This paper presents a method for boosting the performance of the organization name recognition, which is a part of named entity recognition (NER). Although gazetteers (lists of the NEs) have been known as one of the effective features for supervised machine learning approaches on the NER task, the previous methods which have applied the gazetteers to the NER were very simple. The gazetteers have been used just for searching the exact matches between input text and NEs included in them. The proposed method generates regular expression rules from gazetteers, and, with these rules, it can realize a high-coverage searches based on looser matches between input text and NEs. To generate these rules, we focus on the two well-known characteristics of NE expressions; 1) most of NE expressions can be divided into two parts, class-reference part and instance-reference part, 2) for most of NE expressions the class-reference parts are located at the suffix position of them. A pattern mining algorithm runs on the set of NEs in the gazetteers, and some frequent word sequences from which NEs are constructed are found. Then, we employ only word sequences which have the class-reference part at the suffix position as suffix rules. Experimental results showed that our proposed method improved the performance of the organization name recognition, and achieved the 84.58 F-value for evaluation data.

医療における安全・質の向上は, ここ数年世界的に重要なテーマとして認識されつつある. 本研究では, 日本における医療の安全・質向上のための法制度設計の参考とするため, 米国の医療制度に関して, 特に安全・質向上に関する法システムの検討を行った. 国内文献調査及び現地ヒアリング調査を通じて, 政府機関, 病院団体, 質改善機関, 消費者団体など連邦及び州 (ニューヨーク州) レベルで活動する様々な関連機関の安全・質向上活動に関して, システムとしての全体像を把握し, その上で, 日本との比較整理を行い, 日本における今後の制度設計における示唆を得た. 具体的には, 事故報告制度と情報開示からの保護, 医師の資格管理制度, 医療の質評価と情報公開などに関する制度のあり方について焦点を当てた.

The unified atomic mass unit (unit symbol: u) is a non-SI unit of mass, defined as one-twelfth the mass of a single 12C atom in its ground state. [SI: Le Système International d'Unités; The International System of Units] This definition was agreed upon by both the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) in the early 1960s to resolve a longstanding difference between two scales of the atomic mass unit. The term “atomic mass unit” (unit symbol: amu) has been used as a unit of mass defined as one-sixteenth the mass of a single atom 16O [m(16O)=16 amu] in physics and as one-sixteenth the isotope-averaged atomic mass (equivalent to the atomic weight) of oxygen [Ar(O)=16 amu] in chemistry.The unit dalton (unit symbol: Da) is also a non-SI unit of mass defined as “1 Da=1 u,” and is accepted as a unit for use by the SI in the 8th edition of the SI brochure (2006). Therefore, both the unified atomic mass unit and dalton are authorized units for mass of ions and molecules. It is a common mistake to use the deprecated term “atomic mass unit” and the deprecated unit symbol “amu” for the unit of mass defined as one-twelfth the mass of single atom 12C. The unit symbol “mmu,” meaning a millimass unit, is also an appropriate unit in SI. Instead of “mmu,” “mDa” or and “10-3 u” should be used.

近時,Googleは,従来の検索エンジンによるサービスのほかに,Googleブック検索やGoogleストリートビューなどの新しいサービスを提供し,社会的にも大きな影響を与え始めている。しかし,これらの新サービスには法的に未解決の部分も多い。本稿では,近時のGoogleのサービスの最新動向とともに,過去の重要判例を交えながら,これら検索サービスに関連する法的問題を整理し,今後の潜在的な法律上の問題を考えてみたい。

Taiheiyo Cement's Garo Quarry, located in Kamiiso Town just west of Hakodate City in Hakkaido, is a historic quarry opened in 1892 to supply limestone for cement. There are no houses in the surrounding area. The closest residence is more than four kilometers away, and quarrying is carried out on a comparatively large scale under these blessed conditions. Within this enviironment, quarrying operations, carried out using the world's largest-class wheel loader and other large-scale heavy equipment, rank domestically among the top class in production efficiency. Further, careful consideration is given to protecting the surrounding environment and measures are taken to preserve the scenic view from Hakodate, a sightseeing area, and to prevent the generation of pollution from quarrying operations.As the magnesium oxide (MgO) content varies widely in the limestone deposits distributed throughout the quarry and there are frequent intrusions of clay, quality control is extremely difficult. Given these conditions, a quality control system has been introduced and operations are carried our under very strict quality control.In this paper, we will introduce the situation of open-pit quarrying operations at Garo Quarry.

