcohol-related injuries in college students are a major public health problem worldwide. We clarified the association between excessive drinking and alcohol-related injuries in Japanese college students. This was a cross-sectional study with a self-administered questionnaire. From January to March 2013, we sampled all college students and graduate students aged 20 years or older during annual health examinations at three colleges in Mie Prefecture in Japan. The questionnaire assessed the frequency of alcohol drinking, amount of alcohol consumed per day, binge drinking during the past year, alcohol-related injuries during the past year, and demographic data. Logistic regression analysis was conducted on the association between excessive alcohol use and alcohol-related injuries. A total of 2,842 students underwent health examinations, of whom 2,177 (76.6%) completed the questionnaire. Subjects included 1,219 men (56.0%) and 958 women (44.0%). Eighty-eight men (7.2%) and 93 women (9.7%) were classified as excessive weekly drinkers, while 693 men (56.8%) and 458 women (47.8%) were determined to be binge drinkers. Eighty-one men (6.6%) and 26 women (2.7%) had experienced alcohol-related injuries during the past year. In the logistic regression analysis, binge drinkers (odds ratio 25.6 [8.05-81.4]) and excessive weekly drinkers (odds ratio 3.83 [2.41-6.09]) had a history of significantly more alcohol-related injuries, even after adjusting for age and sex. In conclusion, alcohol-related injuries in college students in Japan were strongly associated with excessive drinking. As a strategy for preventing such injuries in this population, an interventional study is required to identify effective methods for reducing excessive alcohol use.

Investigating the function of native biomolecules is an important but challenging task due to the highly complex nature of biological systems. To understand complex biological systems in terms of simple biomolecular interactions, organic chemists have developed many bioorthogonal reactions over the past few years. These bioorthogonal reactions have been applied for the efficient construction of functionalized biomolecules. In this mini review, the development and the applications of such bioorthogonal reactions are described.
