地域住民を対象としたライフスタイルと自覚症状の関連を包括的に検討した先行研究はいくつか報告されているが,職域を対象としたものはあまり多くない.某食品会社の20-69歳の従業員4540名を対象としライフスタイルと自覚症状との関連についてとくに性差に着目し,男女いずれかでその該当割合が10%以上の自覚症状:「とくに疲れやすい」,「手足がむくむ」,「肩・首がこる」,「腰が痛む」,「視力が低下した」,「立ちくらみ」,「下痢しやすい」,「便秘しやすい」について検討した.男女別に各自覚症状の有無を目的変数とし,年齢・職種をモデルに入れ調整し,各ライフスタイル非良好者と比較したライフスタイル良好者のオッズ比(OR)と95%信頼区間(95%CI)を算出した.ライフスタイルに関する項目は,運動,睡眠,労働時間,朝食,栄養バランス,喫煙,飲酒の7項目である.男女とも喫煙および飲酒習慣について自覚症状の項目との関連が認められ,加えて女性では睡眠と筋骨格系症状との関連が示唆された.

あり得ないJCO事故で20世紀が終わり21世紀の幕が明けたが,牛乳集団中毒事件,自動車のリコール隠し,牛肉偽装事件,回転ドア死亡事故などに始まりアスベスト問題,相次ぐ鉄道事故や耐震偽装事件,原子力発電所死亡事故から最近はエレベーター,ガス瞬間湯沸かし器,シュレッダー事故など事件・事故が続発している.また新興IT会社や伝統のある大企業の粉飾決算や公共事業をめぐる談合問題など企業不祥事も相次いでいる.一方で学術研究分野でも捏造や資金の不正使用などが国内外で大きな問題となっている.当事者である技術者や企業・組織の取り組む問題として技術者倫理,企業倫理とともに企業・組織の社会的責任が大きな関心を集めているが,これらを読み解く鍵に社会の激変がある.コーポレートガバナンス,コンプライアンス,アカウンタビリティー,リスクマネジメント,ステークホルダー,CSR,SR,SRIなどカタカナ・横文字のオンパレードであるが問題の国際性がうかがわれる.以下では,安全とは何かから表題の技術者倫理,企業倫理と社会的責任について,非寛容さを増している社会の変化を踏まえて展望してみる.

This paper aims to examine ethical implications of the cognitive enhancement based on neuroscience and neuro-technology: more specifically, its influences on the "self". In order to do this, I begin with presenting the relevant conception of the self, and then examine how the cognitive enhancement could influence on the self. The opponents of the cognitive enhancement hold that it is self-destructive to accept cognitive enhancement since it will destroy our ordinary practices based on "folk psychology". The proponents, however, may prefer new, neuroscientific practices, which do not need the concept of the self. Yet, the opponents still have ways out, resorting to our system of values. I will end this paper by pointing out some tasks which we must solve.

A 5-year-old female miniature dachshund presenting with persistent vomiting and diarrhea had two concurrent rare pathological conditions: systemic candidiasis and mesenteric mast cell tumor with multiorgan metastases. Neoplastic mast cells formed mass in the mesentery of the cecal-colonic region and were also found in the liver, spleen, kidneys, lungs, adrenal grands, ovaries, bone marrow and other tissues. The cells had intracytoplasmic granules with metachromasia and were immunohistochemically positive for c-kit and histamine. Granulomatous lesions with fungal organisms were present in the heart, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, subserosal and surrounding adipose tissue of the duodenum, thyroid glands and mesenteric mass, and phagocytosed organisms were detected in the liver and bone marrow. Bacteriologically and immunohistochemically, the fungi were consistent with Candida albicans.

家鼠は野鼠と異なる特有の採餌行動を示し, この行動がヒトへの加害機構と関わりを持つ. 家鼠は食物をヒトに依存する片利共生または寄食性の習性を持つ点で, 野鼠と本質的に異なる(矢部, 1995, 1996, 1998). 寄食性であるために, 建物内で食料や厨芥を食べるだけでなく, 物品に対しても健康に対してもヒトに様々な損害, 危害を与える. 条件によっては耕地や森林原野にも生息し, 農作物や野生の動植物も食べ, 野外と建物との間を移動する. 野外から建物に移動する際に病原体を建物内やその周辺に運び, さらに, 交通機関に紛れ込んでこれを各地へ運ぶ役割も果たす. このような建物内における食料やその他の物品への加害, 野外における農林上の加害, あるいは感染症の媒介などのような加害には, 家鼠の採餌行動と関わりの深い事例が多い(Yabe and Wada, 1983;矢部, 1997b, 1999, 2000;Yabe, 1998;Yabe et al., 2001). それは, 家鼠にとって, 食物の存否が建物内へのすみ着き, 野外における生活, そして建物への移動の主要な動機の一つだからである.

The species composition of the Norway rat, Rattus norvegicus, and the roof rat, R. rattus, in urban areas is influenced by human activities, especially by factors related to urbanization because of their commensalism. Generally in Japan, the changes in their composition seem to have three phases according to the progress of urbanization. The first phase is evidenced by the predominance of the Norway rat population, the second phase by the resurgence of the roof rat population in urban buildings, and the third phase by the predominance of the roof rat population in residential areas as well as in urban buildings. Wide road coverage modifies probably these typical changes through fragmentation of rat habitats as was suggested in Sapporo, where the roof rat populations in urban buildings have been successfully controlled since the 1980s.
