Short-term variation in the ammonium excretion rate by Calanus sinicus during the post-capture period was evaluated in 1-h incubations. Incubation water volume (13 mL vs. 100 mL) did not significantly affect the excretion rate, and the overall mean excretion rate of C. sinicus was similar to reported values from congeneric species. However, the 24-h variations in the excretion rate denoted that acclimation stress decreased the excretion rates 1–2 h after introduction to a no-food condition. The effect of presence/absence of food was not significant up to 24 h after capture.

歌川広重の「東都名所」と題される揃い物は, 佳作が多い名品として知られている.その中でも「吉原仲之町夜桜」は傑作として評価が高い。美術作品としての総合的な評価とは別に, この作品に描かれた空間には, 同シリーズの他の作品とは異質な印象が強く感じられる.それは, 同時代の絵画の空間表現とは異なる, より近代の視覚, あるいは近代の絵画に近い, 現実の視覚体験に近い空間感である.その印象はどこから生まれているのかを考察することが, 本論の主題である。そのため, 透視図としての画面の分析, 投影法の観点からの他の作品との比較, 画面の色彩等についての考察を行った.その結果, 本作品は広重の作品の中では数少ない2点透視図の形式を持ち, 消失点の設定に独特のものがあることがわかった.また画面の構図や色彩の使い方の分析を行い, 表現された空間に, 近代から現代の写真や絵画に通じる現実感があることの背景を考察した.

Recent developments in methods of comparative analysis were reviewed. The difference in correlation between traits of extant (tip) species and that between changes in traits along branches of a phylogenetic tree was critical. Techniques of comparative methods for considering the effects of phylogeny were reviewed. They included comparison of higher taxon means, comparison within higher taxa, division of variation using a matrix of phylogenetic similarity, independent comparison method and cladistic methods. The nature of statistical inference in comparative methods, and the connection between comparative ecology and phylogenetics were discussed.

電子書籍の普及が進んでおり,端末では国語辞典などで用語の意味を表示する機能が提供されている.電子教科書において,用語の意味にとどまらず,学習内容に関連する Web 上の情報源にアクセスしてより深い学習を行うことが有効と考えられる.しかし,Web 検索の結果をすべて表示すると,どの検索結果が正しいのかを判定することが,学習を始めようとする学習者には困難であると予想される.そこで電子教科書に適した Web 検索手法を検討し試作を行った.検索したい語が含まれる電子教科書の段落と,検索結果のスニペットを分野判定する.それぞれの分野が合致するページのみを提供することで,学習中の文脈に対応した Web 検索が可能になる.さらに分野判定の精度を向上させるための手法を検討した.The worldwide popularity of digital books continues to increase. One useful function is that they display word meanings with an embedded dictionary function. Such web-searching functions are becoming very effective and more popular for learners. However, students often have difficulty selecting correct meaning from multiple meanings on the screen. This may result in misunderstandings and confusions. Therefore, our presentation enables context-based web-searching in digital textbooks by proposing a new classification function that determines a word's fields from the textbook in which it appears and displays search results limited to specific fields.

We carried out an optimization of analytical parameters for U–Pb zircon dating by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) using a NIST SRM 610 glass. As a result, we obtained the following optimum analytical parameters: laser energy: 11.7 J/cm2, repetition rate: 10 Hz, pre-ablation time: 8 sec, integration time: 10 sec and crater diameter: 25 μm. The average 206Pb/238U ratio of the NIST SRM 610 glass normalized by a 91500 zircon standard under the conditions mentioned above was 0.2236±0.0044 (1σ, N : 87). The median value of this result matches with that of the literature value within range of the analytical precision. Furthermore, the 206Pb/238U weighted mean ages of the Plešovice, OD-3 and Fish Canyon Tuff zircons, having the proposed 206Pb/238U ages of 335.48±0.95 Ma (95% conf., N : 38, MSWD : 1.1), 33.25±0.38 Ma (95% conf., N : 23, MSWD : 1.5), 28.56±0.49 Ma (95% conf., N : 34, MSWD : 5.1), respectively, were measured, normalized by the NIST SRM 610 glass standard. The results were consistent within 1% error range of the recommended values. These results suggest that the matrix effect can be reduced to less than analytical precision on materials with different physical properties under well-optimized analytical conditions.

本連載では非線形波動,とくにソリトンについて基本的な事柄を解説する.ソリトンは流体力学にも現れるが,物性,宇宙,生物など様々な分野でも現れる.いまやいろいろな分野で基礎的知識あるいは常識となっているから若い人がソリトンを学んでおくのは悪くないであろう.また,ソリトンは1965年に発見され,1970年代前半に急激に理論が発展したが,この新しい学問分野の発展の歴史は大変興味深い.それを垣間見るのも若い人たちにはよい教訓になるかもしれない.さらに,ソリトンは数学の様々な分野に関係しているから,あまり自分には関係ないと思っていた数学の分野に関心を持つ契機になるかもしれない.そのようなことを期待してこの連載をはじめたい.ソリトン理論(数学では可積分系と呼ばれたりする)は広大で多岐にわたるので,全体像を示すのは難しいし,私にできることでもない.そこで,この連載では基本的な事柄にかぎる.最近,我が国では離散系の研究が盛んであるが,離散系は戸田格子などに限定する.モデルはなるべく流体からとることにするが,そうでない場合もある.例えば,戸田格子は流体とは関係ないが重要なので取り上げる.この第1章は主としてソリトンの発見と初期の発展に関係している.第2章以降の予定としては次のようなことを考えている.第2章 双曲型方程式と特性曲線,線形分散波 第3章 KdV方程式 第4章 非線形シュレディンガー方程式 第5章 逆散乱法 第6章 広田の方法 第7章 佐藤理論 第8章 KP方程式の解について-空間2次元の例

紙製ヨーグルト・カップは本体には紙、蓋にはアルミニウムが主に使用されている。本研究では、こうした紙製ヨーグルト・カップのLCAをLIME2を使用して実施した(ヨーグルトの充填及び封緘プロセスは除く)。アルミの環境負荷は相対的に大きく、木材が環境(一次生産及び生物多様性)に与える影響がゼロであるとした場合、容器1個が環境に与える影響(統合化)の50%強が蓋に由来し、その殆どが素材製造に由来している。

We investigated the relationship between aesthetics and leg shape using Japanese female undergraduates from the viewpoint of the measurement of leg dimension using leg images, the statistical classification of leg shape, and the visual impression survey of subject's legs. Leg shape was classified into an aesthetic leg group and an ordinary leg group, and both were further classified into three sub-groups. Based on the analysis of these groups, the concept of aesthetic leg was defined, and an empirical f ormula for estimating leg aesthetics objectively and numerically was derived.
