8月18日に公示、30日に投開票となる衆院選に向け、主要な政党のマニフェスト(政権公約)が7月31日までに出そろった。公共事業や建設業に関連する政策について、現政権の自由民主党と次期政権を狙う民主党の違いは何か。課題ごとにその内容を点検する。 まず公共事業について、自民党は「地域生活に不可欠な道路は費用便益比(B/C)にとらわれずに積極的に整備を進める」と明記。

9月6日午前8時半。韓国釜山市の市営葬儀場の一室に、木魚の規則正しい音が響いていた。僧侶が座るすぐ前の祭壇には遺影が飾られ、頭を角刈りにした実直そうな男性が真っすぐ正面を向いていた。祈りをささげる僧侶の周りでは、遺族が腫れぼったい目をして見守っている。 木魚の音がやみ、遺影が運び出されると、それまで涙をこらえていた妻がわっと声を上げて泣き出した。

本報では熱中症の発生は地方によってどのように違いが見られるのかを明らかにすることを目的とした.一般的には熱中症の発生は日中,特に昼間に集中しているが,人口流出入が一日の中の発生頻度に影響を及ぼしていると考えられる.また,全国各地の熱中症の発生頻度は34℃台で地方ごとの顕著な違いが見られ,同じ気温であれば北日本,東日本,西日本の順に高いことが分かった.同じような気候条件にも関わらず,西日本と東日本の発生頻度に差が見られた.60歳以上の高齢者は不快指数77から82にかけて急激に熱中症が増えることも分かった.<br>

マウスの寿命に及ぼす無菌状態と食餌制限の影響について検討した。実験動物は雄のICR系無菌およびSPFマウスを用いた。制限食の開始時期は生後5週とし, 自由摂取群と制限食群とに分けた。制限食群の食餌は自由摂取群の摂取量の80℃6 (4.5g/日) を毎日与えた。平均寿命は自由摂取群のSPFマウスでは75.9週, 無菌マウスでは88.9週, 制限食群のSPFマウスでは117.5週, 無菌マウスでは109.6週であった。また, 体重を計測した結果, 制限食群は自由摂取群と比べて, SPFおよび無菌マウス共に低値の成績が得られた。この結果, 離乳直後からの食餌制限は成熟を遅らせ, 成長期間が長くなり, 寿命が延びている可能性が考えられる。一方, 無菌マウスの平均寿命はSPFマウスの平均寿命と比べて, 自由摂取群では長く, 制限食群では短かった。この成績から, 無菌状態と食餌制限の組合せでは顕著な延命効果は認められなかったが, 各々単独では平均寿命の延長に影響を及ぼしている可能性が示唆された。

Kuchijirosho (snout ulcer disease) is an infectious disease of tiger puffer Takifugu rubripes in Japan and Korea. Little is known about detailed characteristics on the causative agent of kuchijirosho, except it is a filterable agent. In the present study, kuchijirosho associated proteins (KAPs) with molecular weight of 100-120 kDa were detected in brain tissues of tiger puffer by western blot analysis with sera of tiger puffer which survived kuchijirosho, but not in the kidney or spleen tissues. Interestingly, KAPs existed in brain tissues of tiger puffer with no history of kuchijirosho, however, the KAPs were not recognized by those healthy fish sera. KAPs were fractionated in supernatant of brain tissue homogenate containing the kuchijirosho agent by ultra-centrifugation, while pathogenicity of the kuchijirosho agent was observed in the precipitated fraction rather than the supernatant. These results suggest that KAPs are not structural proteins of the kuchijirosho agent, and could be brain tissue proteins antigenically altered by infection of the kuchijirosho agent. It is also considered that the causative agent could be low in antigenicity to host fish because structural proteins of the causative agent was never recognized by host fish sera.

Super-eruption release voluminous sulfuric gas into the atmosphere, which produce a large amount of sulfuric acid aerosol in the stratosphere. The sulfuric acid aerosol reflects incoming solar radiation, giving rise to the rapid climatic cooling called the "volcanic winter" on the Earth's surface. The Toba super-eruption 74,000 years ago, the largest eruption in a million years on the Earth, erupted as much as 2,800 km³ of felsic magma. The average global temperature is estimated to have lowered more than 10°C by the Toba super-eruption, which is inferred to have caused a severe bottleneck of the human population. Modern civilized human society will also suffer fatal damage by "volcanic winter", if a super-eruption were to occur today.<br>

