Highly convergent syntheses of substituted carbazoles are most conveniently achieved using organometallic chemistry. Construction of the carbazole framework via the iron-mediated route proceeds by a sequence of C–C and C–N bond formation. In the highly efficient palladium-catalyzed route the C–N bond is formed first followed by generation of the C–C bond. This article highlights some recent developments and applications to the total synthesis of biologically active carbazole alkaloids.

It has been reported that treatment with a pharmacological dose (45 mg/d) of menaquinone-4 (MK-4) prevents bone loss in postmenopausal women. However, it is not known whether supplementation with low dose MK-4 has beneficial effects on bone metabolism in healthy women. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the supplementation of 1.5 mg/d MK-4 for 4 wk on bone and lipid metabolism in healthy postmenopausal Japanese women. The study was performed as a randomized double blind placebo-controlled trial. The participants aged 53-65 y were randomly assigned to 2 groups and supplemented with 1.5 mg/d of MK-4 or a placebo for 4 wk (n=20 for each group). The most marked effects of MK-4 intake were observed on serum osteocalcin (OC) concentrations. Serum undercarboxylated OC (ucOC) concentration decreased, and the γ-carboxylated OC (GlaOC) and GlaOC/GlaOC+ucOC ratio that indicates the degree of OC γ-carboxylation increased significantly at 2 and 4 wk compared with that at baseline in the MK-4 group. The serum ucOC and GlaOC concentrations in the MK-4 group were significantly different from those in the placebo group at 2 wk. These results suggest that supplementation with 1.5 mg/d MK-4 accelerated the degree of OC γ-carboxylation. The concentrations of serum lipids and other indices were not different between the groups at either intervention period. Thus, the additional intake of MK-4 might be beneficial in the maintenance of bone health in postmenopausal Japanese women.

目的 児童虐待件数は毎年増加しており,虐待の予防,早期発見,早期支援に関し,実態に基づく適切かつ具体的な取り組みが求められる。本研究の目的は,保育園の園長および保育士が「虐待疑い」と評価し,市と情報交換しながら見守りをしている子どもの養育者の育児不安および育児環境と虐待との関連を明らかにし,虐待の予防,早期発見・早期支援の一助とすることである。方法 A 市の全公立保育園に在園する子どもの全養育者1,801人に育児支援質問紙および育児環境指標(ICCE)への記入を依頼した。育児支援質問紙は養育者の育児困難感や不安・抑うつ傾向を,育児環境指標は子どもと環境とのかかわりの質や頻度などを測定する。専門職が「虐待疑い」と評価した子どもの養育者を「虐待群」,それ以外を「非虐待群」とした。育児困難感,不安・抑うつ傾向および育児環境と虐待との関連を検討するため,両質問紙の回答をリスク群,非リスク群の 2 群に分類し,各リスク項目の有無の独立性について,Fisher の正確検定により検定した。さらに虐待と有意に関連する要因を他の項目の影響を互いに調整した上で検討するため,「虐待」を目的変数,育児不安と養育環境で有意な関連のみられた項目を説明変数,性別と年齢を調整変数とし,多重ロジスティック回帰分析によりオッズ比を算出した。結果 多重ロジスティック回帰分析の結果,「虐待群」は「非虐待群」と比較して,育児不安では,「不安や恐怖感におそわれる」が4.9倍,育児環境では,「保育園以外に子どもの面倒をみてくれる人がいない」が4.7倍であり高い値を示した。調整変数(性別,年齢)では有意な関連はみられなかった。結論 育児困難感や不安・抑うつ傾向および育児環境と虐待との関連より,保育園等の専門職が養育者への具体的かつ活用可能な支援の方策が得られ,虐待の予防,早期発見,早期支援の一助となることが示唆された。

CAST-128 is a block cipher used in a number of products, notably as the default cipher in some versions of GPG and PGP. It has been approved for Canadian government use by the Communications Security Establishment. Haruki Seki et al. found 2-round differential characteristics and they can attack 5-round CAST-128. In this paper, we studied the properties of round functions F1 and F3 in CAST-128, and identified differential characteristics for F1 round function and F3 round function. So we identified a 6-round differential characteristic with probability 2-53 under 2-23.8 of the total key space. Then based on 6-round differential characteristic, we can attack 8-round CAST-128 with key sizes greater than or equal to 72bits and 9-round CAST-128 with key sizes greater than or equal to 104bits. We give the summary of attacks on reduced-round CAST-128 in Table 10.

