博物館・美術館は,美術工芸品をはじめ歴史資料などきわめて広い分野にわたり貴重な文化財を保存修復展示している。われわれは,これらのコレクションがさまざまなメディアで広く紹介されることによって,はじめて博物館・美術館へ出かけて本物を観る楽しみへと誘われる。このように所蔵作品の情報公開は,博物館・美術館にとって極めて基本的な活動の一つと位置付けられるようになってきた。近年のデジタルアーカイブ化とインターネットのブロードバンド化の動向により,博物館・美術館の所蔵作品デジタル画像を従来の限られた専門分野のみに提供するのではなく,広く商業的なさまざまな用途へとその利用範囲を広げる先行的な事例が始まってきている。この画像ライセンス事業の事例を報告するとともに権利処理について概観する。

A 79-year-old man on hemodialysis was hospitalized for further investigation. Early gastric cancer was diagnosed by gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was performed. Fever and abdominal pain thereafter developed, and a severe inflammatory response was observed on a blood test. Contrast computed tomography (CT) showed ulcer-like projections and soft tissue surrounding the aorta, from the celiac to left renal artery. An infected aneurysm was diagnosed. Although infected aneurysms developing after laparoscopic cholecystectomy or biopsy of contiguous esophageal duplication cyst have been reported, those developing after ESD have not. When fever and abdominal pain develop after ESD, an infected aneurysm should be considered and contrast CT performed.

Objective We herein conducted a retrospective study to evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of sitagliptin treatment in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods We analyzed the changes in glycemic control in 112 Japanese type 2 diabetes patients over 65 years of age treated with 50 mg/day sitagliptin. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels, liver and kidney functions, and usage of hypoglycemic agents were recorded for 24 months. Results HbA1c levels were significantly decreased, and the significance of HbA1c reduction was maintained during the observation period [from 7.7±1.1% to 7.2±0.7% (p Conclusion Sitagliptin treatment continually decreases the HbA1c level for 24 months and is useful to reduce the dose of sulfonylurea in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes.

Ruxolitinib is a useful treatment option for myelofibrosis since it effectively resolves splenomegaly and constitutional symptoms. After the widespread use of ruxolitinib outside of clinical trials, a series of case reports indicated a potential risk of ruxolitinib-associated opportunistic infections, including the reactivation of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). We herein report the case of a polycythemia vera patient who showed an elevation of HBV-DNA viral DNA with an elevation of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) after the initiation of ruxolitinib. Anti-viral therapy with entecavir was immediately started and the HBV viral load thereafter decreased with an improvement of the liver function. Physicians should thus be aware of the potential risk of ruxolitinib-associated HBV reactivation.

We report the findings of a 46-year-old man, who presented with fever and renal dysfunction while undergoing treatment for Crohn's disease with infliximab (IFX). Remittent fever and renal dysfunction with urinary casts developed and lasted for 3 weeks without deterioration of Crohn's disease. Renal biopsy revealed acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (ATIN). After the discontinuation of IFX, his fever and renal abnormalities resolved. We herein report the first known case of ATIN associated with IFX.

On crossed immunoelectrophoresis, human serum C3 (the third component of complement) converted by antitumor polysaccharides (ATSO [antitumor polysaccharide oral], AB-P [Agaricaus blazei/polysaccharide], GU-P [Grifora umbellata polysaccharide], PS-K [polysaccharide Kureha] and zymosan) moved faster than native C3, appearing as the 3rd peak. The ratio of height of the 3rd peak to the α2-macroglobulin (α2-M) peak was linearly proportional to the dose of ATSO. At the dose of 500 μg/ml antitumor polysaccharides, the ratios were higher than 0.76, and the ratios for the serum treated with polysaccharide of no antitumor activity (dextran and gum arabic) were less than about 0.52. This ratio readily determined in vivo can be used as a measure for the antitumor activity of polysaccharides.

釈尊もしくは初期の仏教は,インド社会を現代にいたるまで特徴づけている階級差別を批判し,バラモン・クシャトリヤ・ヴァイシャ・シュードラという四姓が平等であることを主張したと伝えられている.その平等論は多くの研究者によって紹介され,そして仏教思想の優れた点として人々に賞賛されてきた.しかし,J. W. de Jong氏("Buddhism and the Equality of the Four Castes," 1988)やDonald S. Lopez Jr.氏(Buddhism & Science, 2008)などの幾人かの研究者によって,八世紀前半に活躍したと考えられている中観派の学匠アヴァローキタヴラタの著書Prajnapradapa-takaの中に,釈尊が説いた四姓の平等に反するような記述がみられることが指摘されている.実際そのテキストにおいて異教徒の典籍であるManusmrtiの一節が引用され,その内容はシュードラに対する差別であることが確認できる.これまでの研究者はみな一様に,このようなManusmrtiの一節をアヴァローキタヴラタが自説の教証として肯定的に引用し,そして四姓の差別を容認していると考えているのである.しかし,当該箇所をよく吟味すると,かれはむしろ伝統にのっとり四姓の差別を批判しているように読みとることができるのである.テキストを読み解く際の鍵となるのは「dbri bkol」というあまり用例の見られないチベットのことばである.

