Previous studies on e-leadership attempted to understand an open cooperative system and a new integration mechanism. However, prior to analysis, the researchers assumed certain problems in the ICT situation and a certain leader who can solve the problems based on researchers' experiences in a face-to-face situation wherein they have familiarized themselves. This is what I call the self-contained logic of the romance of leadership. I perform analytical procedures based on the original definition of leadership, and investigate a particular case of an online project developing web-applications in this study in order to overcome such methodological limitations. Finally, I find some leadership actions traditionally unnoticed by many leadership researchers who have implicitly assumed the face-to-face situation, and show the dynamic process that drives the leadership actions and the influence of these actions.

Facial micro-expressions are fast and subtle facial motions that are considered as one of the most useful external signs for detecting hidden emotional changes in a person. However, they are not easy to detect and measure as they appear only for a short time, with small muscle contraction in the facial areas where salient features are not available. We propose a new computer vision method for detecting and measuring timing characteristics of facial micro-expressions. The core of this method is based on a descriptor that combines pre-processing masks, histograms and concatenation of spatial-temporal gradient vectors. Presented 3D gradient histogram descriptor is able to detect and measure the timing characteristics of the fast and subtle changes of the facial skin surface. This method is specifically designed for analysis of videos recorded using a hi-speed 200fps camera. Final classification of micro expressions is done by using a k-mean classifier and a voting procedure. The Facial Action Coding System was utilized to annotate the appearance and dynamics of the expressions in our new hi-speed micro-expressions video database. The efficiency of the proposed approach was validated using our new hi-speed video database.

We investigated mitochondrial DNA haplogroups of four Jomon individuals from the Sanganji shell mound in Fukushima, Tohoku district, Japan. Partial nucleotide sequences of the coding and control region of mitochondrial DNA were determined. The success rate of sequencing increased when we analyzed short DNA sequences. We identified haplogroups from all four samples that were analyzed; haplogroup frequencies were 50% (n = 2) for N9b and 50% (n = 2) for M7a2. Haplogroup N9b has been previously observed in high frequencies in the other Tohoku Jomon, Hokkaido Jomon, Okhotsk, and Ainu peoples, whereas its frequency was reported to be low in the Kanto Jomon and the modern mainland Japanese. Sub-haplogroup M7a2 has previously been reported in the Hokkaido Jomon, Okhotsk, and modern Udegey (southern Siberia) peoples, but not in the Kanto Jomon, Ainu, or Ryukyuan peoples. Principal component analysis and phylogenetic network analysis revealed that, based on haplogroup frequencies, the Tohoku Jomon was genetically closer to the Hokkaido Jomon and Udegey people, than to the Kanto Jomon or mainland modern Japanese. The available evidence suggests genetic differences between the Tohoku and Kanto regions in the Jomon period, and greater genetic similarity between the Tohoku Jomon and the other investigated ancient (Hokkaido Jomon, Okhotsk) and modern (Siberian, Udegey in particular) populations. At the same time, the Tohoku and Hokkaido Jomon seem to differ in sub-haplotype representations, suggesting complexity in Jomon population structure and history.

The purpose in this study is to reconsider the relationship between Alberto Giacometti and Georges Bataille. This relationship was first noticed by Rosalind Krauss. In her study, she claimed that Giacometti's work has horizontality, and this responds to Bataille's "Bas Materialisme" which is an idea established in Documents. However, I think her argument is not complete because she undervalued another important character of Giacometti's work. That is violence, which means exactly death. Violence is also an important moment for "Bas Matreialisme" which is intended to collapse the philosophical hierarchy. According to Bataille's later works, this violence is banned ("interdit") in our daily life, but since we are attracted by it, it must be transgressed. Bataille claims the importance of death by showing "sacrifice" in which executor kills living thing or destroys non-living thing. In Giacometti's surrealist work, we can find some motives of murder or destruction. Those works represent the moment before the execution of murder or destruction. This Giacometti's work's special structure causes an impulse to destroy. In other words, it demands that the spectator should play the role of executor of "sacrifice". For example, in Fleur en danger, the spectator may want to cut the string which is pulling the wood bar, and that will cause the white thing ( it may symbolizes flower) to be destructed. The work provokes the spectator to confront the idea of death, both killing and being killed. Viewing Giacometti's work as "sacrifice" can be a false-experience of death.