Thermogravimetric studies on the St. Jean Vianney clay from Quebec, Canada, have indicated four major thermal events. These events are best presented by means of the Derivative Thermogravimetric (DTG) curve which, until now, has been presented primarily as a histogram DTG plot. However, the tangent DTG plot gives greater distinction between thermal events and locates nine thermal events; the original four as well as five sub-events. A comparison of two quickclays, the St. Jean Vianney clay and a Norwegian clay, using the tangent DTG plot shows the complex mineralogical nature of the Canadian quickclay, while the Norwegian clay appears to have a relatively simple mineralogy.

FrameNet,PropBank といった意味タグ付きコーパスの出現とともに,機械学習の枠組みを利用した自動意味役割付与システムが数多く研究されてきた.しかし,これらのコーパスは個々のフレームに固有の意味役割を定義するため,コーパス中に低頻度,或いは未出現の意味役割が数多く存在し,効率的な学習を妨げている.本論文は,意味役割付与における意味役割の汎化問題を取り上げ,既存の汎化指標と新たに提案する指標を役割の分類精度を通して比較し,それぞれの特徴を探求する.また,複数の汎化指標を同時に利用する分類モデルが自動意味役割付与の精度を向上させることを示す.実験では,FrameNet において全体の精度で 19.16% のエラー削減,F1 マクロ平均で 7.42% の向上を,PropBank において全体の精度で 24.07% のエラー削減,未知動詞に対するテストで 26.39% のエラー削減を達成した.

ATP感受性K+チャネル(KATPチャネル)は,細胞内の代謝状態と細胞膜の興奮性を結びつけている内向き整流性K+チャネルである.KATPチャネルは,ABCタンパクファミリーに属するスルフォニルウレア受容体(SUR)と膜2回貫通型のKir6.xからなる,異種八量体(hetero-octamer)構造をとっている.KATPチャネルは,種々のK+チャネル開口薬,阻害薬,あるいは細胞内のヌクレオチドにより,その活性が制御される.これらは全てSURサブユニットに作用点をもっており,SURのサブタイプにより反応が異なる.最近,種々のイオンチャネルやABCトランスポーターの三次元分子構造が明らかにされてきた.これらを基礎として,KATPチャネル制御の構造的機能モデルを我々は提案した.本稿ではこのモデルを中心として種々の薬物やヌクレオチドによるKATPチャネルの活性制御について考察する.

糖尿病患者は非糖尿病患者に比して大腸癌に罹患しやすいかを検討する目的で横断研究を実施した. 対象は, 総合病院町立大淀病院で全大腸内視鏡検査が施行された患者391例 (男性235例, 女性156例, 平均年齢61歳) である. Mantel-Haenszel法で算出したオッズ比から糖尿病と大腸癌合併の関連性について検討した. 大腸癌の合併は, 糖尿病患者57例中17例 (有病率30%) に対し, 非糖尿病患者334例中48例 (有病率14%) であった. 大腸癌有病率についての非糖尿病群に対する糖尿病群のオッズ比は, 2.35 (95%信頼区間: 1.28~4.48) であった. 以上から, 糖尿病患者は, 非糖尿病患者に比して大腸癌に罹患しやすいことが示唆される.

Background: A number of lifestyle factors, including smoking and drinking, are known to be independently associated with all-cause mortality. However, it might be more effective in motivating the public to adopt a healthier lifestyle if the combined effect of several lifestyle factors on all-cause mortality could be demonstrated in a straightforward manner.Methods: We examined the combined effects of 6 healthy lifestyle behaviors on all-cause mortality by estimating life expectancies at 40 and 60 years of age among 62 106 participants in a prospective cohort study with a 14.5-year follow-up. The healthy behaviors selected were current nonsmoking, not heavily drinking, walking 1 hour or more per day, sleeping 6.5 to 7.4 hours per day, eating green leafy vegetables almost daily, and having a BMI between 18.5 to 24.9.Results: At age 40, we found a 10.3-year increase in life expectancy for men and a 8.3-year increase for women who had all 6 healthy behaviors, as compared with those who had only 0 to 2 healthy behaviors. Increases of 9.6 and 8.2 years were observed for men and women, respectively, at age 60 with all 6 healthy behaviors. When comparing currently nonsmoking individuals with 0 to 1 healthy behaviors, the life expectancy of smokers was shorter in both men and women, even if they maintained all 5 other healthy behaviors.Conclusions: Among individuals aged 40 and 60 years, maintaining all 6 healthy lifestyle factors was associated with longer life expectancy. Smokers should be encouraged to quit smoking first and then to maintain or adopt the other 5 lifestyle factors.

