骨格系の組織のうち,骨・筋肉組織は,人体の支持組織として不可欠な組織である.この筋骨格系の維持機能は非常に重要である.組織が損傷する,すなわち骨折,筋肉打撲といった筋骨格系の組織損傷は日常しばしば発生し,その組織損傷は直ちに正しく修復されなければならない.この修復機構は厳密に体内で制御されている.組織損傷の下では,凝固線溶系の活性化が不可欠である.組織内血管が,筋骨格系組織の損傷によって,破綻がおき,瞬く間に凝固線溶系カスケードが作用し修復機能が働く.フィブリンが形成され止血に働き,役割を終えたフィブリン網はプラスミンによって分解される.このプラスミンを中心とした線溶系は,実はフィブリンの溶解といった古典的作用だけでなく,多様な生理的および病態生理的作用を果たしている.本稿では,この凝固線溶機能と骨と筋肉組織修復の関与とその機序に関して,今までの知見とともに概説したい.

Hayabusa2 is an asteroid exploration mission to return surface samples of a near-Earth C-type asteroid (162173) 1999 JU3. Because asteroids are the evolved remnants of planetesimals that were the building blocks of planets, detailed observation by a spacecraft and analysis of the returned samples will provide direct evidence regarding planet formation and the dynamic evolution of the solar system. Moreover, C-type asteroids are expected to preserve the most pristine materials in the solar system, a mixture of minerals, ice, and organic matter that interact with each other. Space missions are the only way to obtain such pristine materials with geologic context and without terrestrial contamination. Hayabusa2 will launch off in 2014, arrive at 1999 JU3 in mid-2018, and fully investigate and sample the asteroid at three different locations during its 18-month stay. The concept and design of the Hayabusa2 sampler are basically the same as that on-board Hayabusa, and impact sampling with a 5-g Ta bullet will be made at three locations of the asteroid. The sample container has three separate chambers inside to store samples obtained at different locations separately. The spacecraft will return to Earth with samples in December 2020. Returned samples will be investigated by state-of-the-art analytical techniques in 2020 to understand the evolutionary history of the solar system from 4.56 Gyr ago to the present by combining results from laboratory examinations of the returned samples with remote-sensing datasets and comparing all results of observations of meteorites, interplanetary dust particles, and future returned samples.

This study investigated the effects of twice daily sessions of low-intensity resistance training (LIT, 20% of 1-RM) with restriction of muscular venous blood flow (namely “LIT-Kaatsu” training) for two weeks on skeletal muscle size and circulating insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Nine young men performed LIT-Kaatsu and seven men performed LIT alone. Training was conducted two times / day, six days / week for 2 weeks using 3 sets of two dynamic exercises (squat and leg curl). Muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) and volume were measured by magnetic resonance imaging at baseline and 3 days after the last training session (post-testing). Mid-thigh muscle-bone CSA was calculated from thigh girth and adipose tissue thickness, which were measured every morning prior to the training session. Serum IGF-1 concentration was measured at baseline, mid-point of the training and post-testing. Increases in squat (17%) and leg curl (23%) one-RM strength in the LIT-Kaatsu were higher (p<0.05) than those of the LIT (9% and 2%). There was a gradual increase in circulating IGF-1 and muscle-bone CSA (both p<0.01) in the LIT-Kaatsu, but not in the LIT. Increases in quadriceps, biceps femoris and gluteus maximus muscle volume were, respectively, 7.7%, 10.1% and 9.1% for LIT-Kaatsu (p<0.01) and 1.4%, 1.9% and -0.6% for LIT (p>0.05). There was no difference (p>0.05) in relative strength (1-RM / muscle CSA) between baseline and post-testing in both groups. We concluded that skeletal muscle hypertrophy and strength gain occurred after two weeks of twice daily LIT-Kaatsu training.

Recent studies showed that perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) affects the mammalian immune system at levels reportedly found in the general human population. It has been demonstrated that exposure to immunotoxic chemicals may diminish the host resistance of animals to various pathogenic challenges and enhance mortality. Therefore, the current study was carried out to characterize the effect of a 21 day pre-administration of zero, 5, or 25 μg PFOS/kg bw/day in female B6C3F1 mice on host resistance to influenza A virus infection. At the end of PFOS exposure, body/organ weights did not significantly change whereas PFOS distribution in blood plasma, spleen, thymus and lung was dose-dependently increased. PFOS exposure in mice resulted a significant increase in emaciation and mortality in response to influenza A virus. The effective plasma concentrations in female mice were at least several fold lower than reported mean blood PFOS levels from occupationally exposed humans, and fell in the upper range of blood concentrations of PFOS in the normal human population and in a wide range of wild animals. Hence, it should be important to clarify the precise mechanism(s) for excess mortality observed in the high dose group.