プログラミング教育において,座学でプログラムの知識を身に付けた学習者が,ソースプログラムを正しく読み取れないことがある.原因として,プログラムが動く仕組み理解できていないので,プログラム処理がわからないと考える.本研究では,プログラム処理がわからない学習者に対して,踊りによるプログラム処理の可視化を行うことで,プログラム処理の理解支援を行う.

本論文は,東日本大震災発生後1ヶ月間における,米国,中国,英国,仏国の代表的な新聞における震災に関する報道の動向を調査した結果を報告するものである.各国につき一紙ずつ代表的な新聞を選定して,震災に関連する記事を網羅的に収集し,それにもとづき,各紙の報道の特徴を整理・比較した.その結果,いずれも,原子力発電に肯定的な国であるにもかかわらず,福島原子力発電所事故に関する報道内容には,国間でかなりの違いがあることが判明した.また,記事の量と内容とを比較した結果,日本とその国の政治的・経済的関係,日本との地理的位置関係,および各国のエネルギー政策が,各紙の報道内容に影響を与えることが明らかとなった.

学生が大学入学前にどのような野生動物関連の知識と体験を有しているか,東京農大生を対象に2002年と2012年にアンケート調査した。野外で見たことのある動物は2002年には鳥類>哺乳類>魚類>爬虫類>両生類の順であったが,2012年には爬虫類,両生類,魚類が大きく減少した。後者は水辺などに行かねば見られない動物であることから,この10年間に若年層の自然に触れる機会が減少していると思われた。野生動物に関する知識や意識における10年間の変化は少なかった。野生動物の目撃場所では,自宅周辺や里山が多く,旅行中の目撃頻度は減少傾向にあった。学生がイメージできる野生動物関連職業の数は少なく,動物園や研究職など一部職種に集中していた。好きな日本産動物の上位は陸生の中・大型哺乳類で占められ,食虫目や翼手目への関心は極めて低かった。好きな世界の動物では動物園で見ることのできるライオン,パンダ,ゾウ,コアラ,トラなどの大型獣が上位であった。野生動物に関する情報源としては特定のテレビ番組が大きな役割を果たしており,本では動物図鑑がよく利用されていた。動物系学科で学ぶ学生(東京農業大学)と非動物系の学生(国際基督教大学)を比較すると,野生動物教育の経験を除いて,アンケート結果は類似しており,入学前における野生動物経験の多寡は大学選択に影響していなかった。動物系の異なる研究室(野生動物学と動物介在療法)に所属する学生の野生動物経験を比較したところ,回答傾向は概ね類似したが,後者では鳥類や獣害に対する関心が若干低かった。

Active oxygen has been implicated in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease (PD); therefore, antioxidants have attracted attention as a potential way to prevent this disease. Squalene, a natural triterpene and an intermediate in the biosynthesis of cholesterol, is known to have active oxygen scavenging activities. Squalane, synthesized by complete hydrogenation of squalene, does not have active oxygen scavenging activities. We examined the effects of oral administration of squalene or squalane on a PD mouse model, which was developed by intracerebroventricular injection of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA). Squalene administration 7 days before and 7 days after one 6-OHDA injection prevented a reduction in striatal dopamine (DA) levels, while the same administration of squalane enhanced the levels. Neither squalene nor squalane administration for 7 days changed the levels of catalase, glutathione peroxidase, or superoxide dismutase activities in the striatum. Squalane increased thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, a marker of lipid peroxidation, in the striatum. Both squalane and squalene increased the ratio of linoleic acid/linolenic acid in the striatum. These results suggest that the administration of squalene or squalane induces similar changes in the composition of fatty acids and has no effect on the activities of active oxygen scavenging enzymes in the striatum. However, squalane increases oxidative damage in the striatum and exacerbates the toxicity of 6-OHDA, while squalene prevents it. The effects of squalene or squalane treatment in this model suggest their possible uses and risks in the treatment of PD.
