犬では洗浄する目的によって適したシャンプーの使い分けが要求される。犬の品種の多様化に伴い, 皮毛の性状の違いや, 皮膚病の種類も多彩になっている。動物用シャンプーには抗脂漏性, 抗菌性あるいは保湿性成分などを含んだ製品がある。この報告では過剰皮脂分泌に対応するコールタール, イオウ, サリチル酸などを含有したビルバック社製製品についての臨床試験成績を報告する。動物病院9カ所から無作為に39頭を選び試験に供した。1日1回の割合で1~12回洗浄し, べたつき, 臭い, 毛づや, くし通り, ふけ, 痒みなど9項目を観察した。結果は洗浄効果97%, ふけ・痒み90%, 消臭効果全例, 保湿性97%, 毛づや・潤い84%と良好な効果を得, また泡立ち, 泡切れなどの点でも使用しやすく, 副作用も認めなかった。.

Med., 1992, 166 (4), 475-477-A cohort study aimed to evaluate the effect of drinking green tea on longevity was performed. Three thousand three hundred and eighty female practitioners of chanoyu (Japanese tea-ceremony), living in Tokyo, were followed from 1980 to 1988, and 280 were dead during this period. Standardized mortality ratios were estimated 0.55 when all Japanese women was used as standard population and 0.57 when women living in Tokyo was used, indicating the possibility that green tea is a protective factor for several fatal diseases.

Osteoporosis is a skeletal disorder characterized by low bone mineral density (BMD) and an increased susceptibility to fractures. Evidence from genetic studies indicates that BMD, a complex quantitative trait with a normal distribution, is genetically controlled. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) as well as studies using candidate gene approaches have identified single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are associated with BMD, osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures. These SNPs have been mapped close to or within genes including those encoding WNT/β-catenin signaling proteins. Understanding the genetics of osteoporosis will help to identify novel candidates for diagnostic and therapeutic targets. Genetic factors are also important for the development of sarcopenia, which is characterized by a loss of lean body mass, and obesity, which is characterized by high fat mass. Hence, in this review, we discuss the genetic factors, identified by genetic studies, which regulate the body components related to osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and obesity.

Biofilm-forming ability is increasingly being recognized as an important virulence factor in several Staphylococcus species. This study evaluated the biofilm-forming ability of sixty canine derived clinical isolates of S. pseudintermedius, using three phenotypic methods, microtiter plate test (MtP), Congo red agar method (CRA) and tube adherence test, and the presence and impact of biofilm-associated genes (icaA and icaD). The results showed that icaA and icaD genes were detected concomitantly in 55 (91.7%) of 60 isolates. A majority (88.3%) of the strains screened had matching results by the tube adherence test, MtP and PCR analysis. Better agreement (95%) was found between the PCR-based analysis and the CRA. Results of the icaA and icaD gene PCRs showed good agreement with CRA results, with a kappa of 0.7. Comparing the phenotypic methods, the statistical analysis showed that the agreement among the phenotypical tests using categorical data was generally good. Considering two classes (biofilm producer and biofilm non-producer), the percentage of matching results between the CRA method and the tube adherence test and between the CRA method and the MtP was 93.3%. A concordance of 100% was revealed between the MtP and the tube adherence test. The results indicate a high prevalence of the ica genes within S. pseudintermedius isolates, and their presence is associated with in vitro formation of a biofilm. A combination of phenotypic and genotypic tests is recommended for investigating biofilm formation in S. pseudintermedius.

空間的に発達する乱流をLESで計算するための流入境界条件の設定方法として,リニアフォーシングに着目し,リニアフォーシングにおいて乱流長さスケールを規定する方法を考案した.等方乱流を対象としたLESの結果から,本リニアフォーシング法のLESへの適用性,乱流長さスケールを規定する方法の有効性を評価した.その結果,全散逸率に対するサブグリッドスケール散逸率の比が0.6より小さくなる格子条件下において,リニアフォーシングで生成されるべき等方乱流の基本的な性質を再現できた.また,本リニアフォーシング法で導入される時間平均長さの設定により,パワースペクトルの低波数域を変化させ,乱流の長さスケールを調整できることが示された.

髄膜癌腫症は癌細胞が脳・脊髄軟膜にびまん性に転移し, 髄膜刺激症状や脳神経症状などが多発性に出現する頭蓋内転移の中でも比較的稀な病態である。 悪性腫瘍の既往のある患者に脳神経症状が発症した場合には本症を疑うが, 潜在性の悪性腫瘍の初発症状として出現した場合には診断が非常に難しい。 予後は非常に不良で神経症状などの発症後1~2ヵ月で死に至る場合も多い。 今回われわれは進行性の感音難聴を初発症状とした, 胃癌転移による髄膜癌腫症の1例を経験した。 進行性の感音難聴や難治性の顔面神経麻痺を認める場合, 髄膜癌腫症も鑑別に入れ, 精査を行う必要があると思われた。

