Soy isoflavone has benefits for metabolic syndrome but the mechanism is not completely understood. This study was designed to determine the effects of soy isoflavone on hepatic fat accumulation in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) rats induced by high fat diet (HFD). Sprague-Dawley rats were administrated with a normal fat diet (control), HFD (NAFLD model), HFD with 10 or 20 mg/kg soy isoflavone daily for 12 weeks. Hepatic and serum lipid contents, liver histopathological examination, serum alanine transaminase (ALT), protein and mRNA expression of sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREBP)-1c, fatty acid synthase (FAS), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) α were assayed respectively. Our study found that soy isoflavone reduced HFD-induced lipid accumulation in liver, serum ALT and improved liver lobule structure. In addition, the expression of SREBP-1c and FAS was lower, whereas protein level of PPARα was higher in two soy isoflavone groups than that of the HFD group. Collectively, these results demonstrate that soy isoflavone is capable of alleviating hepatic steatosis and delaying the progression of NAFLD via inhibiting lipogenesis and promoting fatty acid oxidation in liver.

1976年,R・ドーキンスによる「利己的な遺伝子」の発表以来,文化遺伝子,ミームの概念は,S・ブラックモア,R・ブロディ,佐倉統などにより掘り下げて論じられてきた.ここではミームの発生過程を伝統的ダーウィニズムの模倣-変異-淘汰による偶然の産物とするにとどめず,I・プリゴジン,S・カウフマンの自己組織化の論理をミームにも適用し,マルチエージェントが自己触媒となり,散逸構造を形成するプロセスと仮定して考察する.環境に対する全体最適の価値観を自己触媒のモメンタムと捉えることで,21世紀型のサステイナブルな創発型組織モデルを形成し得るミームマネージメントの可能性を考察する.

Political scientists have usually considered E. H. Carr as a pioneer of the academic field of International Relations (IR). Given this understanding is tenable, in which historical context did he establish a new discipline?<br>In the early twentieth century, Max Weber discerned in the emergence of bureaucratic institutions an idiosyncratic phase of modern instrumental rationalism. The currently acknowledged form of academic divisions was at best contestable when Carr wrote his monumental <i>The Twenty Years' Crisis</i> (1939). Indeed, Carr was a multifaceted scholar: sometimes, he was an advocate of political realism; other times, he was the author of the controversial historical studies on Soviet Russia; yet other times, he was a biographer of nineteenth century thinkers. It is a grave mistake to recognize Carr exclusively either as historian, political scientist, or biographer.<br>The chief objective of the present article is to situate Carr in the context of the emergence of professional intellectuals, and thus clarify the meaning of the popular understanding that he was one of the pioneering figures of IR. This author focuses on his early works: <i>Dostoevsky</i> (1931), <i>The Romantic Exiles</i> (1933), <i>Karl Marx</i> (1934) and <i>Michael Bakunin</i> (1937). Compared with his texts in the two decades around the middle of the twentieth century, these works have not occasioned much scholarly interest among IR researchers. One of the main reasons of this ignorance is probably their apparent irrelevance to the study of international relations. As I see it, however, Carr's inquiry into international relations was a continuation of his project he advanced in his biographical works. Through his exposure to the untraditional thoughts of nineteenth-century Russian (and Russia-related) intellectuals, Carr obtained a historical view that the modern western world was in radical transformation. On the other hand, Carr discerned various European elements within the apparently unfamiliar Russian thoughts. Carr's project was ultimately a remedial self-critique of Europe. Carr's search for alternative cultural value ended up reattaching him to his familiar liberal world.<br>By suggesting these points, the present article aims to add another contribution to the recent reinterpretations of Carr. It also directs our attentions to the issue of contexts in general for further advancing our knowledge about the history of international studies as well as Carr's relevance to the contemporary world.

Worldwide, HREEs are not abundant, but LREEs are. HREEs are limited to certain weathered crust deposits in China where the original granites are rich in HREEs and surface weathering is intense. Because of environmental limitations on mining, it is necessary to discover the primary sources of REEs in alkaline igneous rock provinces. Indium can be recycled easily, and primary sources can be found in Sn-Zn-sulfides deposits of both volcanic and subvolcanic settings. Tungsten and bismuth are also limited mineral resources, but can be found in carbonate rocks with fractionated ilmenite-series granite intrusions. Molybdenum can be supplied sufficiently from porphyry-type deposits.

Recently, human serum albumin (HSA) has emerged as a versatile carrier for therapeutic agents against diabetes, cancer, and infectious diseases. Market-approved products include fatty acid derivatives of human insulin for diabetes and the paclitaxel-HSA nanoparticle for various cancers such as metastatic breast cancer and advanced pancreatic cancer. In this review, we focus on the next-generation approach including HSA-binding bioactive gas such as nitric oxide (NO) for treating ischemic/reperfusion injury, cancer, and bacterial infection. To date, pharmacologically active compounds that release NO within the body, such as organic nitrates, have been used as therapeutic agents, but their efficacy is significantly limited by unwanted side effects. Therefore, novel NO donors with better pharmacological and pharmacokinetic properties are highly desirable. The S-nitrosothiol fraction in plasma is largely composed of endogenous S-nitrosated HSA (SNO-HSA), which is why we are investigating whether this albumin form can be therapeutically useful. Recently, we have developed SNO-HSA analogues such as SNO-HSA with many conjugated SNO groups (poly-SNO-HSA) prepared using chemical modification. Unexpectedly, we found striking inverse effects between poly-SNO-HSA and SNO-HSA. Despite the fact that SNO-HSA inhibits apoptosis, poly-SNO-HSA possesses very strong pro-apoptotic effects against tumor cells. Furthermore, poly-SNO-HSA can reduce or even completely eliminate the multidrug resistance often developed by cancer cells. In this review, we put forward the possibility that poly-SNO-HSA can be used as a safe, effective multifunctional antitumor agent.

液晶ディスプレイの画質向上策の一つとして,3原色RGB(赤緑青)に新たな色Xを追加するRGBXパネルが注目されている.ここでXをW(白)とするRGBWパネルは透過率の大幅な向上が期待できる.一方,Wのサブピクセルを追加することによる解像度低下,あるいは色再現性低下などの画質劣化が懸念される.今回,RGBWパネルを対象にして上記課題の解決を目的とする信号処理方式の開発を行った.提案方式は,パタンマッチング法を利用した画素配置変換と,環境の明るさに基づく色変換方式を組み合わせている.これらの信号処理方式を組み込んだRGBWパネル表示装置の試作を行い,従来のRGB3色パネルに比べて1.5倍以上の輝度向上を確認した.
