<p>Traumatic toe amputation has been rarely reported because of the limited number of cases, difficulty of the operative procedure and fewer problems with the absence of toes than fingers. We report toe amputation in 2 children. Case 1: A 15-year-old girl with crush type, Ishikawa classification subzoneⅡ, incomplete amputation of the first toe underwent revascularization with a vein graft. Skin necrosis was observed at the crush zone, and skin grafting was required after debridement and artificial dermis transplant. Case 2: A 7-year-old girl with crush type, Ishikawa classification subzoneⅡ, incomplete amputation of the fifth toe underwent revascularization. Skin necrosis was observed at the tip of the toe and the distal phalanx was resorbed partially, but the toe survived.</p>

<p>Two specimens (227.8–251.7 mm standard length) of the rare grouper <i>Cephalopholis polleni</i> (Bleeker, 1868) were collected off Okinawa-jima and Ishigaki-jima islands, Ryukyu Islands, the species having previously been known from scattered insular localities in the Indo-Pacific Ocean, including the Ryukyu Islands between the Amami and Yaeyama Islands. Although a single specimen of <i>C. polleni</i> had been previously obtained from a fish market in Naha, Okinawa-jima Island, its capture locality was unknown and the specimen is now apparently lost. All other Japanese records of the species were based solely on photographs. Accordingly, the present specimens of <i>C. polleni</i>, described here in detail, from Okinawa-jima and Ishigaki-jima islands represent important specimen-based records of the species from Japan, being the first with precise locality data. A review of previous distribution records of <i>C. polleni</i> from Japanese waters is also provided.</p>

The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of typical Japanese eating positions on mandibular movement and EMG activities in head and neck muscles during chewing.10 males chewed gums of 3 different hardness (soft, medium and hard) in cross-legged sitting (CL), chair sitting (CS) and standing (S) positions. Mandibular movement and surface EMG signals were recorded. In each position during chewing, head movement (HM) and forward inclination of the head and body (FIH, FIB) were measured by photography.The results were as follows:1. Maximal vertical displacement was the largest in CL position in chewing of hard gum.Maximal opening velocity was the largest in S position in chewing of medium gum. Opening phase time, closing phase time and cycle time were the longest in CL position in chewing of medium and hard gum.2. Burst duration was the longest in CL position in chewing of all gums. Muscle activities at anterior temporal, posterior temporal, masseter and nuchal region of the trapezius muscles were most increased in CL position in chewing of medium and hard gum.3. HM was the largest in S position while FIH and FIB were the largest in CL position in chewing of all gums.

背景 : 手指衛生は医療関連感染防止の最も重要な対策である. 看護師を対象に手指の汚染状況を可視化する手指衛生教育を実践し検討した. 方法 : 看護師29名にATP拭き取り検査及び蛍光塗料とブラックライトを併用した教育を実践し調査した. 結果 : 手指衛生が重要であるとの認識は, 教育後に有意に高くなった. また, 研修目標の到達度では, 約8割の看護師が「自分自身の手洗い方法についての振り返り」, 「手袋を外した後の手指衛生の必要性の理解」, 「自分自身の洗い残し部位の確認」ができたとしていた. 考察 : 本手指衛生教育は, 看護師の手指衛生に対する重要性の認識を高めることが示唆された.

The purpose of this article is illuminating the theoretical and pedagogical perspectives on grammar instruction in the field of second language acquisition (SLA) research and educational settings. In many educational contexts, although communicative activities have been strenuously implemented into language lessons, grammar instruction has not been appropriately integrated in the lessons. In this article, theoretical perspectives on grammar instruction will be explained and a systematic framework of grammar instruction, “form-focused instruction (FFI)”, will be demonstrated. Then an instructed model integrating FFI and communicative contexts proposed by Lyster (2007, 2017) will be illustrated. Finally, empirical findings regarding FFI will be reviewed.
