The purpose of this study is to explain the process of establishment and activities of Hanni-Woman Library, and investigate the meaning of women's reading activities in the 1960's.   By analyzing the miscellany of Hanni-Woman Library, it is demonstrated that the women at that time were alienated from reading activities or other cultural activities because of pressure from their family, especially from their mother-in-law.   Hanni-Woman Library gave them the opportunity to read.   Although the number of library members were reduced because of women's participation in public and prevalence of television, there were some women who continued their reading activities.   Through activities of the Hanni-Woman Library, women became to form a habit of reading and to find the importance of learning together.   For them, reading activities were an essential source of their cultivation in order to decide things for themselves and act on their own judgments and present their thoughts and ideas.

In Japan, the school system is supposed to be centralized and uniformed nationwide, based on the national laws and rules such as the Courses of Study. However, the actual school culture in which students and teachers are experiencing in daily lives is considerably different from region to region. It can be said to have rich diversity in terms of locality and historicity. This paper shows various examples of such local school culture in the aspects of subject teaching, extra-curricular activities, educational environment and student guidance. They include the variety of the class styles, teaching of local historic heroes, physical education, school lunch, athletic festivals, school trips, school ceremonies such as graduation ceremonies, school songs, schoolrooms, schoolyards, school uniforms, and belongings at school, etc. Through this introduction, we can discover that some of them are from Dutch words, probably because of the influence of the national isolation policy (Sakoku) of the Edo Period. We also recognize that some of the school cultures are originated in the style of the army, which were introduced under the policy of Meiji government to enrich the country and strengthen the military power. In addition, we know that regional dialects play a part in forming unique school culture. These regional school cultures are now being homogenized in the information age. Some of the school cultures which were created under the environment of the pre-war era are now inevitably being changed and modernized. Even so, many of them will still continue to take root into each region and it is meaningful to study the history and backgrounds of such school cultures in order to understand the characteristics of Japanese school education.

Tool-using behaviors of animals have been compared with those of early-man and examined the factors which differentiated the human culture from that of animals. Many tool-using behaviors of animals which are mainly found among birds and primates, particularly in chimpanzees, are flexible to environmental change and have local differences. The reason why they are remarkable only among some separated animal taxa are to be examined through their environment, life form, feeding repertoire and technique. Chimpanzees use and make many different kinds of tools, occasionally do more than one kind of tool for a single purpose and are expected to use a tool for making another tool which needs high intelligence and capability. Examination of local differences of tool-using repertoire of chimpanzees and their environment made clear that they maintain techniques through social tradition, which can be called “culture”. However, its elaboration to man-like culture needs further development of the motor function coordinating both hands and communication method by language.

静岡県島田市牧之原地区。元幕臣が中心になって明治期に開拓した茶畑が一面に広がる台地である。その麓には、かつて駿河と遠江の境界だった大井川が流れ、「世界一長い木造歩道橋」としてギネス認定も受けた全長897.4mの蓬莱橋がかかっている。 島田市のゴミ処分場は、そんな市内有数の観光地を見下ろす茶畑のど真ん中にある。

The tropical tropopause layer (TTL) is a transition region between the troposphere and the stratosphere. In this study the vertical extent of the TTL is diagnosed from radiosonde and ozonesonde profiles in the tropics and a climatology of this layer is presented. The radiative balance in the TTL is also characterized. The TTL is locally defined as extending from the level of the lapse rate minimum at 10-12 km to the cold point tropopause (CPT) at 16-17 km. The minimum in lapse rate represents the level of maximum convective impact on upper tropospheric temperatures, which is found to closely correspond to a minimum in ozone. Variations in this level are correlated with convective activity as measured by satellite brightness temperatures and Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR). At the cold point, the TTL height is nearly uniform throughout the tropics, and has a pronounced annual cycle. There are regional variations in the altitude of the lower boundary of the TTL. Interannual variations of the TTL result from changes in the large scale organization of convective activity, such as from the El-Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Over the last 40 years, records indicate an increase (200-400 m) in the height of both the cold point tropopause and the level of minimum lapse rate. To better understand vertical transport in the TTL, the clear sky radiative heating rate is diagnosed using a sophisticated radiative transfer scheme. The level of zero radiative heating occurs roughly 1 km below the CPT, implying that convection needs to loft air 4-5 km above the base of the TTL if the air is to eventually enter the stratosphere.

一八七二(明治五)年、新橋横浜間に日本初の鉄道が開通した。それからさほど時を隔てずに、江戸時代の『遊覧記』『街道記』等の伝統を承けた形で、『鉄道名所案内』『鉄道旅行案内』といった諸書(本稿では〈案内記〉と称す)が次々に刊行され、以後、さまざまに形を変えながら観光案内書の山脈を形成してきた。本稿ではそれら〈案内記〉のうち、鉄道開通直後の一八七〇年代から鉄道国有化直前の一九〇〇年頃までの書冊に記された文学関連の名所(歌枕類)・史蹟などに関する記述について検討した。観光ガイド的な〈案内記〉の記述中で伝統的文学表現─その中に最後の光芒のように漢詩への回帰も出現するのだが─と土地との関わりがどのように記述され、該地の観光地としての魅力宣揚にどのように「活用」されたか、またその「活用」法が主要幹線の整備や旅行者の量的・質的変化といった時代の推移とともにどのように変遷したかを時系列的に辿った。本稿では〈旅行案内〉、〈名所案内〉といった旅行案内書類(以下〈案内書〉)と文学──〈案内書〉に引用される詩歌を中心に検討するに過ぎないが──との関係、言い換えれば、旅行業・観光産業によって文学形象・文学的伝統が、どのように利用及び消費、消尽されてきたかの一端を確かめるために、鉄道開通直後から一九〇〇年頃までに刊行されたものを対象とする。とは言え、検討のために〈案内書〉としてここで取り上げた諸作を厳密な外延で規定することは難しく、対象の選択にはかなり不明確なところがあることを断っておきたい。また、日本全国各地の歌枕、名所・旧蹟と詩歌との関係等を偏りなく取り上げることは不可能で、筆者の関心が傾く東北地方の記述がやや多めになっていることをも断っておく。

本稿では、誤情報・虚偽情報の打ち消し報道を行うに際して、マスメディアとして留意すべき事柄をピックアップした。留意点は以下の通り。■打ち消し報道は誤情報・虚偽情報と比べ「新奇性」=「ニュース性」が弱いので拡散力が弱いと考えられる。従って、打ち消し報道は繰り返し行う必要がある。 ■打ち消し報道を行うタイミングが早すぎると、誤情報・虚偽情報をまだ知らない人にまで伝え、新奇性の強い誤情報・虚偽情報の中身だけが独り歩きしてしまうおそれがある。 ■誤情報・虚偽情報に惑わされないよう呼びかける打ち消し報道のメッセージは、受け手の心理的抵抗や反発を招かないような工夫が必要である。 ■流言の中には事実と間違いが混然としたものも多い。それらを「デマ」という言葉で一括りにして表現すると、すべてを事実無根、ウソと決めつけてしまうことになりかねない。 ■偽動画はAIのマシンラーニング(機械学習)の手法を悪用して、ますます巧妙化するおそれがあり、アメリカではメディアや大学などが偽動画を見分ける技術の研究を行っている。日本国内でも精巧な偽動画が出回る可能性がある。 ■テレビやラジオで打ち消し報道を見聞きしても、聞き逃しや聞き間違い、早合点をしてしまうこともある。放送画面からネット上などの打ち消し情報(活字・図表)に随時アクセスできれば便利である。
