This study examines the role of international humanitarian organizations and the politics of relief operations during the Nigerian Civil War. It investigates the nexus between the politicization of humanitarian operations during the three-year conflict, and the death, hunger and starvation of millions of Biafrans. The study explores how the triangular politics among the Federal Military Government of Nigeria, the Biafran authorities, and the humanitarian organizations, in particular, the International Committee of the Red Cross impacted on the women, children and the elderly in Biafra. The author argues that the issue of sovereignty was only a cover to politicize the relief assistance going to Biafra and consequently abort the operations, thus, serving as a war strategy for both the Nigerian and Biafran authorities.

<p> 腹腔鏡下前立腺全摘除術(以下LRP)の最大の利点は開腹手術では困難であった骨盤奥の明瞭な視野が得られ,その術野を多くの人と共有できるようになったことであろう.そのために他施設の術者間で共通の「言葉」で議論し互いに切磋琢磨することが可能となり比較的短期間で安定した術式になったと思われる.一方ここ数年のda Vinci^®システムの急速な普及,特に2012年よりロボット支援前立腺全摘除術(以下RALP)が保険収載となってからの爆発的な普及によりLRPを施行される機会は激減している.しかしRALPの術式は基本的にLRPの術式をロボット支援下に行うことにより,より洗練され進化し技術的に昇華されたものとも言える.<br> 個人的な事であるが,1999年末に京都大学にて本邦第1例目のLRPが行われ,その場に同席させていただく機会を得た.当時の腹腔鏡手術の経験者達が見守る中,さまざまな障壁を乗り越えて完遂された寺地先生を初めとする京都大学関係者の方々の熱気は決して忘れることの出来ない重大イベントであった.この経験に励まされ,われわれも2000年4月からLRPを開始し術式に各種の改良を加え標準術式として確立する事ができた.本学会誌にて2011年にわれわれの報告も含みLRPの長期成績について特集が組まれたが,その後5年経過したこともあり真の長期成績と言えるまとめが必要な時期が来ており,この度再び特集が組まれたことは時宜にかなっていると思われる.<br> いずれの筆者も非常に多数の症例を経験されている施設での術者であり,さまざまな試行錯誤を重ねられて来たことが本文中に述べられている.その長期成績のご報告はLRPの一つの区切りとして相応しいものであり,今後のRALPの発展のためにも非常に大きな役割を担うマイルストーンになるものと思われる.<br> 本特集が前立腺全摘除術という泌尿器科医にとり今後も重要かつチャレンジングな手術をさらに発展させる糧となれば幸いである.</p>

第二次世界大戦終結70周年の年にウクライナ問題の先鋭化は欧州における戦後処理(ヤルタ体制)、東西冷戦、ベルリンの壁撤去、ソ連邦の崩壊、EU/NATOの拡大と続く個々の出来事に内包された諸問題に因って引き起こされたものである。ウクライナ・ポロシェンコ政権を支持する米国、EUと対立するプーチン政権は欧米のみならずオーストラリア、日本からも経済制裁を受け、日増しにロシアが世界経済から孤立しているにも関わらず、プーチン大統領の支持率は80%を超えている。元々、ソ連時代からロシアは政経一体型の経済運営であるが、クリミア・ウクライナ問題に絡む一連の高い代償を払いながら強引に自らの政策を進めようとするのは、プーチン大統領の経済政策のルーツがオリガルヒ(新興財閥)との戦いであり、この戦いを通じて今日「国家資本主義」と言われる経済運営が形成されたのである。今後のロシアの資源・エネルギーを中心とする対東アジア経済政策をみる上で経済原則に依らない政治的、戦略的な意図を見ておかなければならない。

Metabolism is an important cellular process necessary not only for producing energy and building blocks for cells, but also for regulating various cell functions, including intracellular signaling, epigenomic effects, and transcription. The regulatory roles of metabolism have been extensively studied in somatic cells, including stem cells and cancer cells, but data regarding germ cells are limited. Because germ cells produce individuals of subsequent generations, understanding the role of metabolism and its regulatory functions in germ cells is important. Although limited information concerning the specific role of metabolism in germ cells is available, recent advances in related research have revealed specific metabolic states of undifferentiated germ cells in embryos as well as in germ cells undergoing oogenesis and spermatogenesis. Studies have also elucidated the functions of some metabolic pathways associated with germ cell development and the non-genomic heritable machinery of germ cells. In this review, we summarized all the available knowledge on the characteristic metabolic pathways in germ cells, focusing on their regulatory functions, while discussing the issues that need to be addressed to enhance the understanding of germ cell metabolism.

