Mitochondria play a central role in energy production but also are the main cellular source of reactive oxygen species (ROS). It is widely believed that aging is related to the accumulation of oxidative molecular damage due to ROS. Aging also induces a decrease in muscle function. Recent studies indicate that caloric restriction and physical exercise suppress the decrease in muscle function though the maintaining quality of mitochondria. This review provides the current understanding of the influence of caloric restriction and exercise on mitochondrial quality control in skeletal muscle.

乳癌集団検診の二次検診において,コンタクトサーモグラフィーを,マンモグラフィー,エコーグラフィーと共に補助診断法として用い,その有用性,限界について検討を行なった.使用したサーモブレートは,イタリアFinpat社製 “Breast Thermo Detector” であり今回は特に,腫瘤部の温度の高低に注目して診断した.その結果,乳癌症例の正診率は全体で68%, T>2cmでは86%, T〓2cmでは38%であった.病理組織学的には,線維腺腫,乳腺のう胞腫との鑑別は容易であったが,乳腺症との鑑別は難しかった.したがって,コンタクトサーモグラフィーは乳癌の精密検査法としての利用価値は低いとおもわれた.しかし,触診の補助診断法として用いることにより,手軽で安価な検査法としての利用価値があるのではないかと考えられた.

Colour problems of lead mono oxide crystal were studied.<BR>We confirmed at first the range of metal hydroxides to produce lead mono oxide on the reaction with lead salts, and the transformation conditions were investigated for lead mono oxide crystal in the process of the reactions.<BR>Then lead mono oxide crystals thus produced were subjected to<BR>(1) the examination of the relation of colour to temperature, <BR>(2) the microscopic observation, <BR>(3) the X ray analysis of the powder method, <BR>(4) and the emission spectroscopic analysis.<BR>The theoretical and experimental treatment in this paper verifies that the colour difference of lead mono oxide crystal, which is occured from the process of the formation, must be caused from<BR>(1) the difference of the crystal structure, <BR>(2) the difference of the direction of crystal growth, <BR>(3) the adsorption or insertion of other phases, <BR>(4) and the combination of (1), (2) and (3).

We investigated the seasonal correspondence between the fruiting phenology of fleshy-fruited plants and the abundance of frugivorous birds, in a temperate forest, in central Japan. The majority of fleshy fruits ripened in the fall when frugivorous birds were most abundant. This correspondence occurred earlier than in a warm temperate forest, located in southern Japan; these relationships in East Asia coincide with those of the temperate regions of North America and Europe. We also examined whether the abundance of frugivorous birds led to profitable effects for seed dispersal among fleshy-fruited plants. The Brown-eared Bulbul Hypsipetes amaurotis was considered to be an important seed disperser for many fleshy-fruited plants because of its high frequency of occurrence throughout the fruiting season, and its large gape size, which allowed it to swallow all sizes of fruits found at the study site. Although numerous Brown-eared Bulbuls and other frugivorous birds were present in the fall, fruit removal rates in fall-fruiting species were not always higher than in summer-fruiting species. The abundance of frugivorous birds alone could therefore not adequately explain the concentrated fruiting phenology among fleshy-fruited plants.