ユーザ周囲の映像を体験記録として自動で記録するウェアラブルカメラが注目されている.しかし,これらの自動撮影は,一度設定した角度や姿勢で撮り続けることが多いために,ユーザの注目位置や意図の強弱が反映された体験記録として保存することが困難であった.そこで本研究では,ボデイウォーンカメラと手持ちカメラの連携による撮影支援を提案する.具体的には,ポディウォーンとそれに取り付けられたセンサ情報から,ユーザにとって重要な場面であるかを推定し,手持ちカメラでの撮影を促すようなシステムを提案する.本システムの目的は,新たに撮影行為の機会を創造することであり,撮影支援から他の様々な行動推薦へと適用することを研究の最終目標とする.Body worn camera which automatically records the scenes of daily lives around the user has been widely spread. However the user's viewpoint or intention are hardly reflected in the photos because we cannot change the angle or the posture when installed. We propose the collaboration system of body worn camera and hand held camera for enhancing experience. We suppose to estimate the situations from body worn camera's pictures and other sensor information. It suggests to take photos by hand held camera. We will motivate the user to take photos and aim to apply this system to action recommendation.

In The Origins of Analytical Philosophy, Dummett criticized the philosophy of Husserl for being a Humpty-Dumpty theory. We reconstruct this criticism into a more general argument that shows that the idea of meaning as a type entails the Humpty-Dumpty theory. In interpreting Dummett's text, we show that the criticism of the Humpty-Dumpty theory is a criticism of "associating expressions with meanings" in an attempt to explain linguistic significance, and that types are not objects, but rather equivalence relations. In addition, we demonstrate that tokens are not concrete, but theoretical objects, and thus should be distinguished from bearers of tokens, which are bare physical objects.

Adam Smith says that when we sympathize with others, we exchange with them not only our "circumstances" but also our "persons and characters". Or, in the words of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, sympathy contains the dynamic element of "mental metamorphosis". My purpose in this paper is to demonstrate how, in the eighteenth century, there existed a theory of literary creation to the effect that a dramatist or novelist writing in direct speech can be, for some moments, sympathetically identified with even an evil person, and make a speech in the character of that person. For example, Thomas Twining, whose fame as a translator and commentator on Aristotle reached Germany, drew on the theories of imitation developed by Plato and Aristotle to submit a theory of dramatic imitation involving the act of speaking or writing "in the character of another person." Somewhat later, William Hazlitt called attention to our unconscious act of speech in dreams, likening them to the art of the ventriloquist ; in other words, one who dreams is not aware that the others who speak to him are, in fact, but a metamorphosis of the dreamer. Using this analogy of "ventriloquism" occurring in dreams, Hazlitt tried to represent the power of a genius to metamorphosize himself involuntarily into another character.

通信・放送機構で平成8年度から12年度まで実施した「視聴覚障害者向け放送ソフト制作技術の研究開発プロジェクト」の研究成果と残された課題について報告する。本プロジェクトの目的は、聴覚障害者のための字幕付きテレビ放送番組を効率的に制作するための技術基盤を確立することである。具体的な研究項目として、自動要約、自動同期、統合化システム技術がある。自動要約については、ニュース記事を対象に文字数にして70%にすることを目標にして研究を進め、「重要文抽出法」と「形態素単位文字数圧縮法」を併用して目標を達成した。自動同期については、ニュースおよびナレーション主体のドキュメンタリー番組を対象に研究し、ナレーションと背景音の比が20dB 以上の番組に対しては自動同期が可能であることを示した。統合化システム技術では、適切な点で字幕の改行・改ページを加える自動字幕画面制作技術を研究し、自動要約、自動同期とあわせて自動字幕制作システム実証モデルを構築した。本実証モデルを用いて評価実験を行い、性能評価を行うと共に実用化のための課題を明らかにした。Telecommunication Advancement Organization of Japan proceeds "Research Project for TV Production for the Seeing and Hearing Impaired" from 1995 to 2001. The purpose of the project is to establish the technologies of producing closed captions for hearing impaired people on TV programs efficiently. We have three research issues in the project: automatic text summarization, automatic synchronization with speech and captions and system engineering. Automatic text summarization summarizes Japanese news text to 70% volume. Important sentence extraction, morphem-based text shortening and bunsetsu-based text shortening are used. Automatic synchronization uses HMM-based word spotter and DP-based synchronizing point search. The method can be applicable to news and narration programs in which signal strength ratio between speech and background sound is more than 20dB. System engineering research results automatic changing method of new page and new line at a point easy to read. We integrate these elementary technologies to the automatic captioning system and evaluate it by caption creators and end users. From this evaluation experiments, we can know the system performance and future research issues.
