Juveniles were the foremost target of attempts to transform the Japanese people into imperial subjects during the late nineteenth century, with prominent intellectuals marshalling the influence of mass media in support of this goal. This essay examines the case of Shōnen’en (1888–1895), Japan’s first major juvenile magazine, exploring its use of science in shaping the identity of the modern imperial subject. With the turn to morals-driven education in the mid-Meiji period, the government sidelined science instruction in schools, considering it a Western import detrimental to developing loyalty to the emperor. However, at this time, Shōnen’en’s editor placed great emphasis on science, believing it to be not only compatible with, but also an important means of nurturing juvenile subjecthood. Drawing on an image of science that had taken shape during the eighteenth century, when scientific discovery came to be seen as an endeavor requiring both intellectual and physical prowess, Shōnen’en (Youth’s garden) offered Japanese adolescents an imaginary landscape in which they could envisage themselves as heroic and truth-seeking imperial officers. This examination of a magazine published before Japan’s modern international wars broadens our understanding of the role of science in mid-Meiji Japan by demonstrating how an influential publication used science to shape the identity of the modern imperial subject, and shows that these efforts predated the establishment of Japan’s formal empire.

日本では 2006 年度以降, 厚生労働省により高齢者の 「虐待等による死亡例」 が調査されるようになった. 警察庁も 2007 年以降, 犯罪の直接の動機・原因が 「介護・看病疲れ」 の事件数を公表している. 2000 年に介護保険が導入されて以降, 介護サービスの充実が目指されているが, これらの調査によれば, 親族による, 介護をめぐって発生した高齢者の殺害や心中の事件が顕著に減少したという傾向は見られない.このような事件を防止するためには, 介護される者に加え, 介護する者へも支援を行うこと, 特に介護者のうつを早期に発見し必要な支援を行えるようにすること, BPSD への対応について具体的なアドバイスを行うことが必要である.また, 介護を引き受けたからといって社会から孤立することなく, 大切な人々との絆を大切にしつつ, 無理なく介護を行うことができるような介護者支援システムの構築, 法基盤の整備が早急の課題である.

May 21, 2012, solar eclipse was observed in Japan. This time, annular eclipse occurred over a wide range; i.e. the southern part of Kyushu, the southern part of Shikoku, the southern part of the Kinki, the southern part of the Chubu, such as the Kanto. Other regions became a partial solar eclipse. Approximately 83 million people are living in the path of annular phase, we were expected many people to observe the eclipse. Eclipse is a valuable opportunity to increase interest in science. On the other hand, when observing the sun, it runs a strong risk that leads to trouble in the eyes of people due to the strong sunlight. For example, in the case of the eclipse in Germany in 1912, solar eclipse retinopathy patients of 3,500 has occurred. We conducted our activities for many people to observe the eclipse safe. One of them is the spread of safe solar eclipse observation method, another is a research study of the safety of the solar eclipse glasses.In this paper, we report the transmittance measured in the various filters; solar viewing glass on the market, and their substitutes. These are valuable archival material related to solar observation glass for the solar eclipse in the future.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the idea of Dorothy Smith’s institutional ethnography(IE) though reading her early study, “Institutional Ethnography: A Feminist Research Strategy ”(Smith1987:151-179).In this article she re-raised the classical sociological issue about the relationship betweenpeople’s local and particular experience and extra-local and general social relations, and suggestedan alternative sociology that explores how the everyday world of people’s experience is put togetherby social relations that extend beyond the everyday world. She applied Ethnomethodological notionof accountability to the institutional context and located institutional accounting practices tying localsettings of everyday world to the nonlocal organization of the ‘ruling apparatus’. Dorothy Smith’sIE explores how actual work processes are made accountable through institutional ideologicalprocedures that attend selectively to work processes, thus making only selective aspect of themaccountable within the institutional order. In so doing IE tries to break through to the penumbra notcomprehended by institutional accounting practices.Trough examining the idea of Smith’s IE, this paper tries to develop the method of sociologicalinquiry into knowing the social from people’s actual everyday world.