We evaluated the allergen inactivating effect of colloidal silica by performing enzyme-liked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) whose wells were coated with 150 ng/mL of Japanese cedar pollen allergen (Cry j 1) or mite allergen (Der f 2). The allergens were almost 100% inactivated by 100 μg/mL of colloidal silica having a particle size 5 nm, and the inactivating effect was increased by aluminum binding to the surface of the colloidal silica. The results show that colloidal silica is a promising material for allergen inactivation. Since colloidal silica forms an insoluble nondispersive solid when dried, it is expected that airborne allergens can be reduced by binding them to colloidal silica.

We study how initial network structure affects the evolution of cooperation in a spatial prisoner's dilemma game. The network structure is characterized by various statistical properties. In those properties, we focus on the variance of degree distribution, and inquire how it affects the evolution of cooperation. Some interactions between the variance of degree distribution and other statistical properties such as degree correlation and cluster coefficient are investigated. Moreover we compare results of static networks with those of dynamical networks generated in a process of replacing links by natural selection. It is found that a scale-free network does not always promote the evolution of cooperation, and there exists an appropriate value of the variance, at which the cooperation progresses strongly. In addition, we find that the effects of degree correlation and cluster coefficient for the evolution of cooperation vary with different variances of degree distribution.

Inertial filter, which classifies nanoparticles by inertial filtration, has been developed by Otani et al. (Aerosol and Air Quality Research, 7, 343-352 (2007) ) . The present work is aimed at formulating the fundamental design rules for the inertial filters with an appropriate cutoff size at a low pressure drop. We numerically calculated the classification performance for nanoparticles and compared the results with the experimental data obtained with TEM grids which has rigid and uniform structure as a model filter. As a result, thorough the theoretical calculation and experiments, (1) the collection efficiency of inertial filter can be successfully predicted by the conventional filtration theory based on the single fiber collection efficiency. (2) A filter with a finer fiber diameter can achieve smaller cutoff size at a lower pressure drop, however, the theoretical calculation suggested (3) an inertial filter consisting of fibers smaller than 14 μm cannot suppress the diffusional collection of nanoparticles with the diameter of 20 nm even at a filtration velocity of 30 m/s.

オピオイド系の分子メカニズムの研究は,遺伝子ノックアウト動物モデルを利用することにより,作動薬,拮抗薬などを用いるだけでは為し得ない解析が可能となった.遺伝子ノックアウトマウス作製は,分子遺伝学,細胞培養,発生工学の実験手技の集大成であり,長期にわたる労働集約的な実験作業を要するプロジェクトである.ターゲティングベクター作製のためのゲノムDNAの入手から始まり,ES細胞への遺伝子導入,キメラマウス作製の後に,はじめてノックアウトマウスを得ることができる.また,表現型を行動学的,解剖学的,生化学的に解析する際に,ノックアウトマウスであるが故の留意点もある.本稿では,新規のみならず既知のノックアウトマウスの解析を予定されている研究者も対象に,概略的知識および成功を左右するいくつかのコツを,筆者らの経験をもとに紹介する.

高齢者の頭頸部癌治療では副作用が少なく,高い安全性と根治性が要求される。われわれは高齢者口腔癌に対し,ドセタキセル(TXT),シスプラチン(CDDP),ペプロマイシン(PEP),5-FUによるTCPF動注化学療法を行い,その安全性と有効性について検討した。2002年3月から2005年5月までTCPF動注化学療法を行った75歳以上の扁平上皮癌症例10例を対象とした。年齢は75~84歳,平均80歳。部位は舌口腔底8例,頬粘膜1例,上顎歯肉1例。全症例に浅側頭動脈か後頭動脈経由で動注用カテーテルを留置し,TCPF動注化学療法を行い,7例に生検切除を,2例に根治的切除を行った。原発部位に対する効果はCR率80%(8/10),PR率20%(2/10),pathological CR率67%(6/9)であった。副作用は,脳血管障害はなく,動注側の粘膜炎と脱毛が主であり,血液毒性など全身的な副作用はほとんど認めなかった。本療法の有効性と安全性は高く,ハイリスクの高齢者にも根治的治療として適応し得ると考えられた。