This paper shows the CFODD of the regional dependence of cloud growth processes in low-level clouds obtained by the combined use of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard the Aqua satellite and the Cloud Profiling Radar (CPR) on the CloudSat satellite. This enabled the evaluation of the cloud growth process based on the cloud optical thickness (τ) and the effective radius of cloud particle (Re), similar to previous studies that performed statical analysis on low-level clouds over the globe. Our targets were regions in East Asian, Californian, and Peruvian. In all analysis areas, our results showed that the internal structure of clouds changed as Re increased, indicating cloud growth. In the East Asian region, the maximum τ remained relatively constant even when cloud droplet size grew. In contrast, in the regions of Californian and Peruvian, the maximum τ increased with Re during the condensation growth process and then decreased as drizzle particles transformed into rain. It was also found that Re was smaller in the East Asian region unlike in Californian and Peruvian. This indicates that there are more aerosols in the East Asian region, which is consistent with its geographical characteristics.

KAATSU training is a novel training, which is performed under conditions of restricted blood flow. It can induce a variety of beneficial effects such as increased muscle strength, and it has been adopted by a number of facilities in recent times. The purpose of the present study is to know the present state of KAATSU training in Japan and examine the incidence of adverse events in the field. The data were obtained from KAATSU leaders or instructors in a total of 105 out of 195 facilities where KAATSU training has been adopted. Based on survey results, 12,642 persons have received KAATSU training (male 45.4%, female 54.6%). KAATSU training has been applied to all generations of people including the young (<20 years old) and the elderly (>80 years old). The most popular purpose of KAATSU training is to strengthen muscle in athletes and to promote the health of subjects, including the elderly. It has been also applied to various kinds of physical conditions, cerebrovascular diseases, orthopedic diseases, obesity, cardiac diseases, neuromuscular diseases, diabetes, hypertension and respiratory diseases. In KAATSU training, various types of exercise modalities (physical exercise, walking, cycling, and weight training) are used. Most facilities have used 5-30 min KAATSU training each time, and performed it 1-3 times a week. Approximately 80% of the facilities are satisfied with the results of KAATSU training with only small numbers of complications reported. The incidence of side effects was as follows; venous thrombus (0.055%), pulmonary embolism (0.008%) and rhabdomyolysis (0.008%). These results indicate that the KAATSU training is a safe and promising method for training athletes and healthy persons, and can also be applied to persons with various physical conditions.

"1.リノール酸またはコーンオイル添食による脂肪酸の生体内における挙動 リノール酸5g摂取によって血清のリノール酸は低下しアラキドン酸が4倍以上に増加した.しかしコーンオイル60g摂取によって,血清脂肪酸組成はアラキドン酸がやや減少しステアリン酸とオレイン酸は増加した.この相違については今後検討するつもりである.皮膚分泌物の脂肪酸組成は,リノール酸またはコーンオイル添食によっていずれもほとんど変動なく,パルミテン酸が30~40%をしめ次にステアリン酸,アラキドン酸が多く,いずれの場合も血清には不飽和脂肪酸が多く皮膚分泌物は大部分飽和脂肪酸よりなっていた.即ち血清成分がそのまま皮膚に浸透して分泌されるのではなく,汗腺,皮脂腺などで選択されて分泌されると考えられる.尿中脂肪酸組成はオレイン酸,ステアリン酸,パルミチン酸が多く,バルミトレイン酸は個体差が大きかった.必須脂肪酸は血清に比べて少く,コーンオイル摂取によって血清中の必須脂肪酸はほとんど変動しなかったが,尿中多価不飽和脂肪酸は増加した.2.リノール酸またはコーンオイル添食による血清脂質成分の変動 CHはいずれの場合も減少し,特にコーンオイル添食で著しく,従来血中のCHを低下させる因子の1つとして高度不飽和脂肪酸を含む植物油がよいとされている事実を裏付けた.CHを約48%含むβ-LPも同様に食後減少がみられた.TGは食後3時問に有意に増加した.これらの現象はリノール酸5g摂取よりもコーンオイル60g摂取の場合の方がその影響は顕著であった."

Background:Randomized trials have been underpowered to determine an effect of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guidance on hard outcomes for drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation.Methods and Results:Randomized trials that compared IVUS guidance vs. angiographic guidance for DES implantation were included; 10 trials with 5,060 patients. IVUS guidance was associated with a lower incidence of cardiovascular death (odds ratio [OR] 0.44, 95% CI 0.26–0.75), and myocardial infarction (OR 0.55, 95% CI 0.32–0.94).Conclusions:IVUS-guidance is associated with a lower incidence of cardiovascular death and myocardial infarction in the era of DES. These findings should encourage operators to use IVUS more often.

