In the inter-War period, a major problem in the Australia-Japan relations was how to defend the White Australian policy against Japan who had been building up an important status in international relationship. In particular, after World War I, Australia came to regard Japan as a threat to its safety. Japan's occupation of the South-Sea Islands (Nanyo Gunto) and her racial equality proposal at the Paris Peace Conference intensified such perception. Mr. E. L. Piesse was the Director of the Pacific Branch of the Prime Minister's Department from 1919 to 1923. As such he exerted considerable influence on Australian foreign policy. This essay examines Piesse's view on Japan and the Japanese reaction to his view. Piesse suggested the adoption of pragmatic policy towards Japan, but his proposal was rejected because most Australians increasingly considered Japan as a threat. Their judgment was made on the basis of partial and incorrect information. In this period, the basic structure of Australia-Japan relations was that the more strenuously Japan attempted to preserve her dignity as an empire, the more serious the threat Australia felt from Japan. Piesse thought that it was important to preserve White Australia without hurting Japan's sense of national pride. But his view was not supported, and he resigned his post after Japan's threat had become felt less keenly due to the Washington Conference which replaced the Anglo-Japanese Alliance with the Four-Power Treaty. In this way this structure continued to remain as a fundamental problem in Australia-Japan relations.

Ball shooting machine (pitching machine) is used for practicing ball sports, and it is widely prevalent. However, there are few pitching machines that can throw a ball with a gyro spin, such as a football or rifle bullet, in which the axis of the ball spins in the same direction as the ball travels. In this study, a new ball shooting machine, which can throw in the ball in a wide range of speeds and all pitch types (no, top, down, side and gyro spin balls) was invented by introducing a launch mechanism using four rollers (two launch and two gyro rollers). The shooting machine is able to arbitrarily change the rotational speed of the four rollers and the crossing angle of both gyro rollers. Shooting tests were conducted using the prototype shooting machine to confirm the ability of its performance. From the experiment results, the prototype machine had a maximum ball speed of 42.5 m/s, a spin rate of exceeding 5000 rpm, and a ball of any pitch type could also be shot. In addition, the position accuracy (shot accuracy) at the targeted fall position in the opponent's court was high because the gyro spin and other pitch types (no, top and side spins) were less than 140 mm and 40 mm (the diameter of one table tennis ball), respectively. The prototype machine had the necessary launching performance for table tennis practice of a college student level.

発達指数では,修正年齢6ヶ月のPDIおよび12ヶ月のMDIにおいて,危険率5%でSFD児がAFD児より低値を示したが,36ヶ月の時点では有意差がなかった. 6ヶ月時の家庭環境値(Caldwell)と発達指数との間に,有意な相関を認めた. 新生児行動評価の個々のクラスター値のみからは発達障害児の予後診断は困難であるが数回の評価を通して,低クラスター値の持続期間とそれらの重複度数とから可能となる.したがって,high risk児に対してはNBASを介入手段として早期評価を実施し,必要に応じて早期療育下に発達経過を観察することが肝要である.In the development of SFD infants, the indices at 6 months and 12 months were significantly lower (P<0.05) compared to AFD infants, whereas the indices at 36 months didn't show significant differences. The environment scores at 6 months by Caldwell (Home) significantly affected the development indices. Prospective diagnosis of high risk infants is difficult when it is based only on the scores of individual clusters for the neonatal behavioral assessment. However, such a prospective diagnosis in the neonatal period is available to some extent when the duration of low cluster scores and the frequency of overlapped lowscores are taken into consideration. It seems essential to perform assessment of high risk infants using the NBAS as a means of early intervention and to observe the process of development under early treatment and care. We would like to carry out further studies with more cases.

本論文は,物理的観点に立脚した降雨流出機構の解明および様々な流域に普遍的に適用可能な降雨流出計算手法の構築を目的とし,有効降雨に対して実測流量データから逆推定を行ったものである.実測流量データから求めた有効降雨と流域の保水能分布から求めた有効降雨の比較を行うことにより,有効降雨の時間変動特性および物理的解釈に対して考察を行った.これにより,有効降雨の物理的解釈は降雨の形で有効降雨をとる場合と流出寄与域の形で有効降雨をとるという二つのタイプを考える必要があることを示した.また,累積降雨量に応じた流出寄与面積,流出寄与斜面長の変動を考慮した流出計算手法を新たに提案し,草木ダム流域へ実際に適用することでその合理性・実用性を示した.

中学校家庭科・家庭生活領域における家庭経済は生徒の興味, 関心が薄い部分である.そこで落下ゲーム型の分類ソフトで支出とその分類を把握させ, ロールプレイングゲーム風のシミュレーションソフトで1週間の予算生活をシミュレーションした.この2種類のエデュティンメントソフトを活用したことで, 楽しみながら試行錯誤でき, 予算生活の基本に気がつき, 家庭の経済に目を向けることができたので報告をする.