生物群集の形成過程において、種間相互作用は競争種間の形質置換や資源分割、分布様式を決定するメカニズムとして注目されてきた。本研究では、キノコ(硬質菌)をめぐる昆虫群集を対象として、種間相互作用と環境要因の2つの視点から群集の構造と形成過程の説明を試みた。タコウキン科の一種ヒトクチタケには3種のスペシャリスト昆虫(カブトゴミムシダマシ・ヒラタキノコゴミムシダマシ(いずれも甲虫)とオオヒロズコガの1種(蛾))がほぼ同じ密度で棲息・産卵し、幼虫が激しく食害した。空間分布解析の結果、甲虫2種は共存するが、甲虫と蛾は原則的に共存せず、後者では種間相互作用が産卵を通じて影響した可能性があった。これに対して飼育実験では、同一子実体に共存させた甲虫2種の間にほとんど影響はなく、甲虫と蛾の間には負の影響が認められた。一方、群集構造と環境要因との相関はほとんど認められなかった。これらの結果から、ヒトクチタケをめぐる昆虫群集では3種が互角な消費型競争を繰り広げ、それゆえに環境要因よりも種間相互作用のほうが群集形成に重要な役割を果たしていることが示唆された。

GPR56 is a member of the adhesion G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and is highly expressed in parts of tumor cells. The involvement of GPR56 in tumorigenesis has been reported. We generated agonistic monoclonal antibodies against human GPR56 and analyzed the action and signaling pathway of GPR56. The antibodies inhibited cell migration through the Gq and Rho pathway in human glioma U87-MG cells. Co-immunoprecipitation analysis indicated that the interaction between the GPR56 extracellular domain and transmembrane domain was potentiated by agonistic antibodies. These results demonstrated that functional antibodies are invaluable tools for GPCR research and should open a new avenue for therapeutic treatment of tumors.

The renal biopsy tissue from a 9-month-old, male Pyrenean Mountain dog with renal disorder and severe proteinuria was examined. Ultrastructural examination revealed multilaminar splitting and fragmentation of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) and diffuse podocyte foot process effacement. Immunofluorescent staining for α (IV) chains revealed presence of α5 (IV) and complete absence of α3 (IV) and α4 (IV) chains in the GBM. Immunohistochemistry also revealed decreased and altered expression of nephrin and podocin in the glomeruli compared with normal canine glomeruli. These results suggested that the glomerular disease of the present case might be consistent with canine hereditary nephropathy resembling human Alport syndrome caused by genetic defect of type IV collagen, and indicated possible contribution of podocyte injury to severe proteinuria in this case.

We examined the correlation between the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimated from an equation based on the serum iodixanol clearance technique and International Renal Interest Society (IRIS) stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in cats. The equation included the injection dose, sampling time, serum concentration, and estimated volume of distribution (Vd) of the isotonic, nonionic, contrast medium iodixanol as a test tracer. The percent changes in the median basal GFR values calculated from the equation in CKD cats resembled those of IRIS stages 1–3. These data validate the association between the GFR derived from the simplified equation and IRIS stages based on the serum creatinine concentration in cats with CKD. They describe the GFR ranges determined using single-sample iodixanol clearance for healthy cats and cats with various IRIS stages of CKD.

A novel series of N-acylamino acid analogues of 2 (1H) -quinolinone was synthesized and evaluated for antiulcer activity against acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer in rats. Out of this investigation, 2- (4-chlorobenzoylamino) -3- [2 (1H) -quinolinon-4-yl] propionic acid (rebamipide, OPC-12759) was identified The structureactivity relationships are discussed.Rebamipide did not only increase the healing rate of a chronic gastric ulcer model, acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer in rats, but also prevented recurrence and/or relapse of the ulcer in long term observation Rebamipide inhibited the formation of gastric mucosal lesions induced by various conditions. Rebamipide did not inhibit gastric acid secretion, although it potentiated gastric mucosal defensive factors such as mucus secretion, alkaline secretion, gastric mucosal blood flow and mucosal barrier. Rebamipide inhibited ethanol-induced gastric mucosal necrosis, which was completely abolished by pretreatment with indomethacin, suggesting the mucosal protective effect is associated with endogenous prostaglandins. Rebamipide inhibited production of superoxide from polymorphonuclear leukocytes and scavenged hydroxyl radical in vitro. Rebamipide showed useful efficacy on Helicobacter pylori-induced cell damage associated with activated neutrophils.The enantiomers of rebamipide were synthesized by using three efficient methods. Both enantiomers showed anti-ulcer activity against acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer and EtOH-induced gastric ulcer. The pair of enantiomers showed a small difference in activity.

Loaches, Misgurnus anguillicaudatus, collected from Torentsu river, Ibaraki, Japan, were found to comprise two types based on the morphological and genetic traits. Complete substitution of alleles of the two types at the AAT-2* and GPI-1* loci were found, as well as significant differences in allele frequencies at eight other loci. The genetic distance between the two types was 0.4. The belly color was yellowish in type I and grayish in type II, and the average number of precurrent rays was 21.4 (range: 16-25) and 10.5 (range: 7-13), respectively.The results suggested that the two types should be regarded as a distinct biological species.

岐阜県丹生川村, 町方地域の美濃帯の珪質泥岩および泥岩から, 前期ジュラ紀を示す放散虫化石が多数得られた.本調査地域の中生界は, 泥岩基質中に主に砂岩, 珪質泥岩, チャートおよび苦鉄質火山岩類を岩塊または岩片として含むメランジュからなる.これらは美濃帯の中期ジュラ紀付加コンプレックスの一部とされている.今回, 町方地域のメランジュ基質の泥岩から得た放散虫化石群集は, 前期ジュラ紀を示し, 過去に報告されてきた周囲の付加コンプレックスのものよりも明らかに時代が古い.また, 町方地域のメランジュは, 周囲の付加コンプレックスのメランジュとは岩相上の特徴にも違いが見られる.