The epicentral distribution of aftershocks shows that the source region of the Izu-Oshima-Kinkai Earthquake of January 14, 1978 (origin time: 12h 24m 38.6s, 34°46′N, 139°15′E, depth: 0km), consisted of two areas, i. e., the area in the sea between Izu-Oshima and the Izu-Peninsula, spreading to the west from the epicenter of the main shock, and the one in the Izu-Peninsula, extending to the westnorthwest direction from the east coast of the peninsula.On the other hand, it has been pointed out that the earthquake was a multiple shock, and that the second event took place about 6sec after the occurrence of the main shock (first event). The location of the second event, however, was somewhat undefinitely.The records of the JMA 59-type electromagnetic seismographs were examined for locating the origin of the second event.From the readings of the first arrivals of P-waves, the origin for the second event was estimated as follows:Origin time: 12h 24m 44.5s (5.9sec after the occurrence of the main shock), Location: 34°46′N, 139°00′E (approximately 23km west of the epicenter of thee main shock), Depth: 0km.It appears that the second event occurred at a place linking two source areas mentioned above, when the rupture which started at the origin of the main shock and propagated westwards, deviated its direction of propagation to the westnorthwest.

We performed dental implant treatment following autogenous bone graft from the iliac bone to the sinus floor for a 68-year-old male patient with severe atrophy of the posterior maxilla. After bone grafting, the sinus floor was lifted up 10 mm to 15 mm. On the 14th day after the operation, fracture of the iliac crest occurred accidentally. An avulsion fracture of the anterior superior iliac spin at the lower part of the donor site was diagnosed. We treated the fracture conservatively, and after four weeks, the patient recovered to be able to go up and down the stairs. Four months later, four implants were inserted in the bone grafted area. For patients with severe atrophy of the posterior maxilla, sinus elevation with iliac bone harvesting is considered to be an effective method. However, there are possible complications associated with iliac bone grafting, such as in this case. Therefore, careful management after such an operation is necessary.

Primary human hepatocytes are extensively used to study the potential of drugs to induce cytochrome P450 (CYP). However, the activities of these enzymes decrease rapidly during culture. Previously we reported that in a layered co-culture system with HepG2 and bovine endothelial cells, the expression levels of various CYP genes were significantly increased compared with the monolayer cultured HepG2 cells. Here, we examined the induction of CYP gene expression by an inducer by examining the effect of phenobarbital treatment on CYP gene expression in the co-culture system. In the layered co-cultured HepG2, expression of the CYP2C and CYP3A family genes was induced by phenobarbital treatment. We also detected CYP3A4 enzyme induction using this co-culture system. Moreover, the induction of hepatic drug transporters by phenobarbital was detected. These results suggest that functional regulation of the CYP and transporter gene pathway is retained in these layered co-cultured cells. Thus, this system may serve as a useful model for in vitro pharmacological studies on the coordinated regulation of transport and metabolism.

[目的]下肢荷重力および臀部荷重力を端座位で計測可能な装置を作成し,その測定器から得られる測定値の臨床的意義について検討した。[対象]要介護女性高齢者23名(要介護認定:要支援1~要介護1,平均年齢83.8±8.5歳,平均体重44.0±8.6?)とした。 [方法]下肢荷重力および臀部荷重力測定値と身体機能(座位保持能力,歩行能力,下肢筋力)との関連を,ピアソンの相関係数を用いて分析した。[結果]下肢および臀部荷重力は各身体機能との間に有意な正相関が認められた。また,下肢荷重力と臀部荷重力との間に有意な正相関が認められた。[結語]本測定器は,下肢機能の評価に加え,体幹機能を含めた総合的な身体機能評価としての活用が期待できる。