There are twelve food names and simple recipes for each under the heading “huihui shihp’in” 回回食品 in the Chücia Piyung Shihlei, seven of which are transliterated into Chinese characters from their original languages Arabic, Persian or Turkish. There is the Persian sweetmeat, shakarbūra, the Turkish pasta dish, ṭuṭumāj, the Arabic flour porridge, harīsa and four Arabic sweetmeats, fālūdhaj, ḥalwā’, qurṣ zalābīya. Thc other five names are paraphrastic translations appearing as Chinese ideographs: samosa (chüanchienping), rice porridge (kaomi), sweet and sour meat stew (suant’ang), savory bottled custard (hailossŭ), and stuffed lung (hêhsifei).According to the Arabic sources regarding the seven transliterated foods, five (other than shakarbūra and qurṣ) were popular and well-known throughout the Islamic world during the 13th century and were often served at parties and on festival days. Harīsa, fālūdhaj, ḥalwā’ and zalābīya were also sold at food stands in the markets of the eastern Islamic world. Shakarbūra, however, is found only in Persian sources; and there is no sweetmeat in either the Arabic or Persian sources resembling qurṣ, Ḥalwā’ and ṭuṭumāj first appeared in the Arabic sources in the 13th century, which implies that the Chinese description of “huihui Shihp’in” 回回食品 was written around that time.Four of the five foods appearing in paraphrastic translation have their counterparts in the extant medieval Arabic cookbooks, and nothing resembling stuffed lung hêhsifei can be found.The reason why the recipes for “huihui shihp’in” 回回食品 do not call for the spices that were generally used in the Islamic world is because the Chüchia Piyung Shihlei was compiled for Han people who had no actual intention of cooking for Muslims or trying to obtain the rare spices in the original dishes. Rather, the description of Muslim food in the Chinese sources was provided for members of the Mongol ruling elite and Han bureaucrats and wealthy bourgeois who had found it necessary to know about Muslim cuisine in order to entertain highly ranked Muslims who came into their company, since most Chinese sources of the time reflect nothing but loathing for Muslims in general.Notwithstanding, the descriptions of “huihui shihp’in” 回回食品 do show relatively closer political and economic relationships between Muslims and the Chinese within the political and economic environment created under the Yüan Dynasty.

Since the early 20th century Japanese poets have written with intensity and eloquence in opposition to war. Antiwar poetry in Japan has been composed across a broad spectrum of genres, styles, and philosophical perspectives. Poetry opposed to war in Japan, as elsewhere, tends to by highly personal in nature. Poets often describe the experience of the individual in wartime. Some write explicitly about family members, lovers, friends, and about their own experiences in poems that extract war from the depersonalizing realm of newspaper headlines and casualty figures.During the Russo-Japanese War, Ōtsuka Kusuoko and Yosano Akiko wrote about soldiers at the front. Yosano's admonition to her brother at Port Arthur in "Do Not Give Your Life" caused another poet,Ōmachi Keigetsu, to charge her with treason when the poem was first published in 1904. It has been the subject of lively controversy among literary critics ever since. After World War I poets Momota Sōji and Fukuda Masao wrote poems bitterly critical of Japan's costly military thrust into Siberia. In the 1920s poetry oppesed to war in Japan was often heavily infused with the doctrine of the Proletarian Literature movement. But such works as Miyoshi Jūro's "A Letter to Shantung" and Negishi Masayoshi's highly sarcastic "For the Sake of the Nation" were less ideological in their criticism of the military and the draft.The vast majority of writers in Japan supported the nation's war effort between 1937 and 1945. Still, controversy remains over a small number of poets, such as Yamanoguchi Baku and Kaneko Mitsuharu, whose writing of this period has been interpreted as critical of the war. With the revulsion toward war felt in Japan since 1945, poets have regularly produced antiwar poems that have been published singly and in anthologies.

本稿では,家計の貯蓄行動を例として取り上げ,日本人は特殊であるか否かについて吟味する。より具体的には,(1)日本人は経済合理性に基づいて行動するか否か,(2)日本人の行動は国民性・社会規範などにも影響されるか否かについて検証する。日本人は貯蓄好きな国民であると良くいわれ,そういった国民性・社会規範はそう簡単には変わらないと考えた場合,日本の家計の貯蓄行動が主に国民性・社会規範によって決まっているのであれば,日本の家計貯蓄率は絶対的にも,他の国と比較しても,高い水準で安定しているはずである。しかし,日本のこれまでの家計貯蓄率の時間的推移をみてみると,日本の家計貯蓄率は非常に不安定であり,低いことが多く,またマイナスになることもあった。したがって,本稿の分析結果は,日本の家計貯蓄率の主な決定要因は国民性・社会規範ではないということを示唆する。加えて,日本の家計貯蓄率が過去において高かったこと,また近年減少していることの両方を様々な人口学的要因・経済社会的要因によって説明することができるという本稿の分析結果も,日本の家計の貯蓄行動が経済合理性に基づくものであり,必ずしも国民性・社会規範によって決まっているものではないということを示唆する。しかし,社会規範が家計貯蓄行動に限定的ではあるが影響を及ぼすという研究結果も報告されており,社会規範の重要性を完全に排除することはできない。

活性酸素の害を防ぐことでその機能性が注目されている抗酸化食品について、DPPH ラジカル消去能の測定法による探索を試みた。その結果、野菜・果物やそれらの飲料は抗酸化力(Δ吸光度/g(ml))が数十前後から百強だったのに対して、香辛料(粉末)は一部を除き概ね数百から数千と高い値を示した。但し一食分を念頭に置くと両者の抗酸化力にほぼ差はなくなること、また強い抗酸化力を有する食品の摂取がヒトの健康に実効があるとの結論づけは時期尚早であることに言及した。

In recent years, self-affirmation has been attracting attention in the area of education and psychology, Since it was pointed out that Children’s self-affirmation of Japan is lower than in a foreign country of a children. For this reason, research and practice to raise the self-affirmation of children have been made. However, it is not a study about the increase of self-affirmation of college students so that, In this study, we investigated the influence factors on the self-affirmation of college students. As a result, it was found that anxiety abandoned and communication skills can affect the self-affirmation.