Background: Spontaneous type 1 electrocardiogram (ECG) in the right precordial lead is a dominant predictor of ventricular fibrillation (VF) in Brugada syndrome (BrS). In some BrS patients with VF, however, spontaneous type 1 ECG is undetectable, even in repeated ECG and immediately after VF. This study investigated differences between BrS patients with spontaneous or drug-induced type 1 ECG. Methods and Results: We evaluated 15 BrS patients with drug-induced (D-BrS) and 29 with spontaneous type 1 ECG (SP-BrS). All patients had had a previous VF episode. In each D-BrS patient, ECG was recorded more than 15 times (mean, 46±34) during 7.2±5.1 years of follow-up. Age and family history were comparable between groups. Inferolateral early repolarization (ER) was observed in 13 D-BrS (87%) at least once but in only 3 SP-BrS (10%, P<0.01). Immediately after VF, inferolateral ER was accentuated in 9 of 10 D-BrS, while type 1 ECG was accentuated in 12 of 16 SP-BrS. Fragmented QRS in the right precordial lead and aVR sign were absent in D-BrS but present in 20 (69%, P<0.01) and 11 (38%, P<0.01) SP-BrS, respectively. There was no prognostic difference between groups. Conclusions: Although having similar clinical profiles, there are obvious ECG differences between VF-positive BrS patients with spontaneous or drug-induced type 1 ECG. The inferolateral lead rather than the right precordial lead on ECG may be particularly crucial in some BrS patients.

Skeletal muscle adapts to a progressive overload, but the response can vary between different modes and intensities of exercise. Generally, a minimal threshold intensity of 65% of the one repetition maximum (1-RM) is needed to elicit muscle hypertrophy; however, recent studies have challenged this hypothesis and have provided evidence that low-intensity training (LIT) combined with vascular restriction (KAATSU) may also elicit increases in muscle size and strength. The physiological aspects of applying vascular restriction during exercise are not fully understood and may be explained by several factors. Examining the results of previous studies may help elucidate the factors responsible for the adaptations associated with vascular restriction in humans. Therefore, the objectives of this review are to summarize current knowledge regarding the physiological adaptations of skeletal muscle after low-intensity exercise combined with vascular restriction, the different training protocols used to elicit adaptations, and suggested areas for future research.

This study evaluated the impact of a future space-borne Doppler wind lidar (DWL) on a super-low-altitude orbit using an observing system simulation experiment (OSSE) based on a sensitivity observing system experiment (SOSE) approach. Realistic atmospheric data, including wind and temperature, was provided as “pseudo-truth” (PT) to simulate DWL observations. Hourly aerosols and clouds that are consistent with PT winds were also created for the simulation. A full-scale lidar simulator, which is described in detail in the companion paper, simulated realistic line-of-sight wind measurements and observation quality information, such as signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) and measurement error. Quality control (QC) procedures in the data assimilation system were developed to select high-quality DWL observations based on the averaged SNR from strong backscattering in the presence of aerosols or clouds. Also, DWL observation errors used in the assimilation were calculated using the measurement error estimated by the lidar simulator. The forecast impacts of DWL onboard polar- and tropical-orbiting satellites were assessed using the operational global data assimilation system. Data assimilation experiments were conducted in January and August in 2010 to assess overall impact and seasonal dependence. It is found that DWL on either polar- or tropical-orbiting satellites is overall beneficial for wind and temperature forecasts, with greater impacts for the January experiments. The relative forecast error reduction reaches almost 2 % in the tropics. An exception is a degradation in the southern hemisphere in August, suggesting a need to further refine observation error assignment and QC. A decisive conclusion cannot be drawn of the superiority of polar- or tropical-orbiting satellites due to their mixed impacts. This is probably related to the characteristics of error growth in the tropics. The limitations and possible underestimation of the DWL impacts, for example due to a simple observation error inflation setting, in the SOSE-OSSE are also discussed.

A hybrid directional probe method both “thermal and Langmuir probe” was applied for fast ion measurements in the compact helical system. In order to obtain absolute values of fast ion density and power density, a calibration of the probe was performed using neutral hydrogen beam and a mixture beam of hydrogen and proton, of which beam current and energy were controlled. The conversion factor from temperature increase of the probe head to local power density and secondary electron emission yield was obtained. The density of fast ions was obtained by directional thermal probe (DTP) method inside the last closed flux surface, and the density ratio was nFastIon/nBulkPlasma = 2.7 × 10-3 at r/a = 0.9. The observation of the directional Langmuir probe (DLP) method is consistent with the DTP results.