I, 4,1-5。アートマンによる世界創造が説かれている。アートマンは人間の形をしていたのであり, この人間としてのアートマンは自己をアートマン(夫)とその妻に分割し, 配偶となって人類を始め蟻に至るまで一対をなすものを創造した。世界創造が男女のセックスによってなされるという着想は極めて興味深いものがある。創造(srsti)に関して特記すべきことの一つは, 創造者と被造物の間にまったく区別のないことである。I, 4,6。アートマンは人間(=死すべき存在)であるにもかかわらず, 自己のなかから不死なるもの, すなわち, アグニ(火)およびソーマ(湿気)を始めとして神々を創造した。この創造はセックスによるそれと区別して「超創造」(atisrsti)と呼ばれる。I, 4,7-10。ここでは, アートマンが創造であるというよりも, むしろ万物に内在する全体的なものであることが説かれている。そして, それと並んでブラフマンが「この一切」(idam sarvam)であることも述べられている。すべての個別的なものは「名称と形態」であり, アートマンは全体的なものである。ブラフマンもまたアートマンと同じくsarvaである。I, 4,11-15。これらの箇所に関しては, ブラフマンによる世界創造がテーマである。ブラフマン(=バラモン階級)を始めとして, クシャトラ(=クシャトリヤ), ヴィシュ(=ヴァイシュヤ), およびシュードラの神的ならびに人間的な階級の創造が説かれている。そして, 王権をチェックするものとして, ダルマ(法)の重要性が強調される。I, 4,16-17。ここでは, ふたたびアートマンが主題になる。五大祭, すなわち, 神々, 聖仙, 祖先, 人間, および動物に対する奉仕によって, アートマンはすべての存在の生活領域になる。そして, このアートマンは心(manas)として, 自己の配偶者であることば(vac)の助けを借りて創造する。アートマンは心, その妻はことば, その子孫は息, その財産は眼と耳, その行為は身体である。しかし, アートマンは形而上学的な原理ではなく, 心, ことば, 息, 耳, 眼, および身体からなる。アートマンとは, 要するに, 広い意味での「行為」にほかならない。この行為と別にアートマンが存在するわけではない-atmaivasya karma(それの行為がアートマンである)!

綿,絹,ポリエステル縫糸でぐし縫,くけ,まつり縫をし,ドライクリーニングを50回繰り返した引張特性を検討した結果は次の通りである。絹縫糸使用では切断荷重,伸度において低下が顕著に現われ,前報と同傾向がみられた。綿縫糸では切断荷重が低下し,切断伸度の低下はほとんど認められなかった。ポリエステル縫糸は切断荷重,伸度共わずかの低下が認められた。前報のランドリーにおいては,くけ縫の低下が少なかったが,ドライクリーニングにおいては縫い方による差は認められなかった。ドライクリーニングはランドリーよりもおだやかな洗い方であるため,縫製した縫糸の低下も少なく現われた。終わりに,本研究を行うにあたり,ドライクリーニングにご協力いただいたポニー化学ドライセンター部長田村芳男氏に感謝申し上げます。

Antioxidants are expected to improve cardiovascular disease (CVD) by eliminating oxidative stress, but clinical trials have not shown promising results in chronic CVD. Animal studies have revealed that reactive oxygen species (ROS) exacerbate acute CVDs in which high levels of ROS are observed. However, ROS are also necessary for angiogenesis after ischemia, because ROS not only damage cells but also stimulate the cell signaling required for angiogenesis. ROS affect signaling by protein modifications, especially of cysteine amino acid thiols. Although there are several cysteine modifications, S-glutathionylation (GSH adducts; -SSG), a reversible cysteine modification by glutathione (GSH), plays an important role in angiogenic signal transduction by ROS. Glutaredoxin-1 (Glrx) is an enzyme that specifically removes GSH adducts in vivo. Overexpression of Glrx inhibits, whereas deletion of Glrx improves revascularization after mouse hindlimb ischemia. These studies indicate that increased levels of GSH adducts in ischemic muscle are beneficial in promoting angiogenesis. The underlying mechanism can be explained by multiple targets of S-gluathionylation, which mediate the angiogenic effects in ischemia. Increments in the master angiogenic transcriptional factor, HIF-1α, reduction of the anti-angiogenic factor sFlt1, activation of the endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+pump, SERCA, and inhibition of phosphatases may occur as a consequence of enhanced S-glutathionylation in ischemic tissue. In summary, inducing S-glutathionylation by inhibiting Glrx may be a therapeutic strategy to improve ischemic angiogenesis in CVD.

本報告は,SGML/XMLに関する最大のコンファレンス主催者であるGCAによるXML Eu?rope'99の概要を紹介し,併せてXMLをはじめとするデジタルドキュメントの現代史的な役割の考察を試みるものである。XML Europe'99は,スペインのグラナダで開催されたが,昨年秋にシカゴで開催されたXML'98がビジネス応用指向であったのに対し,地道な研究的,技術的な発表が多かった。どちらかと言うと地味な内容の発表が多かったのであるが,RDBとの相互運用や既存の各種業界のSGMLシステムとの相互運用など,実用期を迎えたXMLの今後の動向を把握するためには有効な情報が多かった。このXMLを用いる知識管理(ナレッジマネージメント)の動向に注目が集まっているが,この動向について,かつてのAIブームの反省を踏まえた考察を試みる。最後に,XMLを含むデジタルドキュメントの日本を中心とした現代史的な課題を述べる。This paper describes XML Europe'99 sponsored by GCA which is the biggest organization to support SGML/XML conferences, and tries to consider the role of digital documents which include XML with a historical view to the current situation. Compared with XML'98 at Chicago, which had been strongly characterized to business applications, the presentations at XML Europe'99 which was held at Granada, Spain, were seemed to steadily coordinated to academic and technological area. Though many of those presentations were not so strongly impressive, they were very informative to know the trend of the practical application fields of XML as the interoperability with RDB and/or existing SGML document systems in various industries. Many people seem strongly interested in the keyword of knowledge management with XML, according to the newspapers, magazine, books, and so on now. An evaluation to the trend is tried out based on the reflection feedback from the previous activities in artificial intelligence fields. Finally, issues to the current digital documents with XML especially in Japan is described.
