We developed a beverage that forms a gel containing gas bubbles in the stomach and induces satiety. In a preliminary experiment, we confirmed that when a carbonated beverage containing any one of three types of ionic polysaccharides was mixed with artificial gastric juice, it resulted in the formation of a gel containing gas bubbles. Among the three types of polysaccharides referenced above, low methoxyl pectin (LM pectin) was identified as being the optimal for preparation of the test beverage in this study. Both static evaluation using a vessel and dynamic evaluation using the Gastric Digestion Simulator (GDS) revealed that the volume of the bubble-containing gel remained relatively stable with time. Presence of the bubble-containing gel in the stomach following consumption of the carbonated beverage containing LM pectin was confirmed in a clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) study. Consumption of this test beverage resulted in a greater increase of the intragastric volume than consumption of the same amount of water. Moreover, in the satiety questionnaire, the subjects reported a higher degree of satiety following consumption of the beverage than following consumption of an equal amount of water. These results indicate that when this test beverage, a carbonated beverage containing LM pectin that forms a bubble-containing gel in the stomach, is consumed, the stomach becomes distended, inducing a feeling of satiety.

In this article I have translated and annotated "The Way to Decorate the Drum with the Trophy of War (Inzira yo kwambik ingoma)," a section of the esoteric royal ritual Code, the Ubwiru, of Rwanda. In addition, I have compared the customs of nearby kingdoms of the Great Lakes Region of Africa focusing on the royal drums and mutilation of the bodies of the dead. From this comparison I have discussed that although mutilation of the bodies of dead enemy and placing fetishes on royal drums are found in the different parts of the region, the systematization of the rituals to decorate the royal drum by hanging the enemy king's testicles was found only in Rwanda. Furthermore, I have outlined the history of Rwanda's expeditions to expand the territory and surveyed especially on abahinza (the native chiefs). From this I conclude that "The Way to Decorate the Drum with the Trophy of War" strongly reflects the increase of the military expeditions of the Kigeri IV Rwabugiri in the latter half of the 19th century, especially the Rwandanization of the abahinza's territory in the western and northern regions of the kingdom.本稿はルワンダの王朝秘典ubwiruの1つ「太鼓に戦利品を飾る道」に訳・注をつけた。そしてそれを補うために、まず、王権太鼓と死体毀損に注目しながら大湖地方の諸王国の習俗を比較した。その結果、敵の死体の毀損、王権太鼓への呪物の添付といった個々の要素は大湖地方のあちこちに見られるが、敵王の睾丸で飾りを作って王権太鼓に吊す儀式を制度化した国はルワンダ以外にはなかったことが明らかになった。さらに、ルワンダの対外拡張戦争を概観したうえでヒンザ(土着首長)について考察した。その結果、「太鼓に戦利品を飾る道」は19世紀後半のKigeri IV Rwabugiriの軍事行動の増加、とりわけ西部や北部のヒンザの領域のルワンダ化を色濃く反映していると結論した。

少年鑑別所に入所中の221名の男子少年を対象に, 最近一緒にいる友人一人を思い浮かべさせ, その交友関係について調査した。まず, 大半の少年が, その交友について, 親をはじめとする周囲が認めており, 今後もその関係を断つつもりがないことが示された。その友人と一緒にいる理由については,「信頼・親和」,「被受容・被理解」,「不快回避」の3因子が抽出され, その友人との実際の付き合い方については, 「内面共有」,「防衛」,「享楽」,「独立」の4因子が抽出された。これらの回答結果からは, その交友関係が, うわべを取り繕ったその時その場限りのものではないことが示された。また, これらの因子間の関係を分析したところ, 「内面共有」には「被受容・被理解」及び「信頼・親和」が,「独立」には「信頼・親和」及び「不快回避」が影響を及ぼしていることが明らかにされた。加えて, それぞれの因子に, 非行少年自身の年齢, 非行歴, 加えて, 友人の非行歴がいかに影響を及ぼしているかについても検討した。

コンピュータゲームにおけるゲームプレイにおいて,定跡データベースを持つことは,対戦の多様性の確保,序盤の貧弱な評価関数の補完,思考時間の節約に役立つことが分かっているが,対戦実験によって強さを評価する以外の評価法がこれまで提案されていなかった.本稿では,データ構造が公開されている定跡データベースを擬似的に対戦させ,出現する局面の確率分布を求めることにより,多様性,強さなどの評価を行う手法を提案する.提案する手法をオープンソースの将棋プログラムに適用することにより,興味深い結果を得た.

近年,再び,人工知能(Artificial Intelligence, AI)に注目が集まり,AIを搭載したロボットや今までにない新しい製品(AI家電などと呼ばれたりもしている)が登場している.それらのロボットや製品の多くは,単に「賢い機械」というだけでなく,人間との「コミュニケーション」を重視した製品であるという点に大きな特徴がある.具体的には,音声対話により情報・サービス提供を実現するスマートスピーカーやAIプログラム,ペットロボットや介護・みまもりロボット,受付・案内・警備のためのロボット等が挙げられる.そのような背景を踏まえて本特集では,現在,家庭や社会の身近なところで,今までにない形で使われ活躍している「コミュニケーションする機械」としてのロボットやAIに焦点を当てた.

甲状腺吸引細胞診の最も一般的な合併症である頸部腫脹には2つの機序が知られている. 1つは穿刺部からの出血による血腫形成 (甲状腺内と甲状腺外), もう1つは穿刺刺激に反応した腺内血管の拡張によるびまん性甲状腺腫脹である. 後者は過去の報告で acute and frightening swelling of thyroid と表現される重要な合併症であるが, 適当な名称がないため本文では便宜上 dTSaFNA (diffuse thyroid swelling after fine needle aspiration) と称した. われわれは甲状腺の吸引細胞診後の血腫形成を1例と dTSaFNA を2例経験した.