子ども達にとって主要な学校という生活の場から,思春期にある中学生の学校での心身の訴えと状態を知ることで,病気を抱えながら中学校生活をおくる子どもに対するサポートの課題について検討するために,新潟県下の中学校(1校)教諭4名に半構造化面接法による聞き取り調査を行った.教諭の語りから,生徒の疾患についての情報源,病気を抱え中学校生活をおくる生徒の対応で困ったこと,そして医療者,特に看護師に対しての要望について内容を抽出し,分析した.結果,小中学校間・学校内・教諭と患児または親の情報の共有が図られていた.しかし,医療機関とのかかわりはほとんどなかった.教諭の「困ったこと・感じたこと」について,11カテゴリーが抽出され,〈良い子・頑張り屋の生徒に対しては要求をかなえたい,何とか助けたい〉,〈病気だからといって特別扱いはできない〉,〈思春期の病児の劣等感・羞恥心に対する困難さ〉などの教諭・病児の疾患から生じる良価的な思いがあった.「看護師に対しての要望」にていては語られず,「医療機関との連携」について語られ,〈救急時の応急処置・保護者との連絡方法〉,〈資料や直接的なケース別対応策の相談受付〉,〈学校生活は,生徒の本人の管理下にある〉,〈親との話し合いだけでは対応が困難〉,(医療機関と学校が直接つながることによるプライバシー問題),〈医療者側の学校理解の不十分さ〉の6カテゴリーが抽出された.

In order to find out how an eco-tour in a primeval forest affects the stress levels, perceived physical condition and feelings of the participants, the authors implemented an experimental tour in Suigenchinomori, a primeval forest in Kawakami Village in Nara Prefecture. Results indicated changes in the participants' stress levels and subjective physical condition through the course of the tour. The stress levels of the participants increased on average while their perceived physical condition and feelings became better during the tour as a whole. This means that the average perceived physical condition and feeling at the second and the third measuring points were better than at the first measuring point at the beginning of the tour. Examining the changes between the three measuring points in detail, for individuals, the following facts were found. (1) Between the first and second points, 12 participants out of 14 felt better. And one stayed at the highest point on the measuring scale. One participant felt worse. Physical condition also became better in 12 participants, worse in one, and stayed at the highest point of the scale in another. (2) Between the second and the third points, feelings became worse in 11 participants and in the other three stayed at the same level. Physical condition became better in half of the participants and stayed at the same level in the other half.

なぜバックエンド問題の社会的議論が難しいのかという問題意識から,欠如モデル(Deficit model)型リスクコミュニケーションの問題点に着目し,社会的議論形成に向け社会的受容性要因を検討した。市 民が立場の異なる専門家3 名(地層処分に推進・慎重・中立)から一方向コミュニケーションの情報を受け,市民会議前・後の変化を質問票で測定し,選好判断の根拠を社会的受容性4 要因(技術・制度・市場・地域)・信頼・世代間公平性・原子力政策で評価した。その結果, 欠如モデル型リスクコミュニケーションは選好の変容に限定的で, 市民の政策選好判断は技術的要因だけではなく, 制度的要因や世代間公平性という社会的側面の情報が大切なことが示された。

朝鮮時代の船舶、つまり「韓船」は、伝統的かつ独特の形態を有し、航海の目的に合わせて緻密に設計され、建造された。朝鮮時代の船舶については、朝鮮側の文献史料や日本の絵図、西洋人の記録などによって知ることができる。水中発掘調査も進められているが、いまだ朝鮮時代の船舶は見つかっていない。 朝鮮時代における輸送活動の中心は、川や海を行き来して税穀を運搬する漕運船であった。後期には商業の発達にともなって民間の船舶活動がさかんになり、朝廷では海税の管理のため、船舶の保有状況の把握、船舶区分などを進め、管理体系を整えていった。 一方朝鮮時代には、周辺国の海禁政策や、海難事故・密貿易の防止を理由に、朝鮮通信使以外の国外航行が禁じられていた。そのため外洋への航海技術はさほど発達しなかったものと思われる。
